Police: Homeowner shoots teen during burglary
FROM STAFF REPORTS
Monday, June 19, 2006 A Longview homeowner early Monday shot and killed a 15-year-old boy who police say was one of three teenagers attempting to burglarize the man's home in the 1100 block of Camille Drive. Longview Police responded to the residence on Camille Drive at approximately 3:30 a.m. The homeowner told police he was sleeping and heard noises, including glass breaking, according to a media release from the Longview Police Department. The man armed himself with a firearm and entered his living room, where he saw several people standing in the room one person holding what appeared to be a weapon. The man shot toward the person he believed was holding a weapon. When police arrived, they arrested Gregory Allison, 17, of Longview, who was being detained at the scene by the homeowner. A 15-year-old boy was found in the woods behind the residence with a gunshot wound, and was taken to Longview Regional Medical Center, where he later was pronounced dead. Police also found a 14-year-old boy at a residence on Woodway Lane after they received calls the boy also was suffering from a gunshot wound. The 14-year-old boy was taken to Good Shepherd Medical Center, and his condition is unknown. Allison is being held at the Gregg County Jail on a charge of burglary of a habitation. The case remains under investigation.
He and his daughter were spending the night at the house "just in case."
Two teens were shot, one was killed. Another teen was injured jumping from an upper deck and was the one detained and held for the police. The police are also looking for a 21 YO male who fled the scene. They know who it is and it is just a matter of time before they get him.
The young homeowner and his family are devastated. Send prayers
The object the owner thought was a weapon was a shovel they used to break in the door.
The government should pay a bounty whenever human garbage is killed. And a medal.
I lift them up in prayer to God. He was in reasonable fear of his life - and so he did what he had to do to protect himself and his child...
Kudos to your nephew. That's pretty good shooting.
As to the perps, I have zero sympathy for these slugs. Burgle an occuppied home and die: it's as simple as that. You'd think the word would start to get out.
Perhaps "teens" shouldn't be breaking into houses.
Too bad, but...I'd do the same thing. Period.
Another success story.
Especially in TX.
in before the ping
Prayers up for your nephew and his family. May God grant him the peace of knowing that he did the right thing.
IMHO, 14-15 year-olds should be quite old enough to know that busting into someone else's house in the middle of the night is a really bad idea. May they serve as a warning to others.
Moral of story: Don't bring a shovel to a gunfight.
If they used the shovel to break in the door, they very well may have used the shovel to break his and/or his daughter's skulls.
These miscreants chose poorly. The homeowner chose wisely.
The community should insist that young people are educated in the schools that burglary and theft and wrong and obeying these prohibitions (as well as other moral law) protects everyone. Reckless disregard and coveting the property of others always harms someone.
Given the right conditions (e.g., an unarmed homeowner), a shovel can be a hell of a weapon.
Interesting that the ethnicity of the "teens" (youths) was not mentioned.
Well at least the kid avoided a life of crime.
She said her nephew was deeply involved with his religion and has spent time as a volunteer missionary to Belize. His daughter is a Mayan from Belize. They adopted her as an infant and she is now in the second grade.
A shovel is a weapon in a case like that.
The people involved are not my relatives. They are the niece and nephew of my sister's husband. They are his brother's daughter and her husband.
Darwinism the way it's supposed to work.
Why should it matter?
The media will play and replay the word "teen".
Join the NRA.
Because of PCism.
Sorry, I'm not following you.
I agree. These teenagers got what they deserved. THEY broke the law and THEY paid for it.
Obtain installation of a home security device that is directly linked to emergency services. There are sensors for all windows and doors. I always had quick response when I was cooking and the fire alarm went off, if I didn't get to the phone quick enough.
Also the loud alarm would scare the hair off of a dog.
"The object the owner thought was a weapon was a shovel they used to break in the door."
A shovel IS a weapon. They could easily kill someone with a shovel.
"Interesting that the ethnicity of the "teens" (youths) was not mentioned."
What does that have to do with anything?
"I always had quick response when I was cooking and the fire alarm went off, if I didn't get to the phone quick enough."
Where I live the police typically do not respond to alarms unless the homeowner confirms via a secondary phone call that they really need the police. The monitoring company is quick but diall 911 and pray isn't a form of self defense.
You must be a better cook than I am!
Just a little more information on my nephew-in-law James. This young man is one of the most conscientious, caring, compassionate young men I know...in the years since his salvation, in his adulthood, he has been passionately involved in the ministry of our Lord in different capacities. As a one on one, hands on, in the jail ministry, in community, area, home, church and foreign mission trips to reach others for Christ while at the same time realizing there are material and medical needs that need to be met and providing the needs as our Lord showed us. Many times these needs are/were met from his own private family income. When I speak of James, please know that our niece, his wife, is of same character and heart, The young daughter who they adopted is Mayan, one of numerous children from one family he came across where the single mother was not able to care for and he and his wife began the process for adoption.
At the same time James provided home, appliances/furnishings which would make it easier on the mother and other family members. He continues to see that she is provided for and does not live in squalor. The young daughter is now in the second grade and is a delight to know and to her family. James also has grown children and grandchildren who love and support him in his passion. They are all a very dedicated moral Christian family. He worked in a local power plant working his way up to supervision, until the business of his wife seemed to be where he felt he was needed. Her business had prospered by her providing quality honest, dependable work . This is a characteristic of that family, realizing they are accountable to God for how they treat people. In light of his firm faith and beliefs and moral character he is torn terribly by this loss of life....
God Bless, with love,
Sis/Mom/Ganny
In case of what? A break in? At least he had the wisdom to put his daughter's life in jeopardy too.
>Interesting that the ethnicity of the "teens" (youths) was not mentioned.<
I found that to be interesting also.
"You must be a better cook than I am!"
I doubt it. I was referring to the poor response times from the local police dept. Of course they get 99 false alarms to every 1 actual. IMO, an alarm keeps 80% of the bad guys away as they opt for neighbors without alarms. They also serve as a wake up in case someone does decide to come in. Thats about it.
The kids were all caught (or killed). There is no BOLO, therefore, the race doesn't matter. Just curious, what race were you hoping for?
I'd say that neighborhood should be safer for a while...
What race was he hoping for?Probably black or Latino, preferable one whose immigration status was in question.
Yet they were CAUCASIAN!Imagine THAT.White kids burglarizing homes.I'm shocked,I tell ya,just SHOCKED!
I wasn't hoping for anything, but previous journalistic patterns usually dictate that no mention of that fact is a red flag for a possible un-PC "hate crime". I was just making that observation.
Do you want me to say that I'm glad that it was some white boys getting themselves into trouble? Thugs are thugs.
Well, this should be interesting.
Also, I believe that you will find it easier to communicate with adults if you learn to write in complete sentences, and to spell correctly.
May God fill your life with His superabundant Grace.
Good Day.
I doubt you even knew them, I think you are a troll. But just in case, you will be much better off in the long run if you choose friends who are not criminals. Find a better group to hang with!
It went bye-bye.
