While Jimmy was in the White House, Iran changed from a pro-Western, friendly government (under the Shah) to the grisly rule of Ayatollah Khomeini and his fundamentalist followers, who seized more than 50 American hostages. And haven’t things been sweet ever since?

The civilized world is in great pain because of the power-mad fanatics running Iran these days, and there is a school of thought that Jimmy’s human rights policy encouraged the shah’s overthrow. In any case, Carter did nothing to forestall that revolution or lessen its catastrophic impact.

Carter is mendacious and despicable. He created the current Iranian regime; he carried an offer of $1bn to North Korea for nuclear development in 1998, after the same offer had been made to Carter's regime in Iran.

Carter (friend of dictators worldwide -- the more brutal, the more he likes them) wants Blair to comply with his demands.

I await Carter to campaign again with Michael Moore this November and again in 2008. Then whoever they campaign for will lose.

Has Jimmy Carter ever met a dictator he did not love? Unfortunately, this darling of worldwide leftists cannot seem to disappear from the world stage. Listed herewith are some of the more egregious of our 39th President's follies. The consistent theme is his unwavering support for socialist dictators.

n President Jimmy Carter invited Robert Mugabe to the White House in 1980 and fully supported this dictator's rise to power in Rhodesia. Moderate black Bishop Abel Muzorewa had been elected to the post of prime minister. However, President Carter with the support of the world press succeeded in declaring the election null and void. Mugabe, an avowed Marxist, was elected in a second election. The totals of the Zimbabwe disaster under Mugabe are still being tallied: 70 percent unemployment, a total dictatorship, the displacing of productive white farmers and the resulting destruction of productive farms, an exodus of three million Zimbabweans from the country.

n Jimmy Carter has shown a special dedication to the cause of leftist dictators in Central America. He used the full power of the office to undermine and set the stage for the overthrow of the duly elected Anastasio Somosa in Nicaragua, to be replaced by the Marxist Sandanista Daniel Ortega. No matter that the Somosa election had been certified by the OAS. He continues to offer moral support for Marxist dictators Fidel Castro and Hugo Chavez.

n The Iran hostage crisis occurred under Jimmy Carter's watch. From Nov. 4, 1979 until Jan. 20, 1981 some 66 Americans were taken hostage and held in the American Embassy in Teheran. They were released within hours of President Ronald Reagan's swearing in ceremony. Just prior to his inauguration, President Reagan was asked if perhaps the captors should wait until he became president so as to make a better deal for the captives release. Reagan replied, "That would be foolish."

n Ex-President Jimmy Carter has been instrumental in the rise to power of Hugo Chavez in Venezuela. Hugo Chavez was saved from recall by the voters in Venezuela in 2004 with Carter "monitoring" the election. The election was suspicious on many fronts. The exit polls conducted by an independent New York poling firm declared one half hour before the polls closed that Chavez had been defeated. When the official results were announced, Chavez was declared the winner by nearly the exact opposite percentages as the independent poll had determined. Jimmy Carter certified the Chavez victory anyway. Chavez has shown himself to be a continual hater of the United States.

n One of the most serious threats to global security is the nuclear threat posed by Marxist dictator Kim Jung Il of North Korea. In 1994, without governmental authority, Jimmy Carter went to North Korea and brokered a deal with Kim Jung Il that was supposed to keep that rogue state from attaining nuclear weapons. Jimmy's "negotiation" called for the United States to provide the North Koreans with $4 billion worth of light water reactors and $100 million in oil in exchange for a promise not to develop weapons plus assurances that inspectors would be allowed in. On Aug. 28, 2003 North Korea announced that it possessed nuclear weapons.

n Perhaps the most egregious and far reaching of the Jimmy Carter failures was his bringing down of the Shah of Iran in 1979, to be replaced by radical Muslim cleric Ayatollah Khomeini. The history of Iran is such that a secular government friendly to both the West and their trading partners along the ancient trade routes, such as India and China, had been an important stabilizing element in Mid-east politics for centuries. Jimmy Carter pressured the Shah, a longtime friend of the United States, to leave Iran. Then he denied him asylum and medical treatment. At the same time he supported the fundamentalist Mullahs who opposed the Shah. A religious revolution followed and the rise of Muslim fundamentalism had begun in the Middle East. The terrorism and overall unrest that plagues the world today can be properly traced to this specific failure of the Jimmy Carter presidency.

It is popular in some circles to blame others such as the United States, or Israel, or George Bush for the instability and radicalism in the Middle East while overlooking the role that Jimmy Carter played in the current situation. But it is a fact of history that Jimmy Carter played a key role in creating the two most important threats to global security today, namely Iran and North Korea.

Reprint that says it all.

Even better, Iran's current president was in charge of the hostages in 1979. How's that for fitting?

Carter is a malicious mental midget.

Carter has proven what he is: A bitter little man.

I am ashamed this man was ever President of the United States. It is said that a free country deserves the leaders it elects, but I can't believe we ever deserved him!

Carter is malicious and despicable.

He is indeed malicious and despicable. He is also, in my opinion, a genuine traitor to this country. That word is tossed around too much and has all but lost any real meaning. Yet Carter has truly met the criteria of Section 3 of the United States Constitution many times over"

Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort. No Person shall be convicted of Treason unless on the Testimony of two Witnesses to the same overt Act, or on Confession in open Court.

As for the witnesses requirement, millions of people the world over have witnessed Carter's treason.

Contrast our two last 1 term Presidents.

George H. Bush, a study in personal character, whether you agree with him or not. A man of personal honor.

Jimmy Carter, a bitter, little, petty man, the worst President this country has ever had, whose only concern is his legacy.

When "Carter" or "Jimmy Carter" is in the title, no barf/gag alert is required.

It is redundant.

Jimmah hasn't had a good thing to say about the USA since...well, since...

...a long time. If ever.

Jimmy Carter does take the cake. He tarnishes both the presidency and our nation. We just have to remind people that he lost to Ronald Reagan by more than 400 electoral votes. An ex president so shamed he can't even be invited to speak at his own party's conventions. To list his sins does take a long article but traditionally ex heads of state keep quiet not just in this country but is a well understood tradition worldwide.
However to criticize our closest ally for being our ally is reprehensible.

When asked by the media for his thoughts on the Hamas triumph in the Palestinian parliamentary elections, former President Jimmy Carter replied that while they have a terrorist past, at least they're not corrupt.

One of the complaints by many in the Middle East was the corruption within the Palestinian Authority and Yasser Arafat's Fatah Party.

Arafat himself squirreled away millions of dollars from aid packages that were intended to help the Palestinian people.

However, Carter's comment appears to dismiss the years of death and destruction perpetrated by Hamas on the Jewish State.

One of the first statements made by the leaders of Hamas rebuffed demands to disarm and change its charter. Part of Hamas' charter is the total destruction of Israel and the establishment of an Islamic nation.

Israelis are in shock over this development and they wonder how they will be able to negotiate with these newly empowered Islamic Jihadists in their midst.

It's one thing to fight terrorists living in the shadows, but quite another thing to deal with them when the are legally elected officials in a sovereign nation that borders the Israeli State.

Tehran sent its congratulations to “the Palestinians, the Hamas movement, all Palestinians combatants, and the great Islamic [jihad].”

But really, why should anyone be surprised? Carter has been doing this to Republican Presidents since he was--with extreme prejudice--voted out of office in 1980. Some of Carter’s verbal exploits include:

*Regarding President Ronald Reagan’s talks with Mikhail Gorbachev at Reykjavik : “I have always thought ‘Star Wars’ was a big mistake. My judgment is President Reagan missed a wonderful opportunity”

*Regarding President George H.W. Bush’s preparations during the Gulf War: "We are not planning now a defensive deployment of U.S. forces. We are now planning an offensive operation.” Days later at a conference at New York's Hofstra University, Carter states that if Bush attacks Iraq, the U.S. would “reap great and very serious deleterious consequences politically.”

*Regarding Bush’s “Axis of Evil” comment in the 2002 State of the Union address: “I think it will take years before we can repair the damage done by that statement…it was overly simplistic and counterproductive.”

It was once upon a time that U.S. presidents displayed the daily prestige and cognizance of the office of president not only when in it, but also out of it. Principally, criticism of current occupants of the White House was most often relayed privately, and was rarely seen on the op-ed pages of any major news organs. Sadly, former President Carter has deferred to pageantry instead of principle, an apt conclusion for a man whose presidency was more caricature than commanding.
