Yet he confessed that he remains baffled by the apparent contrast between Mr Blair's private remarks and his public utterances. He assumes those private remarks represent Blair's real feelings. But sometimes when in private with a liberal like Carter, you just humor him and agree with him just so he will shut up and leave.
