Good Point.
However when I ran track a zillion years ago I just thought it was the genes of my black sisters that made me run my skinny white rear off to beat a time.
Then again a zillion years ago we did not do steroids it was all about "work outs" and more "work outs" and no cheetos and kool aid during training.
I was in Junior High around the time they were doing mass innoculations for childhood diseases. As I recall, I got shot two or three times: MMR, polio, and smallpox IIRC (it was a LONG time ago). They had these air-powered devices that looked sort of like pistols. People were queued up, one-at-a-time presented their arms to the nurse, and got innoculated. And then went back to class.
I don't recall permission slips or informed consent forms going to my parents for this. In fact, I don't even really recall opt-out forms going out (I do remember forms going out for sex ed, field trips, and other things, but not for innoculations).
I did Google the subject, and in fact, the LA Unified School District was talking about making the vaccine available (with parental consent). There were other locations, as well. You can look up specifics through the hyperlinked search provided, above.

Bump!
We even would have practice BEFORE and AFTER school! Can you imagine a coach holding practice at 6:00am now a days????
Hence is why Cali is starting clinics in schools. Then they wil bill for the grant monies. It is all about numbers.
JUst because you don't remember an opt-out does not mean it wasn't there. I didn't have any vaccinations until college. I remember watching the kids get shots through the gun, but I never got them. (At that time there was something about eggs and the vaccines that made them unsafe for some kids)
I don't think offering a vaccine with parental consent, event through the school system is something to worry about. There are plenty of bigger problems out there
"Approximately 20 million people are currently infected with HPV. At least 50 percent of sexually active men and women acquire genital HPV infection at some point in their lives. By age 50, at least 80 percent of women will have acquired genital HPV infection. About 6.2 million Americans get a new genital HPV infection each year."
From the CDC website.
The vaccine is around $300. There are NO school districts planning to vaccinate children without consent of the parents. It is illegal and too expensive. Someone was just making that up. School districts may eventually require the vaccination, which is another topic. But, given the prevalence of the virus, it is a strong possibility.
I never said it was a problem. Actually, unless I can ensure that my daughter's future husband, potential rapists, or other sources of exposure are not carriers of HPV (to a 100% certainty), she will be vaccinated. Since I can't assure that she won't somehow be exposed, I guess that says I will have her vaccinated.
If being vaccinated will all of a sudden turn her into a sl ut, then I haven't done a very good job with her upbringing, whether she gets a shot or not.
I agree with you 100% Besides, kids don't pay much attentions to vaccinations anyway. They don't like the shots, but they don't really care what they are for.
Are you 4 86?
