Public Display Of Affection Was Inappropriate

Public display of affection was inappropriate Thursday, July 13, 2006

My family enjoyed our first visit to your clean and beautiful city on June 24 and 25, as we arrived to deliver our daughter to a summer camp. After a much longer than anticipated drive, we arrived at our destination at 10:30 p.m., unloading our bags at the only possible spot at the hotel: curbside at the Courtyard Marriott on Spring Street.

My three children were treated to an eyeful of amorous behavior by the lesbians seated on a public bench, not 10 feet away from us and directly in front of the doors to the hotel.

How could I have known in advance that our hotel was in the midst of Gay Pride Weekend or that there would be such public sexual demonstrations?

I have thought about our being in the midst of Pride Weekend and have gleaned the following: Regardless of sexual orientation, out of basic respect for humanity, amorous behavior does not belong on a public bench. Respect is the foundation for our society, for civil conduct and for courtesy.

Rodney Dangerfield might have said his famous line to that couple, "Get a room!"

I did not plan to take my kids into the environment of a gay bar, so please have enough respect for others around you not to bring that atmosphere into the public realm.

I know that gay people want approval and respect, in addition to tolerance for their lifestyles. But respect needs to run both ways. Without common courtesy and the decency to reserve amorous behavior for a private setting, the gay-pride movement would appear to be less about seeking acceptance and more about provoking friction in society.

This experience, along with our visit this year to Disney World (also during Pride Day) did not endear the movement to me. Quite the contrary. My conclusion has been that the gay objective has been to be "in your face," and with respect to pride gatherings in the public realm, that respect is a one-way street.

If what the gay community truly desires is acceptance, I humbly suggest to gay and lesbian readers that next time there is a pride assembly, they consider reserving their intimate behavior for behind closed doors, as is also expected of well-mannered heterosexuals.

Of course, city leaders would much rather pander to the gay lobby than try and attract the "traditional" tourist. That this happened in Columbus is no surprise.

So, they ended up 'accidentally' at TWO gay pride events?

No surprising as the deviants keep their advertisements out of the media that normal people read for this exact purpose.

Plus, the people who allow them to use their facilities know they'd take a hit in tourism as people would avoid the sexual deviants so they keep it all hush-hush as well.

Three years ago, I saw a guy get a BJ in broad daylight while he was lying on a hammock near the pool of one of the hotels at Disneyword. Oh, and he was getting it from a woman. My point is that poor taste and obscene behavior transends sexual orientation.

My kids used to be on a neighborhood swim team. Just to keep up on swim team news, I asked a friend who still has kids on the team about team news.

Well, the team hired a new woman coach. Well, some of the kids saw the new coach making out with her female partner in the swimming pool parking lot.

I know the woman is no longer the coach because of other problems.

However, I would have been mad if a male coach would have been making out with his girlfriend in the parking lot.

There's a time and a place for affection, and a swimming pool parking lot after swim team practice is not the time or the place.

I was in Gavelston over the weekend and ended up at what I think was a Gay Bar during Happy Hour with my sister-in-law. It was more funny than anything else but then we did'nt have our children with us and the drinks were cheap!

You got that right. Maybe Marie could publish in advance her family's vacation plans so the rest of us could then plan to be elsewhere (except, of course, for certain FReepers -- and I will mention no names -- who would probably enjoy the lesbian makeout)?

But when deviant behavior is at the core of one's existance, such displays are more common. Witness many of the men's restroom in public parks.

Two different cities and two different vacations? C'mon, I despise these homo activists but this just smells like B.S.

There's a lot of homos out there and they have become "the love that won't shut the hell up!"

I've known quite a few families who've blundered into such events. I really feel sorry for them.

Witness many of the men's restroom in public parks.

Many of whom are married and living heterosxual lives.

Problem one, they went to friggin Spring Street to get to a hotel.

They should've stayed on the East or North sides.

Secondly, that's RIGHT near the Short North, so I'm not surprised.

Kinda sad really. And columbus STILL beats the hell out of Springfield.

:)
