Costs, impact tallied at end of Rainbows (Rainbow Family hippies in Colorado)

The Yampa Valley Medical Center will have provided more than $100,000 in medical care that probably won't be repaid.
The Routt County Humane Society scrambled to vaccinate dozens of dogs after an outbreak of the deadly parvovirus, and officials fear there could be as many as 200 pets abandoned.
And the Forest Service, which spent nearly $800,000 just for its incident-management team, will be left with the task of rehabilitating the land.
Numerous Rainbows are staying behind to help with site recovery, but it could take years for Big Red Park to look normal again.

At an anti-Bush protest in northern NJ, the liberals just trashed the penned in area they were assigned for their protest. We conservatives, all 5 of us didn't have to stand in the pen, mainly because the liberals kept threatening violence.
Anyway as they were leaving, you could see how badly they soiled their nest. Virtually anything in their hands at the end of their protest was dropped to the ground. So using my bullhorn, I made this announcement, "I understand that George Bush is poisoning the planet, but could we please have the environmentalists come back and pick up their trash?" Made that plea a couple of times and received a lot of middle finger salutes...until one of the TV camera lights came on and then some more. Now it was a mad scramble to get back from the parking lot to be seen picking up. It was classic.

No surprise. Everyone knows that hippies are, as a group, the biggest slobs on the face of the planet.Except the hippies. They're all lying to themselves about being human pigs.
I lived next to Seattle Center for 12 years. I saw thousands of venue crowds come and go: basketball fans, hockey fans, symphony and opera crowds....theatre crowds....rock concert crowds, etc etc....I've seen them all.
Consistently and without variation - year after year before the death of Jerry Garcia - the crowd that did the most damage, disrupted the local neighbor the most, and left the most litter in their wake, was the Deadhead hippie crowd.
They were so bad that I was literally happy at the news that Jerry Garcia had died. My first thought was "Sweet! We won't have to put up with the Pig People anymore!!!!"

'Sweet! We won't have to put up with the Pig People anymore!!!!"
Now we get the followers of the band "phish". They try to imitate the Deadheads, but do it poorly. Hope they don't come to your area.

Wasn't one of Phish's members caught taking some 'artistic' photos of some big biker's young (under 14 if I recall) daughter?

I live near a somewhat elite leftist liberal arts college. There is a house down the street that rents to college students during the school year. Although the rest of the neighborhood is exceptionally tidy and well kept, the yard is an absolute disaster and the bushes full of trash.
For a long time I assumed it was the owners who just didn't take care of the place. Then one day they threw a party. A late model Honda parked next to our place. It was covered with militant environmental mantras, carelessly applied. A huge bunch of kids piled out and headed down the street. Several hours later, they returned to the car and dropped six bottles in the parking strip, along with several McDonald's/Burger King/Taco Bell bags.
If it was an isolated incident, I would just ignore it as a product of youthful irresponsibility. But in the 18 years we've lived here, various incarnations of the same event have happened over and over.
In the end, I figured that "saving the earth" isn't something THEY are responsible for, it's something everyone else needs to take care of for them. One more example of how leftists believe that what you say is more important than what you do.
To: pollyannaish
And one more thing...I'm pretty sure half of these kids would be thrilled to participate in any Anarchist event they could find. Protesting the evils of Honda, McDonald's, Burger Kind, Taco Bell and most deliciously ironic, Starbucks.
Sometimes, I wonder.

a more positive view was offered by Michael Zopf, director of the Routt County Department of Environmental Health. "As far as we were concerned, they were good guests," Zopf said. "The environmental ethic that they live and that they practiced, at least in Routt County, was exemplary."
This is from yesterday's source article
There seems to be a huge disconnect. Maybe this guy hasn't gone out to the site.

The Dean of Students might be interested in getting a note from the neighbors. Ditto local law enforcement.

LOL. The Dean of Students lives on the next block. Considering how some residents feel about some of these kids, I'm sure he hears a LOT.
That said, I save the law enforcement angle for after party peeing in our yard although that's only happened a couple of times and it was nice to have a little credibility when it did.
We actually live in a nice, very quiet neighborhood. And when it comes right down to it, I don't mind actually doing something nice for the planet. I'm just old enough to know that "planet saving" starts at home. ; ).

I found the news story, she was 9:
http://www.local6.com/news/2414796/detail.html
NEW YORK -- A Phish is on the hook for endangering the welfare of a minor after he allegedly tried to take pictures of a young girl inside a deserted boathouse, according to a report.
Mike Gordon, 38, was arrested after being found late at night in a secluded area with a 9-year-old girl. The girl's parents raised an alarm when she disappeared from a backstage area at Jones Beach Theater, WNBC-TV reported...

And these people claim to love nature and animals? What about any deer or other wildlife in the area? They would be negatively impacted too. They love nothing except themselves.
I would think local Forest Services could lock the gates at the road leading in. A few years of no place to land and they might stay home, or whatever they call home. It is ridiculous to allow this to go on.

"I wouldn't say it's been a positive or a negative," said Routt County Commissioner Doug Monger. "Basically, it was an add-on, people-wise, to an already stressed-out infrastructure. ... But when we got chosen, I don't think we had any opportunity to tell them that we can't have them."If I lived in Routt County, I'd try to make sure this guy lost his job.

Paint ball gun.
Keep the paint balls in the freezer.
That way they won't leave a mark.
At least not right away.

I suspect the forest damage really is minimal. The land management folks made similar complaints about World Youth day in Denver, whose trampled wild fields grew back just fine.
Now had the rainbow people started a forest fire, that'd be another matter.
