Libertarian ping.To be added or removed from my ping list freepmail me or post a message here
So get off your high horse. No one defends police who shoot unarmed people in the back and the head.
She'll get $3333, her lawyer $1667
FYI, you need flash 8.0 to view.
have fun.
So, you judge all cops by the actions of a few?
I sure hope not.
Relax - she's only a civilian...
Fair game.
By the way, what do you do for a living? I'm sure a quick Google search could find someone in your profession effing up.
Doubtful you have the pressure and life and death decisions cops have (NOT justifying this one cop, just your generalized slam on cops based on anecdotal stories.)
If she was a Sheehaan protester or a pro illegal alien protester..ths would be an interet classic.
Wow! That joking leader and all those caught laughing on tape ought to lose their jobs to people willing to actually protect the people from people willing to shoot them while violating their rights.
The demonstrator was a lefty female lawyer, BTW. So the police no longer use skipshots (with shotguns) against demonstrations that get out of hand, and the rowdies are complaining about rubber bullets?
She's lucky they didnt use real bullets. Its been done before.
Police get to have a little fun too, you know!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It was in bad taste but they weren't trying to hurt the lady. They clearly were shooting at the sign not trying to shoot her in the head. What are you more upset at? The cops laughing or them shooting rubber bullets at her? Jackbooted thugs would've left her in the hospital beaten beyond recognition. Some places in the world have real jackbooted thugs in real totalitarian states. It is exactly this kind of over-reaction that minimizes the real atrocities in the world like Abu Grape. ;-)
25-50% of Miami? She might wind up derailing the red-hot downtown building boom!;) Seriously, it is quite disturbing, especially there was a remark made bu one of the BSO personnel that was not on tape but was in the newspaper, to the effect of "I'd go to war with any of you guys" . I mean, WAR? The militarization of the police has gone way too far, and when they feel the need to bop fat middle-aged women in the head with rubber bullets, then laugh about it, that's just sick.
Lt. Schwartz [of the Miami-Dade PD said] that the police were pelted with "rocks, feces in plastic bags and bottles of urine." Three officers were admitted to a nearby hospital for injuries sustained during the protests, and the Miami Police Department reports that a total of 18 were injured. Al Crespo, the photojournalist, admits that some protesters "acted out," ...
KATHLEEN HUGHES: In fact, ... a small group of troublemakers gathered outside a fence near the hotel where the ministers were staying. The city had invested nearly $200,000 dollars to build the fence.CHIEF TIMONEY: They came down at seven in the morning, and tried to tear the fence down. The hook you know, they came down with grappling hooks tied on rope, trying to pull it down, doing their thing, throwing paint at police officers, attacking the mayors car.
KATHLEEN HUGHES: There was more later in the day protesters can be clearly seen on tape, setting up barricades, trying to start a fire, and throwing things, in what Timoney calls a barrage of fire from the anarchists.
When you see a line of cops in riot gear like that coming down the street, it's a cinch they're not selling raffle tickets!

In preparation for the Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA) meeting that began on November 17, the Miami City Council passed a special ordinance (law) targeting protesters. The ordinance outlawed the carrying of many ordinary objects because they supposedly could be used in protests. Among the items banned were sticks [such as the kind used to hoist protest posters], anything pointed, balloons (not filled with air), supersoakers, scissors, glass containers, etc. The city council basically banned "anything hard that may be thrown and is carried with the intent to use unlawfully."The special ordinance also outlawed any "coordinated movement" of seven or more people in the street with the intent to gain attention or stop traffic.
why would anyone defend that?
It's terrible what they did, but I have to admire their marksmanship.
JBTs for the lose!
You did good, brother.
That video is completely edited to maximum effect. The voiceover starts in the middle of a sentence and hence obviously in the middle of another, complete story. There is no link (I know it can be quickly found) so a viewer, unless mtoivated, will never read a story that says what the riot was about: how long it lasted?, were there scuffles with cops earlier?, were those three that the tape cuts to (using one of the two men's video recording) told to back off?, were they given repeated warnings?, did anyone say that the shot was at anything but the sign?, were they laughing because a warning shot on the sign hit her but obviously did not seriously hurt her?, did the protest gather more people along the way? there are multiple shots at the same time - were there more than this lady shot or were all the shots at these three people, one lady-in-red hit- etc. etc.
There is nothing clear about whether the police had a right, after warnings to disperse, to fire rubber bullets. If they did have that right then wouldn't the best target be someone witha shield? The apology by the police spokeperson later on referenced the inappropriateness of the joking but didn't admit there was illegal action.
If this was an illegal action then those responsible should be prosecuted. The tape on this is very edited to a maximum effect to the detriment of the police. So your jackboot references are certainly not justified by this particular video.
Mmmm I smell a nice lawsuit for you pansy ass JBTs. Cowards.
I would like to see this backed up with some facts. Many are killed by them in the Mideast but where's the facts for the U.S.?
I wrote my first post without reading any others but just watching the video. My comments stand on that. But the broader point is that you felt it efficient to link to a heavily edited video piece that doesn't show any of the protester's actions prior (presumably the other part of the report cut out).
You provide no link to an actual write-up that has the complete story but jump on a jackboot tangent. Then other Freepers dispel the truth: fires, barracades, fences torn down, mayor's car attacked, urine bottles etc answering many of the questions I had posed. One of your libertarian hyper's metioned that the CO says he'd be willing to go to war with them (aghast). Well it wasn't Iraq or Afghanistan but about as close as we get here state side.
So your post and comments are dishonest and send a message that you support the LMSM's leftist propaganda techniques, techniques in full view with the Lebanon story.
Go smoke some weed.
She seemed to be fine, after all.

The Miami Herald
May 20, 2000
John Brooks, the Miami assistant police chief who rode with INS agents when they
took Elian Gonzalez away, took another job Friday.
Broward County Sheriff Ken Jenne appointed Brooks, 47, a captain and assistant
director of the strategic investigations division at the Broward Sheriff's Office.
The division's beats are organized crime, public corruption, narcotics and vice.
Brooks' scheduled starting day is May 30.
`It's going to be a wonderful challenge,'' said Brooks, a Miami native who has
lived for 22 years in Cooper City. ``It's the kind of work I like, and I've got a
tremendous background in that area.''
1 was calling all cops JBTs. 2 as well
About the only thing missing in your video is the guy in the green helment...
IMHO... all that would have been necessary was to inform her that she was under arrest and if she physically resists the arrest a close range shot with a tazer would have been more appropriate...
If she was protesting for Islam, I've got no problem with the officer.
Do recall that in Florida; not enough 'qualified' men/women to hire. . .so standards changed. . .dropped so they could build up their personnel. . .or perhaps this was/is. . . just a political correctness adjustment in hiring as per Clinton or just Demrat initiatives.
That said. . .there is no perfect. . .
. . .and why post and come out swinging? That by itself invites a like response. . .
