Video at link above shows a women holding up a sign protesting the police when one of the police shoots her with a rubber bullet in the back of the leg.She then turns around and gets shot in the forehead(wich can and does kill people) then the video cuts to the police gathering around after the protests and laughing about shooting her and talking about giving out trophys for it
Also everyone that has followed my posts knows im all for tort reform and want a loser pays system in place in this country. Well in this case the loser is going to pay so much that the women in the red dress who btw happens to be a laywer.(Yes i know im defending a lawyer on freerepublic wich might be the first AND second sign of the apocalypse.)is going to probably own 25-50 percent of miami after all is said and done.
Libertarian ping.To be added or removed from my ping list freepmail me or post a message here
So get off your high horse. No one defends police who shoot unarmed people in the back and the head.
She'll get $3333, her lawyer $1667
FYI, you need flash 8.0 to view.
have fun.

So, you judge all cops by the actions of a few?
I sure hope not.
Relax - she's only a civilian...
Fair game.
not really a story i usually ping you guys to but everyone on free republic needs to see this
Why? Because you hate cops?
There are plenty of jackboot lickers who will defend this.
wanna bet? There are a few on FR that will go to any lengths to avoid denouncing this behavior.
By the way, what do you do for a living? I'm sure a quick Google search could find someone in your profession effing up.
Doubtful you have the pressure and life and death decisions cops have (NOT justifying this one cop, just your generalized slam on cops based on anecdotal stories.)
If she was a Sheehaan protester or a pro illegal alien protester..ths would be an interet classic.
Wow! That joking leader and all those caught laughing on tape ought to lose their jobs to people willing to actually protect the people from people willing to shoot them while violating their rights.
i would like to turn your attention to post 14
The demonstrator was a lefty female lawyer, BTW. So the police no longer use skipshots (with shotguns) against demonstrations that get out of hand, and the rowdies are complaining about rubber bullets?
She's lucky they didnt use real bullets. Its been done before.
I would think that any abuse of power by a public official or a public servent would be of interest to those on this site.
You need to lighten up. I could easily post something sarcastic, too, just to get a rise out of you people.
That was a GREAT shot! Hope the "Lady in Red" was a DU'er!
Police get to have a little fun too, you know!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It was in bad taste but they weren't trying to hurt the lady. They clearly were shooting at the sign not trying to shoot her in the head. What are you more upset at? The cops laughing or them shooting rubber bullets at her? Jackbooted thugs would've left her in the hospital beaten beyond recognition. Some places in the world have real jackbooted thugs in real totalitarian states. It is exactly this kind of over-reaction that minimizes the real atrocities in the world like Abu Grape. ;-)
I watched that video again, and it was chopped.
It made her look like the lone "victim protesting totalitarianism" in the middle of street.
There is more to the story. Count on it.
25-50% of Miami? She might wind up derailing the red-hot downtown building boom!;) Seriously, it is quite disturbing, especially there was a remark made bu one of the BSO personnel that was not on tape but was in the newspaper, to the effect of "I'd go to war with any of you guys" . I mean, WAR? The militarization of the police has gone way too far, and when they feel the need to bop fat middle-aged women in the head with rubber bullets, then laugh about it, that's just sick.
Lt. Schwartz [of the Miami-Dade PD said] that the police were pelted with "rocks, feces in plastic bags and bottles of urine." Three officers were admitted to a nearby hospital for injuries sustained during the protests, and the Miami Police Department reports that a total of 18 were injured. Al Crespo, the photojournalist, admits that some protesters "acted out," ...
Certain posters hate law enforcement. Maybe they had a few too many experiences with cops, or they just don't like authority.
This thread seems to be one of those that caters to the malcontents who fit into both categories.
Thanks for posting "the rest of the story."
I've got two sons who are police officers. Their departments don't use rubber bullets.
In this situation, the miscreants would get tazered.
Heh. Imagine that.
KATHLEEN HUGHES: In fact, ... a small group of troublemakers gathered outside a fence near the hotel where the ministers were staying. The city had invested nearly $200,000 dollars to build the fence.CHIEF TIMONEY: They came down at seven in the morning, and tried to tear the fence down. The hook you know, they came down with grappling hooks tied on rope, trying to pull it down, doing their thing, throwing paint at police officers, attacking the mayors car.
KATHLEEN HUGHES: There was more later in the day protesters can be clearly seen on tape, setting up barricades, trying to start a fire, and throwing things, in what Timoney calls a barrage of fire from the anarchists.
When you see a line of cops in riot gear like that coming down the street, it's a cinch they're not selling raffle tickets!
Post 28 has the "rest of the story". Heres more:
Commander Armando Guzman, a 25-year-old police veteran and leader of the Miami Police Swat Team during FTAA, said officers faced violence that wasn't publicized.
Protesters set fire to freight pallets they placed on the street and fired ball bearings at police using ''wrist rockets,'' sophisticated high-velocity sling-shots, he said.
Demonstrators also flung pieces of brick and rebar at cops, said Guzman.
He was nearly hit in the head with a urine-filled Gatorade bottle.
Guzman witnessed the Ritter shooting.
''Unfortunately there were people between us and them,'' he said.
``If you're in the middle, you're going to get hit.''
half of the cops on every force are the best folks you'll ever meet. They are the kinda guys who run towards the WTC and save people. They risk their lives every day making our lives safer.
The other half are nothing more than glorified street thugs themselves. They hide behind a badge and are generally miserable failures as human beings. For these guys a law enforcement career is nothing more than the opportunity to be in a legal street gang, albeit a street gang clad in bad polyester and driving Chevy Impalas.
I've met both kinds.
ping
There may be more to the story but we know for sure:
1. All they needed to do was go up and arrest her if that were appropriate. They have NO RIGHT to inflict pain on her.
2. The police were apologizing for what was said on tape in their post action briefing.
3. These bullies are laughing at clearly criminal behavior on their part.
I am sure I have not sympathy for her cause. That does not make me sympathetic to bullies with badges.
Someone certainly needs to go to jail over this. And I am one that thought no one committed a crime against Rodney King in the famous taped incident. The gutless bullies hiding behind a badge that shot that woman deserve to be taken out back by her male relatives and have their asses kicked, but the chickens like them would again hide behind badges because they are too gutless and thus shoot women with rubber bullets.
In preparation for the Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA) meeting that began on November 17, the Miami City Council passed a special ordinance (law) targeting protesters. The ordinance outlawed the carrying of many ordinary objects because they supposedly could be used in protests. Among the items banned were sticks [such as the kind used to hoist protest posters], anything pointed, balloons (not filled with air), supersoakers, scissors, glass containers, etc. The city council basically banned "anything hard that may be thrown and is carried with the intent to use unlawfully."The special ordinance also outlawed any "coordinated movement" of seven or more people in the street with the intent to gain attention or stop traffic.
Wrong. You are making a judgment based on a chopped and selective tape of the events.
You have NO idea what actually happened in real time.
There are plenty of "fat middle aged women" destroying this nation through the courts and the ACLU. I'm sure the police get tired of the crap and treating these morons with kid gloves. It doesn't excuse the behavior because it was somewhat out of line but it wasn't a dire offense as some here seem to think. The wussification of this country is unbelievable. So many have no idea what REAL torture or abuse is. A whole segment of this country believes George Bush is a worse threat to the world than a radical muslim dictator with a nuke or Kim Jong Il running his country like a concentration camp.
The generation of spoiled brats have come of age and I fear they will need more than a few rubber bullets to put them in their place before all is said and done. I pray not but it seems they will not have anything but war in the end. They have the right to protest but when they step over the line they can expect the police to provide a response to them. They should be happy they do not live in Cuba.
What part of apologizing don't you understand?
1. Do you not know what the word apology means?
2. Do you not know when you say the word apology you are saying you were wrong. [The cop did apologize only for what he and others said, but he already has admitted that much was wrong.]
3. Or are you claiming that the tape just editted some random words by the guy when he was in civilian cloths and he really did not apologize?
Or perhaps they started off with good intentions but got tired of Joe Public and his ungrateful attitude and outrageous expectations. I have met some of those as well.
Did anyone read the damn article, she was po'd because they closed down her workplace because of police over-reaction to DU protesters. Geez. Kneejerk reres on this board. (Which reres by the way, would instantly switch sides and join the secret police if the US ever became a dictatorship).
If a cop "gets tired of Joe Public" might I suggest a career change...hehe.
why would anyone defend that?
I think the statements made after the fact were typical PR. The full tape will show what REALLY happened.
And if the "victim" won't reveal the full tape, then she is hiding something...like the truth.
Cops laugh after stressful events all the time, that is nothing new. And all they laughed at was "that lady in red," perhaps recalling a kook that stood out amongst the myriad other kooks that day, who they probably laughed about too, but that footage wasn't shown.
That's Free Republic's stock-in-trade. Do we deserve rubber bullets?
I say that as someone who supports FTAA; I am diametrically opposed to this woman's views. But then I've carried many a sign that would have made a plump target, and there are probably many left-leaning Philly cops who would've been glad to pull the trigger.
It's terrible what they did, but I have to admire their marksmanship.
No. That's because we don't join in protests where the participants are in the process of destroying public property, we don't throw bottles of urine, we don't throw human feces, and we don't use slingshots to fire ball bearings at the cops.
Read the "rest of the story" posts on this thread.
My mom told me the police were my friends and were there to help me. My children are being told no such thing.
If a Klansmen went into an NAACP meeting and shot six women, would the police be out at the Klan's meeting houses protecting them from the certain riots to follow? If not, why were the police out protecting mosques after a muslim invaded a Synogogue and practiced what he had been taught? Rioting and sabotaging Jews are a real social problem here in the USA, but I digress....(sarcasm will continue in sporadic bursts. Use your g@&&amned head to tell the difference!) I don't know why not! For all the rednecked, inbred, small minded, pin headed, illogical and immoral acts of racists across America, none can compare with 1,400 years of institutionalized sactioning of violence and discrimination against other folks by even the most benign practice of Islam.
As long as the "state" spends more resources worrying about what I have done under the hood of my car and how I drive, what is growing in my garden, ensuring the erroneously assumed right of a woman to kill her baby at will, and when I buy whatever quantity of firearms than it does enforcing the borders of our country and the monitoring the activities of inbred idiots in their mosques, the "law" deserves no respect at all.
It's really a shame, because most of the police on the street are good folk. Their bosses and the politicians tend to be weak kneed, pandering idiots.
