Illinois Senator Barack Obama warns citizens at his 50th Town Hall meeting about gas guzzling. It was among many points made to the standing room only audience at the Metropolis Community Center. Obama spoke on everything from DC politics to global warming. He says part of the blame for the world's higher temperatures rests on gas guzzling vehicles. Obama says consumers can make the difference by switching to higher mileage hybrids. Today the Senator said, "It would save more energy, do more for the environment and create better world security than all the drilling we could do in Alaska."

After the meeting... Obama left in a GMC Envoy after admitting to favoring SUV's himself.

Aside from illustrating that powerful and beautiful elites are happy to take full advantage of the double standard of petroleum usage: Al Gore can burn up tens of thousands of tons of jet fuel warning about Global Warming, but you are free to brag, like some libs do, about the great gas mileage they get in the Prius they use to run around town in.

Personally, I think we must resist viewing fuel usage as if it were competition in a zero-sum game. The game is not zero-sum, aside from the fact that government has rigged it through banning drilling in vast areas of the US. The laws of supply and demand cannot be suspended, except by the credible threat of deadly force.

We in the US are awash in a sea of hydrocarbons in various forms. A lot of conversion technologies have break-even costs that are below the present world price of crude oil.

When we think that if I buy a gallon of gasoline, there won't be a gallon for the other fellow, we are sunk and we will give up our liberties and freedom to Senators who will happily tell us they know how to solve the problem.

Yes, solve it just like Nixon, Ford and Carter did in the 1970s- lines at service stations, enforced car-free days, where you will have to get a ration card.
