Conservative national security allies of President Bush are in revolt against Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, saying that she is incompetent and has reversed the administration’s national security and foreign policy agenda.
The conservatives, who include Newt Gingrich, Richard Perle and leading current and former members of the Pentagon and National Security Council, have urged the president to transfer Miss Rice out of the State Department and to an advisory role. They said Miss Rice, stemming from her lack of understanding of the Middle East, has misled the president on Iran and the Arab-Israeli conflict.
"The president has yet to understand that people make policy and not the other way around," a senior national security policy analyst said. "Unlike [former Secretary of State Colin] Powell, Condi is loyal to the president. She is just incompetent on most foreign policy issues."

Oh how funny...and everyone wanted her to be President. Man you do something that people don't agree with and you are written off quick.
No, gender is not the key, or otherwise we would have peace by now.
Nor is skill the key, because we have had very skilled people serving our country in all positions.
Evil exists, and governments and individuals always have to fight against it. Dr. Rice is not the Savior, but she also is not our enemy.

Did I say she is the enemy? No. So, please don't put words in my mouth.
Neither does Israel need us to be a Savior. They are doing a superb job of defending themselves.
Any keen observer can see the mission to the ME is a difficult and volatile one. Israel is fighting a particular face of a greater evil. That evil is backed by allies, in the form of nations and terrorist groups.
Israel needs to know, both overtly and covertly, from us that we are still her ally. Demeanor carries as much or more meaning than words, and I think the right sort of man could convey the demeanor better.
Condi is fabulous in many ways, quick thinking, articulate and courageous. I just think she's over her head as SECSTATE and was better suited to her lower-profile NSA position.
Still, I was NOT sad to see Powell go, which should have happened sooner.

Newt was right several years ago when he called for a top to bottom housecleaning at the State Dept. Hasn't happened. Condi isn't going to do it any more than Powell was. If State isn't carrying out GWB's policies, at this point the responsibility is his.
