Inbreeding among polygamists along the Arizona-Utah border is producing a caste of severely retarded and deformed children
Fifteen years ago, a strange-looking child suffering from severe physical maladies and acute retardation was brought into the office of Dr. Theodore Tarby.
The pediatric neurologist regularly deals with a wide range of serious childhood diseases as a doctor with the state-funded Children's Rehabilitative Services in Phoenix. Tarby says he quickly realized he was dealing with a very unusual condition that he could not diagnose.
He prepared urine samples and sent them to the University of Colorado Science Center's Dr. Steve Goodman, a professor of pediatrics who runs a laboratory that detects rare genetic diseases.
Goodman soon made a startling discovery: Tarby's young patient was afflicted with an extremely rare disease called fumarase deficiency.

Tarby and a team of doctors from Barrow Neurological Institute at St. Joseph's Hospital in Phoenix and the University of Arizona College of Medicine in Tucson began researching the disease and soon discovered that fumarase deficiency was occurring in at least two other families living in the same isolated community that practiced an unusual custom.
Nearly everyone in Colorado City, Arizona... was a member of a fundamentalist Mormon sect that practices polygamy and had long encouraged multiple marriages between close relatives.
By the late 1990s, Tarby and his team had discovered fumarase deficiency was occurring in the greatest concentration in the world among the fundamentalist Mormon polygamists of northern Arizona and southern Utah.

Polygamy often seems to have this effect. Supposedly one of the reasons that so many Muslims seem nuts is that they actually are. I recently read that some parts of Pakistan, for example, have a hugely high rate of schizophrenia (which does seem to be genetically linked in some way) because of the inbreeding resulting from polygamy practiced in the villages. This results in more people being more closely related to one another - as direct descendants of one man - than would be the case if monogamy were practiced.

Really interesting. Polygamy is a step back into barbarism for many reasons and this is just another.
Liberals, with their treasured, cosseted Welfare State, encourage polygamy. The girls who get pregnant, even though they have "husbands", are considered unmarried and therefore entitled to AFDC, food stamps, free medical and dental care, etc.. The "husbands" who may have 10 or more children, each receiving $600 a month or more, live off of it. That's why polygamy is so attractive to ignorant people - the government makes it a financial bonanza to those who otherwise would have to be ditch diggers.
I don't dig this poligamy stuff. I mean, isn't ONE mother-in-law quite enough?
I believe the term you are searching for is "baby-daddy". As in: "LaCharles is Keisha's babby-daddy", not "husband", which implies something different (rings, commitment, monogomy, joint responsibility for kids, etc.)
The schizophrenia rate in Pakistan (aka "The Pure Land") is 1.5% - which is, as you say, very high indeed.
The pure and holy inhabitants of that land most pleasing to Allah have the double whammy of poor hardware (due to inbreeding) and poor software (due to spending their formative years memorising the Koran and chanting epithets about the Joos).
By marrying sisters (quite common in this cult apparently you you can still have one mother in law. By marrying daughters you can achieve the same effect. Sick.

IIRC, the article went on to state that Arizona taxpayers contributed $12 million annually to the health insurance premium payments in Colorado City. That's an average of $1,500 per year for each resident.
In addition, Arizona taxpayers contributed $8 million to the police department, which has been been described recently as a bunch of thugs and enforcers for the "church".
Combine schizophrenia with the lunacy of the Koran and you have a pretty screwed up population.
