Outed CIA Officer Sues Cheney, Libby, Rove By TONI LOCY, AP

WASHINGTON (July 14) - The CIA officer whose identity was leaked to reporters sued Vice President Dick Cheney, his former top aide and presidential adviser Karl Rove on Thursday, accusing them and other White House officials of conspiring to destroy her career.

"As their chief method of punishment, the White House officials destroyed (Plame's) cover by revealing her classified employment with the CIA to reporters," the lawsuit said.

In a lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court, Valerie Plame and her husband, Joseph Wilson, a former U.S. ambassador, accused Cheney, Rove and I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby of participating in a "whispering campaign" to reveal Plame's CIA identity and punish Wilson for criticizing the Bush administration's motives in Iraq.

Several news organizations wrote about Plame after syndicated columnist Robert Novak named her in a column on July 14, 2003. Novak's column appeared eight days after Wilson alleged in an opinion piece in The New York Times that the administration had twisted prewar intelligence on Iraq to justify going to war.

The CIA had sent Wilson to Niger in early 2002 to determine whether there was any truth to reports that Saddam Hussein's government had tried to buy yellowcake uranium from Niger to make a nuclear weapon. Wilson discounted the reports, but the allegation nevertheless wound up in President Bush's 2003 State of the Union address.

Mark Corallo, a spokesman for Rove, said, "Without even having had a chance to review the complaint, it is clear that the allegations are absolutely and utterly without merit."

The lawsuit accuses Cheney, Libby, Rove and 10 unnamed administration officials or political operatives of putting the Wilsons and their children's lives at risk by exposing Plame.

The Idiots are supposed to have a press conference today at 10:00 today. I supposed the MSM will be drooling over this.

This is just an opportunity to keep the story going with upcoming elections and MOST importantly so old Joe Wilson can book some tasty speaking engagement this Fall at our Useful Idiot Universities (all supported by the slush fund known as the federal student loan program).

I'll be interested to see how Rove and Co. will crush this... And I'm sure that Plame and Wilson will soon have a book out, which will sell like lead balloons.

This is priceless. I bet the government can sue the NY Times for outing our classified anti-terror programs.

Well Wilson had his book and it flopped. Plame already got I believe a $2 million dollar advance on her book which is due out soon. For someone who wanted to remain incognito she sure likes the spotlight. Those two are nothing but media hoars.

I didn't see that clip.

Do you mean that two people, neither of whom are employed by the government, both of whom are party to a civil suit, met with the federally-employed opposition to the other members of the suit?

Positively Clintonian.

I supposed the MSM will be drooling over this.

But how will they be able to hide the existence of the amicus brief that they all signed?

This may deserve a thread of it's own because it is truly important that we all take note ~

Despite current articles and editorials to the contrary, in March of this year, 36 major news organizations and professional reporters' groups (including CNN, ABC, CBS, NBC, Reuters, The Associated Press, The Tribune Company, The Washington Post, The New York Press Club and The White House Corespondents) insisted that "no crime" had been committed in the "Plame Leak" case because, among other things, Valerie Plame's identity had previously been disclosed to both the Russians and the Cubans!

On March 23, 2005 these 36 "esteemed" news organizations and professional reporters' groups filed this legal motion which includes the following arguments:

This entire fiasco evidently still hasn't run it's course. I'm sick of hearing about something that wasn't anything to begin with and now we'll have to put up with the next chapter.....!!!!!!!!!!

"This is bullchit. Wilson needs to sue himself. He was the one who outed his wife"

IIRC Libby's attorney has stated that he has at least 6 witnesses that are prepared to testify to that under oath.

Most of the legal analysts on the Talking Head News shows say this lawsuit doesn't have a leg to stand on. Its all poltical.

"The CIA had sent Wilson to Niger in early 2002... "

Is that the official word now? That the CIA sent Wislon? I thought he went on his own accord. Why would the CIA send a non-CIA person to Niger to check this out?

"whispering campaign"

After 2 years of investigations its now been reduced to a whispering campaign.......

Whispering is a very serious accusation and is going to be pretty tough to defend against.......

You caught that too... Could it be that the French are still hoping to get their hands on British intel and discovery in a civil lawsuit is a hoped for method.

This is going to turn into a big mistake for Wilson and Plame.

Especially when it comes to the 'discovery' part the hearings.

They aren't going to be able to keep their secrets the way they have been. Unless, of course, they have a 'sympathetic' judge.

I do not know about your particular states, but in michigan you can take someone to small claims court for a 20 dollar fee plus the serving fee. You do not need an excuse to sue someone. If 5 million people filed small claims cases against these 2, what would that do to them financially? Just wondering......
