Models to be banned for being too thin

Spain's main fashion show is to turn away models if they are too thin, striking a blow for fuller-figured women.
Organisers of the Pasarela Cibeles have devised a formula to calculate the models' body mass index and 30 per cent of them are expected to fail, said the Association of Fashion Designers of Spain.
The move is part of a voluntary agreement with the Madrid regional government, said designer Jesus del Pozo. The association said it wanted models to project "an image of beauty and health" and shun a gaunt, emaciated look at the show, which begins on Sep 18.
Last year's show drew protests from medical associations because some models were bone-thin. This year, organisers have been pressed to hire fleshier women as role models.

It has been my understanding that fashion designers dress their models as they would like their boyfriends to dress.

Now that they have solved the crisis of skinny models, does that mean that soon the auto makers will start making their midsize cars so that I can actually see out the front window?

I have a good friend who is borderline ( she says she's not) anorexic. We are now post-menopausal age and she has osteopenia. I suspect that this will be an epidemic in the model and the Hollywood actress worlds. I have already seen Sally Field advertising for a medication for osteoporosis.

I'm not into the fashion scene, so I don't really know what they are dealing with. I do know that a lot of women get pretty upset about the young girls looking so thin. The probl is, young people are naturally thin.
If we're talking about skin and bones, one or more examples on this thread (if for real), there should be some sort of help made available for these women.
If we're simply talking about women in their late teens to late twenties that still have a youthful figure, then the fashion police should back off.
I couldn't gain weight no matter how much I ate when in my late teens to my early thirties. Everyone said I should put on weight. Hey, that was just me. I ate more than most and still looked thin.
I remain amazed at how much time some folks seem to have to look for new ways to "fix" everyone else's problem.

Thin models are now being considered too bourgeoisie. The overweight proletariat are better suited for the job. Seventy-five years ago it was the the other way around. Back then the poor were seriously underweight.

Hell at 68 she looks better than these skinny emaciated things that pass for beauty today.

Then at 30 had a severely diseased thyroid totally removed and well... now eating is such a freedom now.

OK, the ultra skinny is gross, and so is Kirsty (not as gross, though). How's this? She's a size 12, fat by American standards:

It's definitely a problem, I've seen comments in other forums where people (mostly guys) have called Alicia Silverstone a "BBW".
We've lost our way, when it comes to the definition of "beautiful" and "hot". Women should have HIPS, not be built like a 13 year old boy (with d-cup implants).

When I look at some of the old time stars, not Sophia Loren mind you, they do look a little hefty. Loren had long legs, nice hips and a large chest. This came together to make her look a but heavy, but I don't think she was. She was quite attractive and had two of the most beautiful eyes.
She did age with grace. I saw her a few years back and she was still a very attractive woman.
