Yeah, what a mistake that was, huh? Fleming is now on my "waste of time, just ignore him" list.
Well, there WAS that whole Woody Woodpecker float thing. :-)
Actually you make a good point.
I do not believe for a moment that all those critics are so full of love to every group and every individual. I think that they are simply hypocritical.
It is something Orwellian and sadistic to try to humiliate Gibson for his drunken misbehavior. I am guessing that he as a zealous Catholic tries to have love even for his enemies (and he has many). But with his belligerent temper and background it must be as hard for him as to fight with his alcoholism. At least he tries.
And what he has done? In drunken stupor he identifies a Jewish officer by his look and lays blame on Jews for all wars and calls a policewomen "sugar t**s". This is his hate crime?
What about his critics? Do they make any moral effort themselves? Or do they really believe that if they force others to "love" someone or everyone like Winston Smith was made to "love Big Brother" the world will become a better place?
BTW, my hunch is that if you want to understand what makes Mel Gibson tick see the movie Conspiracy Theory (DO NOT READ THE SPOILERS)
And I wonder how the recent events will affect the finishing of Apocalypto.
IINM, the Jewish officer was female. I don't know about you, but lady Jews look for the most part like any other lady to me. And I'm not buying drunken stupor. His BAC wasn't that high. For an alcoholic, it was more like 'normal,' and they are able to function ably.
Trying to find reasons to excuse his anti-Semitism is as bad as the author of this piece saying Jews hate Christians. A pox on both their houses, and that goes for their sympathizers, too.
I received such statement in private mail:
"And for my part I refuse to to see the gentiles of Central and Eastern Europe as anything but the handmaidens of the devil."
Would it be proper to make a complaint or to point a finger? No, it is much better if the author reflects on his foolish meanness without humiliation or pressure. We ALL do stupid and hurtful things.
Personally, whatever people's individual opinions, I think it is shameful how Mel is being attacked on all sides. It says a heck of a lot more about the attackers than it does about Mel.
Yes, they are self righteous hypocrites.
(Nietzsche - Thus Spake Zarathustra)
Well, they did. The Nazis in their inner (somehow secretive) circle thought that Jesus was the worst of all Jews. They blamed Him for subverting the pagan barbaric virtue. That is why Hitler said: "Our task is to undo 2000 years of domestication of man".
ONE of the key driving forces yes, but NOT the only one. As one Finnish poet said: "For Freud everything what is not not concave is convex".
You mentioned ages 15 and 30! Let me use this opportunity to provide my favored quote from Confucius as you must be less than 40:
"At fifteen, I set my heart upon learning.
At thirty, I had planted my feet firm upon the ground.
At forty, I no longer suffered from perplexities.
At fifty, I knew what were the bidings of Heaven.
At sixty, I heard them with docile ear.
At seventy, I could follow the dictates of my own heart;
for what I desired no longer overstepped the boundaries of right."
(Analects II,4)
No, the male officer was Jewish. Gibson lashed out at Jews and at females in police force separately. BTW, where are the women's protests for "sugar t**s"
This incident is quite the shibboleth.
I can translate hidden bigotry quite well.
You'll see "this PC era" and "thought police" among other giveaways. The Jewhaters hate the muzzles they must wear to pass in polite society today. They tend to chafe.
Actually the two Freudians I know are not "Gentiles".
Great thread; sure am glad I'm a member of the FR cult.
Great Confucious quote.
There is also that famous one of St Augustine,"Oh,Lord, make me chaste..but not yet"
