In an opinion piece written for the Washington Post Tuesday, Palestinian Prime Minister of the Hamas-led Palestinian Authority wrote that he wondered what Americans thought of the "ruins" of the Palestinian infrastructure following Israeli military operations.
Haniyeh asserted that the international community was concerned for the hostage soldier, who, he pointed out, "was taken in battle," but did not consider that thousands of Palestinians were incarcerated in Israeli prisons for "resisting the illegal, ongoing occupation."
Israel has won admiration, Haniyeh argued, for standing up to "terrorists" [original quotes]. Yet it utilizes the world's 13th -largest army to rule a region whose residents do not posses armed forces of their own.
"Who is the underdog," he asked. "Supposedly America's traditional favorite, in this case?"
Haniyeh urged the American public to consider carefully "root causes and historical realities", and wonder why Israel was compelled to wage war against a "subject refugee population."
Regarding Israel's disengagement from Gaza, Haniyeh insisted that "Israel's unilateral movements of the past year will not lead to peace." He called Israel's recent gestures, such as the withdrawal from Gaza, "empty, symbolic acts." Israel has failed, the prime minister argued, to deal with the fundamental conflict. He characterized Israel's control over the Palestinian population as "complete," and said that the government espoused "expansion, military control, and assassination."
"The 'separation barrier is hardly a good-faith gesture toward future coexistence," Haniyeh declared.
Haniyeh wrote that the "remedy" included recognition of Palestinians' rights to the historical land; resolution of the 1948 refugee problem; and reclaiming all lands annexed after 1967. The Palestinian prime minister was unwavering in his demand for Palestinian statehood in the West Bank and Gaza, with a capital in East Jerusalem.
Finally, Haniyeh appealed to the Americans' business sense, arguing that taxpayers must be tired, after sending some $160 billion to Israel, of supporting "Israel's war-making capacity."
"Some Americans, I believe," he wrote "Must be asking themselves if all this blood and treasure could not have bought more tangible results for Palestine, if only US policies had been predicated from the start on historical truth, equity and justice."
This Americans opinion is -- Scr#w Um...lie down with dogs wake with flees!
He intends to explode our false impressions using his dynamite personality, and obliterate negativity in a blast of publicity, I suppose.
Ok, I shrugged.
But when I hear about Hamas members dying, I smile.
Exactly.
One of the main reasons you cannot deal with the Palestinians is that they really don't have any grasp of reality. Fire missles into another country daily, send your women, children and men into pizzerias and such and have them blow up families, teach your kids Jews are evil and must be destroyed, tunnel underground into another country and kidnap and kill a civilian student, all the foriegn aid given to you is either embezzalled by the goverment or used for bombs, as a culture you have no regard whatsoever for human life, not even your own children and the end all and be all of why I could care less about the sick evil Palestinians is; When your Muslim buddies flew planes into buildings in my country and murdered 3000 of my countrymen, you all laughed cheered and gave out candy. I will never forget that!! So as far as I'm concerned you all can pound sand up your butts!!!! I wouldn't spit on ya if you were on fire!! Gosh, I can't stand these people!
This reads like something from the DNC..
Well said and very true. Unfortunately, you have many mindless people in this country who will be sympathetic based on what they see at any given moment--context be damned.
Dear Haniyeh, you are a criminal, a thug, and possibly and probably a terrorist. Thus, we don't support you.
Sincerely,
The United States public

Q [Palestinian Official]: Mr. Secretary, You talked about countries that were trying to produce weapons of mass destruction. You talked about Iraq and you talked about Iran and North Korea. I have a question, a direct question to you. What are you doing with Israel? As far as Israel is concerned, Israel has more atomic weapons in the region than any other country. Why do you remain silent in regard to Israel? I think its important to answer this question because this has to do with the world, the strategy that we are pursuing today. I think that if the position towards Israel were different then the situation would be different in the Near East, and this is a great problem.
Rumsfeld: You know the answer before I give it, Im sure. The world knows the answer. We take the world like you find it; and Israel is a small state with a small population. Its a democracy and it exists in a neighborhood that in many -- over a period of time has opined from time to time that theyd prefer it not be there and theyd like it to be put in the sea. And Israel has opined that it would prefer not to get put in the sea, and as a result, over a period of decades, it has arranged itself so it hasnt been put in the sea.
