Heat wave makes Pat Robertson a global warming 'convert'

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. The Reverend Pat Robertson says he hasn't been a believer in global warming in the past, but this summer's record-breaking heat is -- quote -- "making a convert out of me." On his "700 Club" broadcast, Robertson said, "It is getting hotter, and the icecaps are melting and there is a buildup of carbon dioxide in the air."

Switching sides on an issue that divides evangelical Christians, Robertson said, "We really need to address the burning of fossil fuels."

The religious broadcaster told viewers, "If we are contributing to the destruction of this planet, we need to do something about it."

Hey Pat, there is something called a season that has happened for thousands of years, it's called summer in the English language.

It's funny, when Pat comes out in favor of banning capital punishment and says that Global warming is real, the media is all over it, but if he makes a pro life comment, it's ignored.

Just more proof that my judgement of him 15 years ago was accurate. He's a blithering idiot.

Why anyone would accept Pat Robertson as an expert on anything is beyond me. I'm surprised the senile lump can still tie his own shoes. Isnt he one of the few who proudly proclaimed that 9/11 was God's revenge for America's wickedness...kind of the same thing that AlQaeda was saying. Then in his next breath suggested that we ought to assasinate Chavez.

Pat has become a useful idiot.

Stop and think, before there ever was the media mantra about "global warming", in many years gone, in many a "heat wave" I can remember in my many long years, did/would Pat or anyone else have ever attributed any "heat wave" before (of which there were many) to "global warming".

I guess Pat cannot fully apply the dictum for a Christian to "be in this world but not of this world".

Pat Robertson: Here at the 600 Club we need your money to spread the word of Jesus and build more advanced deflector shields for our galactic cruiser. Sally Struthers has a Tydirium Junker, which is the favorite ship of the Hutts, and she has trapped our new CBC ship in a positronic tractor beam. So we're gonna need an ionic tractor disrupter. Now, not a regular ionic tractor disrupter, but a negative tractor disrupter to spread the word of Jesus.

Let's see, Pat Robertson is in his 70's and all of the suuden a heat wave in late July and early August is a sign of global warming.

Dang I guess Pat Robertson remembers the days when the avg. temp in July and August were in the 50 F range.(eyes rolling)

conservatives better get on to tackling it or we are going to lose out big time when the left imposes a top-down command economy solution.

That's the problem. There IS no "solution" to the "global warming problem" that isn't a top-down command-economy one, aimed specifically at the American economy. That's the genius of the lefties who dreamed it up.

The global-warming phenomenon, as Pat demonstrates here, is essentially science-by-anecdote.

Just a general question to everyone...What is the general opinion whether there is global warming occuring? I believe it's occuring in a general sense, but I believe human activity plays only a very small part of it. Heat waves like this years', are just cycles...But when you look at the pictures of glaciers through out the world and their amazing retreats, those locations are experiencing some weather changes. I tend to view what some have already mentioned regarding sun activity and how it is even affecting other planets of our solar system. I don't think there is a need to be defensive about the fact that there is some weather patterns that indicate our world is getting warmer.

A seasoned citizen reletive of mine also beleives this globaloney stuff put out by the MSM, even though that reletive has lived through many heat waves with no air conditioning.

There is an adage that people will always talk about the weather. When it is mentioned at such places at the checkout line at a store and everybody is complaiing how hot it is, I say, "When it's 10 below zero in January, you will be wishing for the dog days of August". A light bulb usually goes off in their head and the conversation turns to another subject.

The problem is the liberal MSM plays up heat waves as the end of the world and they know they can use heat waves and cold snaps to push their liberal agenda, IMO.

No, it wasn't this one heat wave. Pat himself mentioned that it was a combination of a variety of factors.

Anyone who claims that one weather event is climate change doesn't understand the phenomenon. It is a cumulation of all weather that constitutes climate. The ice caps and glacial melting over an extended period is a sign of changing climate.

More consistent deviations from the historical mean in terms of average temperature is climate change.

If you paid attention to what I have posted, you would see my opinion is that we are currently experience a period of natural warming that is being exaccerbated and accelerated by human activity - the consequences of which are potentially huge and definitely unknown.

There IS no "solution" to the "global warming problem"

You are correct to say that many on the left have made this into a political isue and are looking to make hay with it.

This is part of my complaint because conservatives, led by W. and his oil buddies have been so slow to react.

What should have been a carefully managed and gradual shift to a lower carbon economy may now give the left a chance to grab power and redistribute resources which is the only true goal.

The technology exists to drastically increase efficiency and make a switch to lower or zero carbon sources of energy. A national focus on the topic would probably produce equal or nearly equal fuel costs due to improved technology in a very short time period. It would also tremendously increase national security, create new markets in energy-hungry China and India, and promote American independence.

But, since the ball was dropped by the right and some still don't want to pick it up, we may well end up with a much worse solution.

Yeah and this is the first time in history where temps were 100 F in the east US in August.

Get a grip and make yourself some lemonade, because you will probably be making yourself a hot toddy in January as you sip that hot toddy in a fetal postion in a corner of your abode worrying about global weather change.

The Ice Age Commeth
June 24, 1974

A growing number of scientists are beginning to suspect that many seemingly contradictory meteorological fluctuations are actually part of a global climatic upheaval.

However widely the weather varies from place to place and time to time, when meteorologists take an average of temperatures around the globe they find that the atmosphere has been growing gradually cooler for the past three decades.

The trend shows no indication of reversing. Climatological Cassandras are becoming increasingly apprehensive, for the weather aberrations they are studying may be the harbinger of another ice age.Telltale signs are everywhere —from the unexpected persistence and thickness of pack ice in the waters around Iceland to the southward migration of a warmth-loving creature like the armadillo from the Midwest.

Since the 1940s the mean global temperature has dropped about 2.7° F. Although that figure is at best an estimate, it is supported by other convincing data.

When Climatologist George J. Kukla of Columbia University's Lamont-Doherty Geological Observatory and his wife Helena analyzed satellite weather data for the Northern Hemisphere, they found that the area of the ice and snow cover had suddenly increased by 12% in 1971 and the increase has persisted ever since.

Areas of Baffin Island in the Canadian Arctic, for example, were once totally free of any snow in summer; now they are covered year round.

Whether global warming exists (and it does) has never been the issue. Whether global warming is man made or not is the issue. The multiple volcanic eruptions over the last year has put more carbon dioxide into the atmosphere than man has since the invention of the combustion engine! Maybe that has something to do with the warming?
If only man could come up with a way to make volcanos enviromentally friendly...
