I hope the big news on 22 Aug is that Murkowski won the R primary in Alaska. But, I have checked the dog food and there is enough to keep the mutt fat and happy until I run out of Spam.

Are you saying that you think the moves have happened (and we just don't know about it) or that they haven't happened and they should?

I'm saying that DC isn't blind (except to Mexican invaders)! I have no doubts that we have intel to keep us from being caught off guard! This isn't Pearl Harbor, and the eyes see better now!

Interesting thought, but why go through all that? Why wouldn't they just let loose with a first-strike? I don't think they give a rat's about what the UN thinks.

I have this terrible feeling that Israel isn't the only target - God protect our guys and girls pressed in the middle of this...

Could be. But in that case, the best response on our part is to be prepared for Iranian first strikes, but otherwise do nothing except to respond overwhelmingly after the first strike is swatted away.

If the first strike never comes, we're doing fine. If it does, we're doing better.

Which of course does nothing to preclude significant parallel activity on the part of those forces about whom we will never hear....

But they know that the NYT and its faithful readers care about what the UN thinks, and that's the charm of trying to provoke us (or Israel) into a first strike.

Large scale military exercises in the border areas populated with "ethnic minorities" coinciding with the government ordered smashing of satellite TV dishes in the urban areas - something very evil is coming down the pike, that's for sure.

Yeah, but they can only play the innocent victim of a first strike for so long.

If they detinate a nuke, even the NYT and the UN will have to give them the tisk, tisk.

The world is down on us because we didn't find the smoking gun WMD's in Iraq - there would be no doubt that an attack on Iran was justified if they use a WMD, even if in alleged "self-defense."

"He means to deliver chemical / biological -- or even nuclear -- weapons on Israel."

You know, this Lebanese incident may have been a trial balloon to see if Israel and the US would ascede to UN demands for a ceasefire.

The fact that Israel gave in so readily might be what Iran was looking for. If they launch and they know that Israel has a good chance of intercepting whatever they toss at them, they are figuring that Israel, with US pressure wouldn't launch a counterattack. This is probably why oil prices were inflated by Irans playing around with the nuke issue.

Everytime Iran calls for war, prices go up. The impact on the world economy should Israel launch a counterstrike would be devestating. So there would be pressure on Israel not to do anything and the UN would call for sanctions on Israel.

With Olmert in office, this scenario is feasible and a no lose for Iran. If I was in the lunatics shoes, I would launch.

If this is Ahmadinejad's "surprise" then I'm distinctly underwhelmed. Even the North Koreans can hit the ocean with their rockets, at least most of the time.

LOL. North Korea was actually lucky - I read that one of their missiles was aiming for waters near Hawaii. Imagine how ballistic (pun intended) we might have gone if that had happened.

"Interesting thought, but why go through all that? Why wouldn't they just let loose with a first-strike? I don't think they give a rat's about what the UN thinks. "

Iran has nothing to lose by tossing a few hundred missiles at Israel. The world knows that a retaliatory strike on Iran would have devestating consequences for the world economy.

Iran is banking on that and hopes that the US will force Israel not to strike back. Makes that drilling in Alaska vote a big deal. If I was a Republican congressman, right now I would be retabling the ANWR vote.

Let the RATS stew on that for awhile. If they cry political maneuvering, then vote against it.
