I don't care if they make it illegal after a long and public fight, but this death of a thousand cuts needs to stop.

Things like no smoking on beaches or in bars, exorbitant, drug pusher like taxes, behavior modification, are all controls liberals enjoy imposing.

Either it is a minor, unimportant, social vice, in which case we end the harassment and tax rape of tobacco users, or it is a death dealing drug compound that needs to be banned from modern life.

Tyranny of the Anecdote! alert

As a Western society based on science and data, we're supposed to go all weak in the knees and peel open the wallet when someone poops out a heart-rending singularity or exception to the rule.

One person flew off the Mackinac Bridge in Michigan out of millions that have traveled over it. Now, EVERYONE is inconvenienced if the wind in the Straights area burps.

I propose that everyone who succumbs to the Tyranny of the Anecdote should go live out in the woods like Cro-Magnon man, and quit bothering us scientific types with their Druid-like fantasies.

Ok, help me out here. The premise of this article is that anti-smoking efforts are being pushed by people who have a financial interest in selling smoking cessation treatments. Here's my problem with that: While I can see why someone in the pharmaceutical industry would favor government-funded HIV research to sell medicines, those medicines are designed to be used for a lifetime, even if it is a relatively shortened one. If someone successfully quits smoking, they have a limited use of the smoking cessation treatment. It's not a permanent cash cow.

You are correct - except if you listen to the anti-smoker propaganda which claims that nicotine is a more horrific addiction than heroin and thus they can keep the sheeple on the hook...........just look at the stats of the "nicotine replacement therapies" for smoking cessation - they are an abyssmal failure. More folks quit smoking just my cold turkey than do from patches, gums or pills.....

I learned many years ago to not allow the level of deceit to make me ill --- I don't need ulcers or headaches.

All of this no longer matters to me!

When the people authorized the use of deadly force, because of their absolute hatred of a "bad smell", then all forms of mutual respect have been abolished.

Today, I can and will smoke anywhere that I darn well fell like. In the past, I thought that American citizens understood the basic concept of choice and I always respect that.

Today, the designated smoking areas are no longer being provided.

I, as a long term smoker for well over 30 years, have always tried to respect my fellow citizens. Since that mutual respect has been abolished, then my side of the bargain is not longer respected or offered.

Marriot hotels will not allow me to smoke in a designated room? No proble;, I will now smoke IN ANY ROOM AT A MARRIOT HOTEL!"

I find it rather ironic, since non-smokers were upset about latent smoke smells in the reserved rooms.

Today, I will smoke in their rooms, and there is nothing that they can do about it!
