It is too early for polls, and they cost money, and at this stage would favor incumbent and lose Irey money and support.

Was just "lucky" to see that snake Alan Colmes on w/o Hannity badgering Victoria Tensing over what did NY Time disclose huh? huh? huh? Rich Lowery, subbing (poorly) for Shawn, says well Murtha even called Times to ask them to not print. Graldine Ferarro ("Don't lecture New Yawkas about security) and Colmes take that cue to come back with something like Murtha is a responsible guy. Lie! The NYTimes Editor hinted that Murtha told them to do what they wanted. Only Keane and Hamilton asked them not to go print (of the 3 outsiders the WH called upon to call upon the NYTimes). Twist, spin, gag. Why in H does WJ give a clown like Murtha credibility by being its spokesman? It would not surprise me that they are backing the SOB. (Note how they are cutting Kathleen Harris' throat in FL? or how they are helping to make Clintoon an international celebrity with Tsunami relief appointment?).

Somebody has Murtha by the short hairs. The guy has spent 30 years in Congress (after getting a free pass in ABSCAM) content to be a back bencher, gaining seniority on a plum committee with lots of "earmarks" and loading on pork for his district and the associated personal benefit$ of feeding friends, and now suddenly at an age where he should be looking for nursing homes jumps out to be a national figure. Six months ago his name recognition inside his home district was probably 20%. Now, it likely 50%+ nation wide.

He is an old-time corrupt pol and when John Murtha looks for cameras and lights, I strongly suspect it's not his idea (if he ever had one). He's being extorted. Someone on the left has the goods on him and is pulling his strings -- probably another sting --- CIA rouges?

He does not want to spend his 'golden year'in Club Fed like his buddy Duke Cunningham.

Just peeking in for a moment, but did want to "remind" folks that Johnstown is no longer the bulk of the 12th. ;)

As for "Murtha's pork"? A reminder that, according to the Tribune -Democrat, the per capita income in Johnstown is barely over $25,000/yr; the population is declining at a rate of aprox. 200/mo.; over 1000 showed up to welcome our hometown unit back from Iraq and the area regards them as "HEROES".

As for the National Flood Memorial? It was refurbished in 1989 (yes, that's nearly 20 years ago and nothing since, btw) to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the 1889 flood. As usual, Murtha had little or nothing to do with it, but while I can't remember for sure, he probably implied that he did. The same with the Gamesa deal and a great many other things. ;)Funny thing that "pork". It never seems to translate into many good-paying "jobs" for locals.

OTOH, I see you've gotten a good dose of the "Johnstown mentality" which is a large part of the reason that Johnstown continues to "die", while surrounding areas are growing.

Have you seen this?

Here is the Sun-Sentinel's correction:

"An article in Sunday's editions misinterpreted a comment from U.S. Rep. John Murtha, D-Pa., at a town hall meeting in North Miami on Saturday. In his speech, Murtha said U.S. credibility was suffering because of continued U.S. military presence in Iraq , and the perception that the U.S. is an occupying force. Murtha was citing a recent poll, by the Pew Global Attitudes Project,

LOL! Yes, I've been dealing with family matters for the past couple of weeks and for the forseeable future, but took a "break" to catch up tonight. :)

I thought you might need a little "balance" on the situation. ;)

"I don't believe Tom Daschle was too worried either but you don't see him in the Senate any longer."

But his opponent was South Dakota's lone Congressman John Thune who was very popular in the state.

That's true, but many people post things here that imply Diana Irey has never been heard of in that district which is far from correct. She's been a Washington County Commissioner for ten years and is a respected Repub.

...and yet couldn't manage to defeat a vulnerable freshman in Tim Johnson.

I think Irey could make a very good point that a good-looking young member of the majority party would bring home a lot more bacon than a senile member of the minority who could kick the bucket at any minute.

Well, she could put it more kindly to the geriatric members of Murtha's district, but these are the facts on the ground.
