GREAT point. Years ago, some people wanted to show a video of how Castro was good to gays to our leftist group. I said no and explained why (MUCH less detail than you have). I wouldn't be surprised if Chavez isn't exactly "gay-friendly" either. Even when I was a lefty, I knew commies were evil. Had many uncomfortable moments with my friends.

Don't forget that tyrants, whether Nazi, Communist, or Islamo-Facist...are the masters of propaganda. Look at how the terrorists are beating Israel in the PR wars.
Fully expect Castro to recover and have a big ole party in downtown Havana for all the MSM to cover in glee.
