Corzine screwed the pooch on this one. As opposed to his predecessor, who screwed... well, never mind.
Is it my imagination or has every Democrat elected governor of NJ in the last 20 years proceeded to meltdown politically?
To: wagglebee
What?! A state government has shut down all nonessential government work?! NO CASINOS!!!! SHRIEK!!! The horror - the horror - man the lifeboats - women and indians first!
Good thing Corzine is a democrat, otherwise he'd be blamed by the national media. But because he is a democrat, we'll have to logon to Freerepublic to hear about it.

It does appear that the Dems have quite a track record in NJ, Florio, McGreedy, and now Daddy Warbucks.

excellent. The scourge of gambling needs to be stopped. If it takes a budget crisis, so be it. I'll bet it doesn't stop it.

If the casinos shut down, the state would lose an estimated $2 million in tax revenue each day they stayed closed. Republican Assemblyman Francis Blee, whose district includes the casinos, said it was important for them to remain open.
"We will have tens of thousands of individuals, real people, that are going to be hurt by this," he said. "There will be bread-winners who are not bringing home a paycheck." Let them eat cake! Emperor Jon has a point to make. And hard-earned money to take, through the taxes he'll rake.

The article states that if the casino's are shut down they would lose 2 million a day in tax money.
The state requires monitors.
In fact if the state allows them to stay open New jersey may take in 3 million dollars a day, since their monitors wont be skimming. LMAO.

Anyone with ANY sense could "predict" MORE TAXES when you elect a demoncrat.

it will never happen, there will be a deal made, these casinos will never close.
To: wagglebee
This is not good. The casinos were probably the cleanest businesses in Jersey.

let's hope Kean Jr has some decent politicos who can spin this issue. one problem is - its happening over a holiday weekend, when few people are paying attention to the news.
To: nmh
I wonder what the revenue for the lottery is?? Must be in the millions also.

Corzine has found a way to balance the budget - don't pay state employees for a few weeks. Problem solved.
To: oceanview
They will be paying attention if they are vacationing and can't go to the beaches, state parks, campgrounds on state property, racetracks, and casinos.

Does this mean he'll be "laying" off his various mistresses and halting all "loans" to them until further notice?
To: mware
