Kerry looks at reality and sees his own fantasy

It takes chutzpah, as they might say in Haifa, to declare that Hezbollah and Israel wouldn’t be fighting now if John Kerry were president.

Kerry, who did declare that, apparently has more chutzpah than nuance, as it turns out.

“If I was president, this wouldn’t have happened,” said the senator from Massachusetts.

“The president has been so absent on diplomacy when it comes to issues affecting the Middle East. … We’re going to have a lot of ground to make up (in 2008) because of it.” Because of Bush’s focus on Iraq, Kerry said, the president failed to address threats posed by other terrorist organizations.

“He has made it so much worse because of his lack of reality in going into Iraq,” said Kerry. And then, “We have to destroy Hezbollah.”

It’s impossible, of course, to know what we’d have been watching on television the past several days had Kerry been elected president. Would Hezbollah not have attacked Israel? To answer that, we have to back up a few steps and first ask whether we would have been less focused on Iraq had Kerry been elected in 2004.

...snip

...Let’s pretend — after all, Kerry is pretending — that he could have soothed insurgents and terrorists alike and that, by now, most American troops would be home and Iraq would be enjoying the fruits of a fully functioning stable, democratic government.

We’ll give him that tea leaf. Having managed postwar Iraq better than the Bush administration, what about Iran? Without Iran’s support and provision of munitions, Hezbollah wouldn’t be kidnapping Israeli soldiers and launching rockets into Israel right now. Might we also assume that under the aura of a President Kerry, the Iranians would have passed on electing the Jew-hating, Holocaust-denying Mahmoud Ahmadinejad?

'Perhaps, perhaps, but we’ll never know. Given that Iran’s elections were arranged in advance by the country’s clerics, it seems likely we’d be right where we are: Trying to keep Iran from developing nuclear weapons and from keeping its promise to erase Israel from the map through its terrorist arm, Hezbollah.

Finally, we come to Lebanon, Syria and the Palestinians. With his broader focus, could Kerry have dissuaded Palestinians from electing Hamas to govern them? Or Syria to stop funding Hamas? Or prevented southern Lebanese from electing 14 members of Hezbollah to represent them in that country’s Parliament?........"

"STORY CITY, Iowa (AP) -- Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry on Saturday challenged Democrats to take back statehouses and governor's mansions across the nation in November, saying the country becomes less safe under Republican control.

"The fact is, the United States of America is less secure today than we were five years ago," he said. "Less secure because North Korea has four or five times more weapons .... Iran is running amok, the Middle East -- the wheels are coming off, and Iraq is a quagmire."

Kerry, the 2004 Democratic presidential nominee, said "there's a better course for America," and that begins with electing Democrats in 2006.

"Who you chose for your local races is going to have a profound impact on the country as a whole," said Kerry, who was making his fourth trip to Iowa since the state's leadoff caucuses in January 2004. He has been helping state-level candidates around the nation, and was in Story City for a $30-a-head brunch for Democrat Rich Olive, who is running for the Iowa state Senate.

Kerry insisted he's focused on helping other Democrats such as Olive win in 2006, and not on a potential run for president in 2008.

"I'm here because '06, not '08, is really important," said Kerry, who has raised and given $10 million to Democratic candidates and committees through his own political action committee."

Probably he would have pulled the troops out of Iraq, or at least tried to, and our word would mean nothing to any one in the world.

Bush may not be the greatest president ever, and there are certainly a few things that I wholeheartedly disagree with him on, but I thank God every day that he is our president instead of the totally brainless moron Kerry.

Remember, Kerry also would have put his "plan" into place to allow Christopher Reeves to walk again! Kerry needs to stop walking on water and come back down to Earth.

I think Kerry also has said, as I have heard MANY on the left say, that you cannot deny that Israel has the right to defend itself but the Bush administration has failed yet again in it's foreign policy by not calling for an immediate ceasefire.
For an educated person to make that statement without understanding what they just said boggles my high school educated mind. What kind of people do we have in our government?

"Less secure because North Korea has four or five times more weapons ....

But, but, John--the Sainted President Clinton and his chief negotiator, Madeline Halfbright, got a signed agreement from Little Kim that he would not build any weapons. An AGREEMENT, for God's sake!

While the Senate was debating this issue:

'The Senate voted 72-23 to limit debate on a bill that would open an 8.3-million-acre patch in the western Gulf to exploration. The tally exceeded the 60-vote supermajority needed to head off a filibuster and sets the stage for a final vote on the bill as early as Tuesday."

Yeah.

Kerry is so known for his diplomacy skills, such a smooth talker, he couldn't talk his wife/love muffin into taking his name.

She has so much respect for his opinion that she has with forethought continued to use the sirname of her LATE husband.

What a guy.

Between this funzanoon* and Ted Kennedy, one seriously has to wonder about the mental capacity of Massachusetts residents to keep sending them to Washington.

*Anyone who has seen 'Caddyshack 2' will know what I mean by the term 'funzanoon'.

I wonder if the 9/11 tragedy would have happened if John Kerry had been elected in 2000.

If he can show that he would have avoided the destruction of the World Trade Center, it would be a major boost to his presidential hopes in 2008.
