If you were to print out exactly what Mel said that night, then erase the word Jew and substitute it with the work "Neocon", he would be hailed as a great visionary of our times by his peers in Hollywood.

Can you imagine if Sean Penn, Martin Sheen, or Tim Robbins got pulled over under the exact same circumstances and the arresting officer had a "Vote Republican" pin on? What Mel said would be tame compared to the utter hatred and vile screaming that would come from those people. The exact same hatred, the same vitriolic rants that they are ripping Mel for would be coming out of their mouths but it would be an on an acceptable topic for them. Even I would go off like that if the cop was showing off a "NAMBLA Is An Acceptable Lifestyle" pin he got from the local meeting he attended.

Cut Mel some slack, at least his apology was a real apology and he is willing to admit he has a problem, unlike most hate mongers who revel in their hatred. (like everyone at DU does...)

As usual, most of his writing here consists of downgrading the intelligence of his intellectual betters (Ronald Reagan, Norman Podhoretz, Mel Gibson, Catholic Joe Sixpack) without providing any substantive argument for doing so, but his attack gets even sillier than usual in his throw-away lines about Lord of the Rings and the Chronicles of Narnia.

Why not Freud? :) His theory of libido caused a lot of mess in peoples minds. Why?

If people get convinced that the the key driving force in human beings is sexual in character and if the civilization is based on suppression or sublimation of this force than the result is perfectly predicable.

Most of people are less disciplined/compulsive than Freud and they will tell civilization to "go to hell", thinking that pursuit of happiness is only in one direction.

...I give it as my opinion that too many people these days have opinions on too many subjects. I’ve tried out the argument on a dozen people and it enraged each one, including my “adult” children. I know I’m on to something. Why does anyone care what an actor thinks about, whether it is the life of Christ or Jewish influence on history.

Some of the finest people I have ever known are politically conservative, observant Jews. Some of the most destructive, nihilistic people I have ever encountered are ultraliberal, cultural Jews. Quite the dichotomy there, between the religious and the irreligious. I think some people get caught up with politically driven behavior, confusing that with religion. Just my two cents on the matter.

Well, had you continued you'd have seen this guy managed to insult a lot of people including Catholics. He attacked Neo-Conservatives in a way that makes me think he's jealous. His attacks on Norman Podhoretz for "self-promotion." were just plain dumb, and I doubt if he's ever read any of his books. A lot of people here would learn a great deal from reading them. I especially recommend his book "Breaking Ranks." Considering the fact that Norman's writing and logic are superb and this Mr. Phlemming is all over the place, it's like a kid on the play ground criticizing a player in the NBA. Also, since the neo-conservatives reject Marx about as strongly and with as forceful intellect as any other responsible group, it's crass and a sign of ignorance to lump them together with Marx. Finally, I've a real problem with people who consider the atheistic Bolsheviks as being of Jewish heritage and as a part of the historic "Jewish problem." Note that Stalin, an Orthodox Christian, and Hitler, raised a Roman Catholic, do not cause the same broad brush opprobrium to the Christian faith.

This is NEWS that Stalin and Hitler had any kind of disciplined raising, everything I have read about their growing up described them coming from dysfunctional families.

Stalin was educated in a seminary. Hitler was a Roman Catholic in heavily Roman Catholic Austria. Was their Christian faith responsible for the murders they caused? No. And most people don't bring it up since Hitler and Stalin rejected any influence the faiths they were taught in their youth may have had on them. But the similar thing with men and women who were Jews and who were atheistic Communists are supposed to show us some connection, according to the philistines like Mr. Phlem, to the Jewish people as a whole. It's malicious balderdash.

They both still came from dysfunctional families which happened well before their religious teaching/indoctrination.

Who they became started from their beginnings and there appears to be little positive about that. Both what ever their heritage learned to abuse for their own self purpose others to the point of self destruction.

Look at the Clintons they have the same inclination to serve themselves. Their only enemy in all their years is the "vast right wing" and they sought to do whatever they could to destroy that group. Other than Hillry's vain attempt to claim a Jewish heritage neither of the Clintons to my knowledge have that heritage. Both could be described as being "Christian raised", there has been even a superpreacher praising their talents. Truth is their worst enemy.

Personally I know many people who attend Christian churches that voted for the Clintons both times and would in a heartbeat vote for them again. The Clintons have played the religious card and they both know well how to play the "sinner" you must forgive me card.

Yet both of these Clintons first had dysfunctional families and learned at an early age how to get what they wanted. They both have the communist/socialistic/liberal mind, what ever it takes to get what they desire.

Do not forget that Stalin was a heavy tobacco smoker while Hitler was a health freak.

And sure enough Hitler did not live as long :)
