It's time for a full scale congressional investigation
Congress.org ^ | September 9, 2006

Jobs are being eliminated by special interest activist organizations

Now that air quality test results by the likes of the American Cancer Society are proving that the secondhand smoke kills argument is completely fabricated.

http://cleanairquality.blogspot.com/2004/04/american-cancer-society-test-results.html

It's time for lawmakers to investigate why this fallacy has permeated the local government debate.....and specifically who is funding and spreading that false information.

http://www.rwjf.org/about/founder.jhtml

The "who" is in large part the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. And since RWJF is an affiliate of the Johnson & Johnson Company (the manufacturer of competing nicotine product interests Nicoderm & Nicoderm CQ), it stands to reason that the role of RWJF's funding of smoking ban efforts is for their own financial benefit.....not for health concerns as some would have you believe.

http://www.alza.com/alza/tl_1991
http://www.alza.com/alza/tl_2001

At the very least, because of the appearance of impropriety, and the fact that tens of thousands of people in the hospitality and ventilation industries are being negatively impacted by these special interest funded smoking bans;

http://www.smokersclubinc.com/banloss3.htm

congressional hearings at the state and federal levels should convene immediately before any future consideration of smoking bans at any level (city, county, state, or federal).

And should it be discovered that there is indeed a conflict of interest, the culpable party (RWJF) should be forced to compensate those of us negatively affected by the false data which resulted in arbitrary and unnecessary smoking ban laws.

Clearing the Air encourages all hospitality associations, ventilation / filtration manufacturers, gaming associations, and even the tobacco manufacturers nationwide to demand such an investigation......one powerful voice in unison, cannot go ignored.

"It's time for a full scale congressional investigation"

I agree with that, but I don't think the gov is going to want to wean itself off the tobacco teat just yet.

You may be right, but I'll bet there are literally hundreds of studies on second hand smoke if you knew where to look for them. It's always a possibility that J&J was trying to enhance business. It's also a possibility that they simply ran a flawed study. Take a look at the left. Studies or polls or group opinions on stuff are hard to get right. They screw their polls up every two years, which are supposedly run using the lastest methods.

Oh we know where to look alright!

And how about the American Cancer Society making a "mistake" on their 53,000 deaths from smoking and second hand smoke?  Swept under the rug, right?  You probably can't find it today, but WE have it!

And the ORNL Research Labs in Tennessee did extensive research on second hand smoke, and found it to be virtually harmless.

And the judge who did his own 5 year research on second hand smoke............he threw it out of court!

"Or is that just too much to ask?"

It must be. You may as well ask for an arm and a leg, too.

Until we bend to threir will, there will be no compromise.

They simply refuse to offer one.

Addiction Prevention & Treatment
Building Human Capital
Childhood Obesity
Disparities
Health Insurance Coverage
Nursing
Pioneer
Public Health
Quality Health Care
*TOBACCO USE AND EXPOSURE*
Vulnerable Populations

(All of the above has potential big bucks in each catagory for Big Pharm and the RWJF!)

Talk about speaking out of both sides of their mouths....

It appears there are contradictions aplenty here.

Oh yes. Digging beneath all the layers, the truth is starting to come out.  We might not have the money that the RWJF has, but by golly, we have the truth!

Yep. Petty tyranny is a slippery slope, ain't it? At the bottom of the slope is utter dependence and ignorance. Let the anile amongst us take care of it.

I don't care if there is scientific proof that tobacco smoke is as healthy as mother's milk. It irritates my lungs, nose and eyes.

Last I checked, the cure for irritation of the lungs, nose and eyes is not the liberally forced instigation of illegal laws through fraud and deceit.

Government needs reasons to continue economically tapping it's partners (tobacco companies) with ongoing lawsuits and second hand smoke is part of the overall game plan.A number of years ago they employed the same tactic in the refrigeration industry declaring war on freon and its effect on the ozone,a declaration that has since been challenged by science, but afforded an opportunity to "sue" violaters. No question the word "extortion" has been clearly defined by our government of bureaucrats !!!

It irritates my lungs, nose and eyes.

That's your problem. Own it and deal with it. The particulates from the manufacture of items you use and demand irritates my lungs, nose and eyes.

For a smoker to inflict it on us unwillingly is unspeakably rude.

To inflict your intestinal gas on others is likewise rude. And, yes, it is a choice; you can hold it and go elsewhere.

Right. The world and its activities and events are all about you.

and the facts show he is telling a bold faced lie to the American public.

mwernimont, it seems antiscumbag seems to have a problem with not having the "hyphen" between the words bold and faced.

I told him if that's all that he can criticize us on, then we must be doing good!

If it's on the Net, it's open to the public.  And if people don't research and look things up, then there are those of us who will do it for you.

How's that?
