I like your idea to disallow the employer tax deduction. But I would go further. Since illegals typically earn low wages and no benefits (which is the essence of their appeal to employers), disallowing the tax deduction for individual SS mismatches would be a mere minor cost of doing business. Employers could still come out ahead.
But what if there were a minimum tolerance level for the number of mismatches? Any employer with SS mismatches exceeding 5% of their workforce would trigger an immediate freeze on all payroll associated tax deduction AND be subject to a mandatory tax audit. Double-barrel incentive to be compliant...especially the audit. Anyone willing to play fast and loose with the laws on hiring is apt to feel the same way about their bookkeeping. Even if they don't fear ICE, I bet the IRS would get their attention.
They're going to be put under a lot of pressure after the election, I'll bet even more than they are now. Look for some CAFTA-like arm twisting big time.
'No help from the feds or IRS in tracking down these criminals.'
A class action suit should be filed against the Federal government in the name of all wronged parties who have been victimized by these illegals ...we citizens have not received 'equal protection', perhaps...
I am with you.
I believe the mere whiff of enforcement and penalties would send probably 60% of illegals back over the border for good, with their dollars and tvs and prada handbags clutched in their little hands...
kinda like looters running home with their prizes...when the opportunity strikes, grab it, and then beat it when the heat gets turned up...they would be royalty back in their neighborhoods...
I don't know about you, but I'm about "illegaled" out. I've read tons of illegal threads and it seems that just about anything that can be said, has been said. I've sent emails to the President, my congress critters, and my local newspaper.
I'm exhausted! ---lol
According to an interview by ?Hannity? of one of the administration officials, there has already been a 21% (I believe) drop in illegal crossings in the last month - since the mere threat of more border enforcement.
first of all, it's not my idea.
I agree that it is only a first step, though.
Unadulterated Bravo Sierra.
That is not accurate; there has been a drop in apprehensions, no one knows the number of illegal crossers so there is no way to know if the number changes. The media as usual is using deceptive words.
There are other factors that would have to be taken into account to know if the number of apprehensions has changed due to "more border enforcement" or if it is the annual drop we see due to the heat in the desert. (crossings normally decline during the hot days of summer)
By more enforcement if you mean the National Guard; at least in my area they are barely arriving and organizing, so it is too soon to see what effect they will have. I think they may have psychological effect, doubt they will make a real difference. There will be rumors in Mexico that our military will shoot illegals or something crazy like that, but word will soon get around that they are not shooting people and that they are no more fierce than BP (due to ROE) then it will be business as usual.
The president rightly got praise he deserved for the WOT. I said he deserved the bump in the polls. But if he thinks he can use that to push amnesty he is DEAD wrong. Those polls will fall right back down again.
"President Bush has put forward ... a bunch of BULLSHIT on 'immigration' - period."

Thanks for the ping bitt. We've had all the laws, if they would just enforce them!
It's amnesty.

You're probably correct.
There has probably been more like a 40% drop in illegal crossings if there has been a 21% drop in apprehensions.
I have noticed no decline in crossers in my area, but if it makes you happy to believe there has been one I guess that's what counts for you.
I guess you think you know more about the Mexican border than I, after all you get your info from the trusty media and politicians. Even though you are in New York and I am 7 miles from the border, I must be the one that doesn't have a clue.
I don't have to get my info from the media or anyone else- all I need to do is look out my kitchen window to know if border policies are working.
It is great that you have such perfect knowledge about what is going on over the thousand miles of border since you're seven miles from it.
I would love for you to give us all a daily total of the number of illegals you see crossing, in addition to the number of illegals you know must have crossed.
This thread would be a great place for you to start this daily diary for us! Even though it won't let us know what the numbers are compared to a month ago or a year ago, at least we'll be able to see the progress or lack of it from this time forward.
Isn't he ashamed to stand up and spout such crap to the American people when we know well that "they needed to" start enforcing immigration laws YEARS AGO?
Even if they intended to start enforcement (they don't), everyone knows that they're several years late and several billion dollars short (paid by us). Pure BS!
