Michelle Malkin had a large article on the Pendleton 8 the other day.

After reading it, My first assumption was that they are innocent.

I hope the administration and the military are not succumbing to "political correctness," otherwise known as "losing the will to win."

That already happened when it went from a military mission to a nation rebuilding/humanitarian one especially while our troops are still being shot at. Time to halt anything but a military mission in Iraq, make the no longer a military threat, declare it done, and end it. NOTE: I am not saying cut and run I am saying complete the military mission by ending Iraq's capabilities to be a threat for decades. Take out all infrastructure so their next war is fought with traditional rocks.

Given the political climate created by Murtha, is there any doubt that if the government gave anyone the benefit of the doubt, the MSM would make it an impeachable offense? I think that at this point virtually all allegations have to be brought to court when they otherwise would not have.

The AP has a much juicier title...Marines, sailor to be charged with murder
All right! Let's all run over there and read the attention grabbing, yet misleading, headline!
In the article...But the announcement did not mention murder or other charges.
Tadah!

"I'm no expert on the law of war. but I'd say a good starting point is this: if U.S. troops did it in WWII and were not punished for it, it's OK now."

Some soldiers in WWII perpetrated unauthorized killings; some were punished and some weren't. I think "Saving Private Ryan" portrayed it fairly well; in the heat of battle, there's little incentive to take prisoners, even if the rules require it.

Political correctness and rules of engagement are enemies of our troops just as much as the jihadists are IMO.

Major Thomas: "The barbarities of war are seldom committed by abnormal men. The tragedy of war is that these horrors are committed by normal men in abnormal situations."

If they killed a civilian without any justification (as they are alleged), they are a blot on the honor of our military. They should receive no mercy who showed no mercy.

Perhaps you missed the law school lecture where they taught that killing without justification is not always murder. It runs the gamut from involutary manslaughter to first degree murder. These men have not been charged with murder, but merely with shooting a man without provocation. I suspect there are two sides to this story.

Knowing the quality of the witnesses in Iraq, I would be more than willing to give these men every benefit of the doubt. I suspect there is a lot of internal pressure from Clinton leftovers in the Pentagon that is fueling a lot of this stuff right now. The guys on the ground who are laying their lives down for us need our support, not our blanket condemnations.

And if guilty, they still deserve some measure of mercy. How many lives did these guys save before they took one (if they took one)?

This story is days old. And ABC offered nothing new, but decided to make it news again.

The Haditha Marines are not in confinement to the best of my knowledge.

Who gives a crap? Good deeds don't give you points to cancel out bad ones.

DANG, not another smear attempt by the drive-by media on our military heroes. This is getting old. Perhaps the media should be forced to declare their intentions. Oh, I'm giving the drive-by media the benefit of the doubt. I need to stop.

By this standard, pretty much the entire chain of command in World War II, from Presidents Roosevelt and Truman on down the line, could legitimately be considered war criminals and a blot on the honor of the military who deserved to receive no mercy.

I know that we're all supposed to be brainwashed into believing that the old rules of war can't be permitted to apply today thanks to technology and everything, but I still say it's a bunch of politically correct, liberal bullcrap.

Well...then Gen. McInerny is wrong...because he said he went on Fox News this morning calling for their release from confinement.

Thanks for the information.

One telling thing that happened yesterday in terms of these and other accusations is the release of the report that "there was no knowing coverup" of Haditha.

Whatever else that means, it does mean that Murthas sources were wrong.

Murtha said his sources indicated THE REPORT would show there definitely was a coverup.

All we can say is that he was wrong.

IF his sources were wrong there, then one must begin to suspect his sources on other revelations they made to him.

(He was probably set up by Karl Rove....that dastard! :>)
