"...having us airship them simple cardboard boxes in which to pack production because they can't find a fricking cardboard box maker who works in August."

I have dealt with this problem in the past...contact the area DHL or Fed-X office, they may well solve this "problem."

Americans may not take much official vacation time, but they work far less days than most of the euros. For every 1000 salaried employees, US workers miss 163 days, the French miss 117 days and the good old Brits only miss 21 days and on average only work 119 hours per year less than the average American!

Thanks. I hadn't seen that. Seems Americans prefer less structured (officially mandated) time off.

And one more thing telegraph, it's EARNINGS not ALLOWANCE.

Allowance is just a more British way of saying it.

Don't forget that the Telegraph is the conservative paper.

Take time off from the office, spend it working on the house...

I don't take enough vacation . . . I'm taking a half-day next Friday (we only work half of Friday) and the following Tuesday, so I get a five-day weekend.

I plan to be a complete toad and do nothing, unless one counts drinking beer and sewing beads on fabric "doing something."

Sad, that he had to go so young . . . but a valuable lesson for you, so start slacking if you want to see three digits!

That's what my husband does. He'll take a week off, and will be up in the morning when I'm getting read for work, building a deck or a media room or something.

He needs to learn about down time.

There has to be a balance. People who work 80 hours a week don't have it. Working 40-45 hours a week, with 2-3 weeks off for vacation seems reasonable, especially if you have a family. Soccer games, school plays, family camping trips are worth more than the extra money to buy a third car.

"...so start slacking..."

I'm on it, Xenalyte! Got a long checklist of all the things I'm never gonna do! Getting up nice and late tomorrow so I'll have a head start on not doing them!
