And after that, they need to retire the Darwin Award. Who can top this one?

This was a runner up. Notice how the fish couldn't be pulled out of his throat because the fish scales + fins prevented it.

Fish Swallower Chokes To Death

VIBURNUM, Mo. (AP) -- A man who apparently had spent the day drinking with friends choked to death trying to swallow a live, 5-inch fish.

Todd Poller's friends reported hearing the 45-year-old yell: "Hey, watch this," before he grabbed a perch from the water and dropped it headfirst into his mouth. Iron County Sheriff Alan Mathes said Poller choked and gasped as his friends tried to dislodge the fish. He was pronounced dead when emergency crews arrived.

An autopsy found Poller died from asphyxiation from having the fish lodged in his throat. Aside from choking, Poller suffered lacerations to the inside of his throat from the fish's fins.

Everybody on this thread is stoopid. Everybody knows that you need to smack TWO grenades together to get them open. I'm ashamed of some of the comments above mine.

All real Darwin Awards must be given posthumously

Criteria are as follows.

  1.  Candidate must die. Hospitiliztion is not good enough
  2.  Expiration must be primarily fault of candidate
  3. If progeny exist, must expire with candidate

The article did not specify if condition 3 was satisfied to the satisfaction of the Father.

I want to be your sledgehammer
Why don't you call my name
Youd better call the sledgehammer
Put your mind at rest
Im going to be the sledgehammer
This can be my testimony
I'm your sledgehammer
Let there be no doubt about it

(my apologies to Peter Gabriel)

what if one of those damaged cars parked outside had been yours? That would have ruined my whole day

Funny you should mention. Last night the lady across the street backed her car into my minivan parked in front. Knocked the front end six feet across the sidewalk onto my lawn.

You're lucky this wasn't an unconventional immigrant doing one of the jobs Americans don't want to do - you'd be SOL.

Wasn't it in Brazil where some scrap company got a Cesium-137 irradiator from a hospital, opened it up, and let the local kids play with the glow-in-the-dark powder they found inside?

At least in this case relatively few people were hurt, though I feel for the guy's family.

She's Chinese. But her daughter called me today and assured me they are insured.

That does sound about right - guess the gene pool could use a little thinning out down there.

How do you say "Here, hold ma' beer!" in Portuguese?

I don't know. Next time I am in Framingham, a/k/a Little Rio, I will ask.

"I think this one's a winner."

Yeah, this one's gonna be hard to top, unless someone slams the trigger on a nuke.

No, his save-card was bad. ;)

Two songs come to mind..."If I had a hammer" and "My ding-a-ling". A Darwin nominee for sure.
