WASHINGTON - In the first debate of the Pennsylvania Senate race yesterday, Republican U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum defended the invasion of Iraq as a war of necessity, while Democrat Bob Casey Jr. argued that he would hold the Bush administration more accountable but was "not ready to abandon this mission."
Debating in NBC's Meet the Press
Irq irks me.
srry
I'm surprised they weren't talking about Ira.
LOL.
You can tell Santorum kicked Casey's butt in this debate. If it had even been a draw the Inquirer would have been crowing about a great victory for Casey. Casey barely was even able to look up from his script during the debate. He is a moron.
Pat, I'd like to buy an 'A'.
Keep clam, it's not that series.
Irq ??
interrupt request (IRQ)
I Remember Quaaludes
;-)
I think Santorum and the Republican Senatorial committee missed a great opportunity to highlight the difference with the Democrats on SDI, in the light of the successful interceptor test last week. This wouldn't even be on the table in regard to the N. Korea and Iran threats except for the Republican strategic vision and leadership of the past 25 years. Use the defense to go on the offense, the old Steel Curtain way.
That's it? That's what they debated? Not runaway spending? Not illegal immigration? Not cutting the Federal budget? Not reforming SS? Not making tax cuts permanent?
They debated about a pill? What losers?
LOL............ I wish I had heard that debate.
although I faked everybody out in the headline, Iraq was most of it, second topic privatization of Social Security (I didn't see the show either, but read the transcript)
I wish I'd herd it two.
Gotta get out of here............ I'm getting the grill ready for some great dogs.
Okay. I see it now. I should have known better. It's the author of the article that blew right over the real issues but chose to highlight the issues that would create the most animosity.
I thought Santorum talked way to much and way to fast which resulted in not getting most points across. (you asked)
He appeared either desparate, nervous, agitated or all the above.
The labor day holiday means I don't have to work the primary job, so can go make some extra money with the secondary job.
Folks I contact today won't have a good holiday.
for once, with Casey, the abortion issue actually works against him with the Democratic base.
bill collector?
Process server.
so you're celebrating Hard Labor Day?
I wonder how many democrats Casey would and will hold responsible for their actions? Or do democrats need to be hel accountable?
"Keep clam, it's not that series."
May not be series but definitley Hugh!!!! :)
I drop vowels, not consonants, and yes I am hld accontabl
Sorry, They have all been sold to the Canadians.
Very good. lol.
MR. RUSSERT: The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette had this editorial: Five Santorum children have been home-schooled at their house in Leesburg, Virginia, through the Pennsylvania Cyber Charter School, an education paid for by the Penn Hills district to the tune of $38,000 a year, until it became apparent that they dont live in Penn Hills. They go on. The [Pittsburgh Post-Gazette] sent a letter to Rick Santorum at his home address, at least the one that he claims. Back from Penn Hills came the letter with a sticker from the U.S. Postal Service checked as Not Deliverable As AddressedUnable To Forward.
And what people point to, and particularly the media in the western part of the state, is in 1990 when you ran for the House, you ran against the incumbent Doug Walgren, and ran this commercial repeatedly. Lets watch.
(Videotape, 1990 Santorum campaign ad):
AD ANNOUNCER: Theres something strange about this house. It belongs to our congressman, Doug Walgren. Whats so strange? Instead of living in his own congressional district, Congressman Walgren lives in this house, located in the wealthiest area of Virginia.
(End of videotape)
MR. RUSSERT: And now the State Education Department, state taxpayers are going to have tohave agreed to give the Penn Hills school district $55,000 to compensate for your childrens tuition while they were in Virginia taking a cyber course. And based on that commercial...
SEN. SANTORUM: Yeah.
MR. RUSSERT: ...isnt that rather hypocritical of you?
End excerpt.....
That leaves a mark!!!!!!
I didn't read the details of the resolution of this issue, but I think late last week it was resolved by the state agreeing to pay the district (note Dem gov Rendell likes Santorum, for some reason, maybe seniority in Senate?) The school issue has been widely known in PA, so I doubt TR saying this has much impact where it counts, namely in that state.
They debated about a pill? What losers?
Yes, and you can thank Tim Russert for that. He asked the questions and he was damn sure not going to ask anything that would have favored Santorum. Although Santorum did get in a small lick on Social Security, and was able to mention his bill that would guarantee benefits to all current retirees.
Say Hi to my ex.
These candidates in a debate never excuse themselves for interrupting the other guy, they just cut in...
When ever big media reports... "Both candidates scored points, but neither seemed to emerge with a clear victory."
...you know that the conservative won.
Yoi .... ???
Ned Lamont using same line about Soc. Sec. not in crisis, "just raise the top earnings that payroll tax applied against." In other words, forgeddaboutit.
Santorum won the debate easily. Casey looked foolish while Senator Santorum showed that he is a leader and experienced legislator. Plus, Santorum was right in what he was saying.
Labor Day weekend Sunday date indicates neither side was willing to take chances. Too early to throw haymakers?
I still say Santorum missed a golden opportunity to really put a hurt on Casey AND Russert (see #13)
Most congressmen don't have this problem because they make their wives and kids live back home in their states and only see them on weekends.
Rick believes in family, and wanted his family close to him while he was at work.
What was wrong was his attacking his opponent for that back in 1990 (unless of course his opponent didn't have a family).
It's unfortunate that the federal government has taken over so much of our lives that our representatives have to stay in Washington so much. Oddly, the democrats complain that they aren't there often ENOUGH.
It was a debate that lasted the entire program (1 hour). There were lots of topics, not just the drug. Santorum won.
The left doesn't want us to have better weapons, because we're the danger. That's half-way to Julius and Ethel Rosenberg giving H-bomb secrets to the Reds. See:http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2006/08/our_covert_enemies.html
Another outstanding article by Barone. I'm going to post it as a thread.
