I'll do you one better:
We are in the age of 24/7 cable news where people see the war happening in real time. In a time where people expect instant satisfaction from every aspect of their lives, it doesn't surprise me people want this effort to be touch and go. However, this is something that we will be dealing with for years to come.

In my experience, such individuals do not feel that way at all. Opponents largely want to subvert Bush whatever the human costs.
This poll provides NO information on public support for the war. The possible reduction of troop levels from now until the end of the year provides no answer to how the public supports the Iraq war.
CNN is providing a deliberately misleading headline to promote its own anti war agenda.
To: observer5
It defies common sense, but statistically speaking, if a sample is sufficiently randomized, you don't need to poll that many people in order to draw conclusions based on a much larger population.
At any rate, it's not hard to believe that war fatigue has set in by now.
To: Shermy
"Then.. "Sixty-one percent, however, said they believed at least some U.S. troops should be withdrawn from Iraq by the end of the year."
But the headline reads "60 percent of Americans oppose Iraq war"
Those are responses to two different questions. Media mischief"
Yup.
Plus they were careful not to question registered voters, let alone likely voters.
They could very well be questioning plenty of illegal aliens.
And where is the breakdown by party affiliation at? We are probably looking at the normal 55% RATS selection ratio here.

"1047 adult Americans by phone"
No data to substantiate it was a valid cross-section?
No data on how many were citizens, registered voters or likely voters? Democrats? Republicans? Independents?

OK - explain this to me. 61% believed at least some troops should be withdrawn by the end of the year.
However, about a third of those (34%) thought the current level of troops should be maintained.
Just what kind of questions did they ask??? LOL!

The calls were made to 1,047 Muslims in NYC. What a crock.

I agree, we may get out of Iraq relatively soon, but we will have a war on Islamic Fascism for years and maybe decades.
The only way to defeat these bastards is to use overwhelming force so they realize the god of jihad is a false god and the God of love is the way to go.

Rudy Giuliani on with Hannity now saying that this terror plot is exactly why the war in Iraq is so important. We need to keep them engaged.

As a college student you should be aware that a self-promoting poll conducted by CNN of 1000 residents of South Bronx should be dismissed as utter contemptible bullshit.
To: Shermy
I didn't get a call.
Has any FReeper gotten a call on this poll?
Just curious.

60% of Americans who voted Democratic in the last presidential election, that is...

IMHO, the MTV group doesn't even know there is a war in Iraq or a War on Terror.
Just don't take away their iPod, their cell phones, their computers or their plasma TVs.
I just wonder how the kids from 16-19 are affording gasoline to cruise to school and the mall. School buses and public transportation is not part of their "life-style".
There are a lot of good kids out there, but right now most of them would pacify the terrorist just to keep their creature comforts. Unfortunately, most do not understand where they will be in 10 years, doing hard labor at the behest of the imans.

I was thinking the same thing. But people have short memories. They can't even remember what year 911 was in.

Poll: 60 percent of Americans oppose Iraq war
...while 35 percent said not all troops should be withdrawn. Another 34 percent said they believed the current level of troops in Iraq should be maintained.
The American public can't make up their collective or individual minds, it seems. You see, war weariness is a terrible thing, people just want this to go away, yet, they know DEEP DOWN it's not going to and maybe it wouldn't be right to do that, maybe they are really afraid of an Iraqi civil war which would be far worse.
60% Opposed to war, yet 69% say keep troops there. When the numbers get to 75% in opposition and 60 percent saying to bring 'em all home, then we will cut and run. The media can then rejoice because they will have finally accomplished what they set out to do.
I still have high hopes, though. The news from Iraq lately doesn't seem as bad as it used to seem. This Hezbollah (Iran/Syria)/ Israel conflict has taken over most of the major media these days. I know some would say that Iran used this thing as a diversion from the International sanctions that were coming if they didn't stop seeking Nukes, but this has also worked out as a diversion (in regards to Iraq) for the Bush administration, as well. Don't get me wrong, I don't think that this was a planned conspiracy or anything, I strongly support Israel, I just think that it worked out that way.

I really don't think that the majority of Americans understand what this war is all about. I have yet to hear a comprehensive explanation of why the Islamofascists want to kill us and the Jews. And why the Islamists are more dedicated to their religion than to any country. This is deep stuff and I think most people don't want to listen. Surely the democrats won't go there and the MSM spin it until it's unbelievable.

60% of "americans" are braindead morons who have been abducted by UFOs at one time or another. I can't believe these maggots prefer fighting the terrorists on the streets of America rather than on the streets of Iraq. It's going to be a b!tch getting killed by an IED on a New York street while on the way to Blockbuster to rent a chick flick for the wife. If that's what these so-called "americans" want, I say President Bush needs to pull the troops out of Iraq and Afghanistan and send them all on a vacation to the Pacific Islands. Maybe then, these so-called "americans" will be able to figure it out.
To: MinorityRepublican
Probably 80% of those surveyed were registered dems.....
