"I'd like more than your opinion on that before I agree. Data would be nice."

Your opinion is that the data is false. Opinions are nice.

"But my main point is that, this boy is tragically dead, and people want to blame someone, so if you are on this site, you blame the environuts, on other sites, they blame Bush for everything."

Yes this boys death is a tragedy and if it happened to mine it would be devastating. I'm not blaming the environuts so please be careful with your assumptions.

I'm blaming the people that banned a chemical using false data. Millions of people have died due to diseases DDT did an excellent job of controlling (by killing bugs).

DDT doesn't kill everything and it doesn't make egg shells thin any more than other commonly used chemicals.

Where do you stand on the DDT ban?

Continue the ban, or bring it back?

DDT doesn't kill everything

Straw-man argument

and it doesn't make egg shells thin any more than other commonly used chemicals.

Data please. Also usage rates, if a "commonly used chemical" that causes it is used sparingly, and DDT usage is widespread, is your comment useful as a comparative device?

Huh, you are the one that made the statement that it did kill everything.

"Data please. Also usage rates, if a "commonly used chemical" that causes it is used sparingly, and DDT usage is widespread, is your comment useful as a comparative device?"

I'd rather not have this inane discussion on a thread about a young boy who died. Start a new thread and provide proof that DDT is the evil chemical you seem to believe it is.

The insecticide used is ineffective, and DDT use would have prevented this death?

Yes.

DDT Risk Assessments

There is a tremendous amount of info out there that supports the finding that DDT is the best way to control mosquitoes and the diseases they spread. Millions of humans die needlessly because people remain ignorant. Educate yourself.

My stance is that those are not necessarily the only choices even if you only presented those two.

I don't have enough data to make such a call.

Just as I thought.

You thought I should have a stance without adequeate information?

Oh, nevermind, I understand now, you have a stance without adequate info so you thought everyone should.

You were incorrect.

There are better alternatives to DDT, but they're expensive, and usually only affordable by western governments. My own city sprays with some modern chemical in the spring. It's not cheap, but I haven't been bitten by a mosquito in my own city in several years and West Nile is non-existent. For other nations, DDT is the next best thing. Cheap and effective.

Hard to educate myself on the question with that article since it does not address the topic.

There is a tremendous amount of info out there that supports the finding that DDT is the best way to control mosquitoes and the diseases they spread.

And none that supports the opposite finding?

Educate yourself.

Until you produce some hard data that shows that currently used insecticides are inferior, the assumption must remain that you are ignorant as well.

If you can, I would be delighted to assess it and possibly agree with the finding.

The tragedy was in a politically motivated banning of the best defense against dreaded diseases at the time. I'd be interested in knowing if that remains true decades later. Scientifically, not emotionally.

If you have data which shows that science has stood still and DDT remains the best chemical for the job, I would love to see it.

I have NEVER asserted that it is or is not.

Not at all.

There is a wealth of information out there.

By "Just as I thouht" I meant I was talking to someone who was remaining willfully ignorant.

The best part are the cautions by you to others to be careful not to voice an opinion that is different than yours..

And yes, we now all know your position on this issue.

There are better alternatives to DDT,

ARE YOU INSANE???? DON'T YOU KNOW YOU JUST COMMITTED A HUGE OFFENCE AGAINST CONSERVATIVES????

< /KIDDING>

but they're expensive, and usually only affordable by western governments.

That is a significant problem to be overcome. I hope someone is working on it.

My own city sprays with some modern chemical in the spring. It's not cheap, but I haven't been bitten by a mosquito in my own city in several years and West Nile is non-existent. For other nations, DDT is the next best thing. Cheap and effective.

Thank you for the input, I appreciate it. The voice of reason is refreshing.

When bereft of rational ideas, lie, lie, lie.

And yes, we now all know your position on this issue.

Really? That mean you can read? No evidence of that so far, but continue on,,,tell me what you claim my position is.

Try to state it as your opinion. It might be goofy, but at least it won't be another lie.

Your position on DDT

I've listened to Mike Rosen KOA Denver smoke guys like you out of your feigned hole of ignorance for years. He's very skilled at it, and would chase you out, on air, in less than 30 seconds.

Outwardly your position is just as you've presented it here, a haughty 'I'm so intelligent I know better than to take a rash, uninformed stance on something important' stance. Very middle of the road 'I could go either way, I just need more information' stance.

However, just like all those 'independent' voters would have a long unbroken record of voting for RATS, you also have a definite position.

If someone could push you, in whatever manner, to voice what you would do if you had to say where you stood; the answer would be a resounding “NO! Keep the ban in place”. That’s your ‘private don’t let anyone know' position on this.

You are delusional.

It must be an odd place to live in your little dream world of paranoid mind reading.

Meanwhile, you have presented no evidence, much less proof, that better alternatives to DDT exist today than did decades ago.

I have stated my position with clarity several times, and I'm not hopeful that your illness can be addressed by further information, but I'll try one last time;

Problems have to be prioritized, on this issue, my priorities are as follows;
1. Immediate preservation of human life.
2. Long term preservation of human life.

I favor rational approaches, not hysterical ones.

Finally, why on earth would my stance on this have any importance whatsoever? Many try to immediately personalize every issue so they can play "gotcha" on people, not ideas and concepts. Such people almost never have anything worthwhile to add, just some childish fun from pointing fingers at people who don't agree with every single line in the "talking points".

Very similar to liberals. To them, everything is the fault of the opposition and all problems are attributable to them. "It's all Bush's fault"

Like liberals who call into the Rosen show, a simple yes/no question has set you to endless dancing.

I'll readily admit that it's a lot more entertaining to listen to a professional like him engage them. Then, a lot of times he is able to force them into a position of either slamming the phone down or answering the question.

I've got to admit I get great joy out of those exchanges. I'm sorry he isn't subing for Rush anymore.

Unlike radio, here on the web you are able to keep dancing.

All over a YES/NO. Which you still haven't answered.

Your inability to understand clear answers is unfortunate, but not unpredictable.
