VANITY: Defeat the leftist lies that Al Qaeda wasn't in Iraq before the war
Various News and Govermental Sources ^ | June 14, 2006 | Peach

Posted on 06/14/2006 8:52:58 AM PDT by Peach

Two major issues were used by the President in the run up to war with Iraq. One was the WMD issue and the other was Iraq's support for Al Qaeda.

Since the war began in March 2003, the Democrats and media have repeatedly lied to the American public that Saddam didn't have a relationship with Al Qaeda or Osama bin Laden. They have been permitted to lie without challenge by Congressional Republicans or the President or his administration.

It is well past time that we educate Republican Congressmen and the conservative media, and try to encourage Tony Snow and Karl Rove on the importance of not letting this lie go unchallenged.

Since the 1990's, the media wrote dozens and dozens of articles about the world's alarm at the growing relationship Saddam and Iraqi military officers had with Al Qaeda and bin Laden. In the next post, I will detail some of those links.

Additionally, our very own freeper, translator and national treasure, jveritas, has translated documents which show that Saddam had direct ties to the Taliban in Afghanistan.

It is my firm belief that if more Americans knew about the relationships discussed above, support for the war and our beloved military would increase substantially. The media has gotten away with this lie for long enough.

I am looking for specific suggestions on how to get the word out to the administration with the suggestion they use this evidence of a relationship between Saddam and the jihadists more often, and how to directly write or call our Congressmen, the media, Ken Mehlman as Chair of the GOP, talk radio hosts, etc.

The left have discredit Laurie Mylroie.

If I use Mylroie's articles to back up my point...they call her a crazy lady.
"She's apart of the neo-cons who wanted to go to war with Iraq."

But the lady makes alot of sense.
Didn't she work with Judith Miller on a book?

Didn't the 911 Families sue the Iraqi Intelligence and al Queda? What happen to that case?

When the left tells you that Laurie Mylroie is discredited, ask them why. She was one of Clinton's anti-terrorism czars.

All of these articles and sources need to be sent out to Representatives and Senators of blue and red stripes. Inform the media that they need to show the correct side not just the biased liberal anti-American side. Keep the pressure up!

To FELLOW FREEPERS
I have a 400 point timeline (that took me over 2 years to complete)of links between Iraq and al Qaeda (chronological order by actual events NOT by when stories were written). I've been sitting on it for a while trying to get it published in a major magazine. Apparently it is too large to do so but I want everyone to see and know this information. IF you have suggestions how to expose this please private mail me.

Well, Laurie Mylroie is my hero.

Even though she was Clinton's anti-terrorism czar...the left claims she is a neo-con who can't be trusted because she sided with the Bush team.

I really like reading Laurie Mylroie articles but she's been real quite. The left has done a good job smearing her creditablity and making her into a crackpot. During the 911 Commission, the press totally ignored her comments. You have to dig through 911 web page to read her testimony. Makes you sick!

Strange thing is she has credentials to back her up.

"She has a doctorate in Political Science from Harvard University and was employed in the Government Department there. She was an associate professor at the U.S. Naval War College, and advisor on Iraq to Bill Clinton in his 1992 campaign for President.

She is now an adjunct fellow at the American Enterprise Institute."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laurie_Mylroie

She's no fool and I think she's 100% correct about everything. I even believe OKC Bombing theory. Why not?
Tim McVeigh's ilk hated the United States Government and so did Islamofacist.

Richard Clarke also came up with this theory too.

After Kurdish forces took control of Iraq's three northern provinces following the government's withdrawal in October 1991, numerous opposition groups operated in the region. Islamist political forces in Iraqi Kurdistan, which are exclusively Sunni Muslim, were represented in the Islamic Movement in Kurdistan (IMK), established in 1987. The IMK brought together several factions, some of whose members had fought in Afghanistan during the 1980s. By the mid-1990s the IMK was considered the third most significant political and military force in the Kurdish region, after the KDP and the PUK. After unsuccessfully contesting the 1992 parliamentary elections, the IMK operated largely outside the framework of the joint Kurdish administration, focusing instead on developing and strengthening a separate administrative, political and military infrastructure in areas under its control, notably in Hawraman and Sharazur, which bordered the region controlled by the PUK. In December 1993 tensions between the IMK and the PUK peaked in armed clashes in parts of Sulaimaniya and Kirkuk provinces. The IMK was forced to retreat to areas close to the border with Iran. The leadership left the eastern region altogether and for some months remained under KDP protection in Salahuddin. When increasing tensions between the KDP and the PUK deteriorated into armed clashes in May 1994, IMK forces fought alongside the KDP against the PUK. Eventually, the IMK leadership was able to return to its strongholds in Hawraman and Sharazur, and to establish its headquarters in the city of Halabja.

The IMK splintered over power struggles as well as policy differences. In May 2001 'Ali Bapir, a long-time IMK military commander, announced the formation of the Islamic Group in Iraqi Kurdistan.

Several smaller factions within the IMK, which espoused a more puritanical and ultra-orthodox Islamic ideology, also broke away from the movement at different times. Some opposed any form of cooperation with "secular" political parties and disagreed with the IMK's 1997 decision to participate in the PUK regional government. They also called for stricter application of the shari'a (Islamic law) in IMK-held areas.

Of these factions, the most important militarily was a group known as the Soran Forces. It consisted of several hundred armed fighters (said to include non-Iraqi Arabs), some of who had fought in Afghanistan. A second faction was the Islamic Unification Movement (IUM, or al-Tawhid), said to be the most extremist of the splinter groups. Composed of some thirty or forty individuals, the IUM based itself for a time in Balek, in the Qandil mountains near Haj Omran and close to the Iran border. A third group, Hamas, also opposed the IMK's decision to participate in the PUK regional government. Among its stated aims was to launch attacks on secular institutions in Iraqi Kurdistan, including Western humanitarian and relief organizations.

The emergence of Ansar al-Islam

These smaller breakaway factions themselves gradually merged. In July 2001, al-Tawhid joined with Hamas to form the Islamic Unity Front (IUF), which the Soran Forces also joined the following month. On September 1, 2001, the IUF was dissolved and its three component groups announced the formation of Jund al-Islam. The group promptly declared jihad (holy war) against secular and other political parties in Iraqi Kurdistan deemed to have deviated from the "true path of Islam". Following armed clashes in which the PUK defeated Jund al-Islam, the group was dissolved in December 2001 and renamed Ansar al-Islam. A long-time member of the IMK, Najmuddin Faraj Ahmad, known as Mala Fateh Krekar, became its amir (leader).

Ansar al Islam, which operates in northeastern Iraq, has close links to and support from al-Qaida. Al-Qaida and Usama Bin Laden participated in the formation and funding of the group, which has provided safehaven to al-Qaida in northeastern Iraq.

The group's fighters are also believed to have trained with al-Qaida and U.S. officials suspect it of helping hide al-Qaida members fleeing Afghanistan.

Just right click on the pic and choose "save picture as" and you'll have a copy, too. I think I have a different shot also, and I plan on looking tomorrow on my other computer.

On a completely different topic, I was looking into the connection of Osama and the attempt to blow up a nuclear reactor during the 2000 Olympics in Sydney. I don't want to hijack Peach's thread, however, I have in-laws in Australia. Some are pro-America and some are openly hostile. The ones that are pro-America told me right after 9/11 that Osama had tried to blow up a nuclear reactor in downtown Sydney. These in-laws visited Bali just before the attack on Australians vacationing there. I found a lot of info online, but have not heard many references to this foiled "dirty bomb" nuclear attempt on the 2000 Olympics. Here is a link for your future reference: LINK Note that this is before the attack on America for those on the left that think "America had it coming".

Thanks for all of the links. I put the handling of this issue right up there with the retraction of the 16 words in the SOTU (Plame mess) when it comes to administration mysteries that I would like to unravel.

Some, like Laurie Mylroie, would say that they have been silenced by a rogue element in the CIA. If they are right then you are exactly on target here, Peach. We have to be the ones who make this an issue. This has to get a life independent of the administration.

I'm writing to Hoekstra to start. He's the one who wanted the documents released...and he's in a position to start an investigation.

"The 1950s-vintage nuclear reactor in Sydney is not a power plant. It is used for scientific and medical research"

The reasoning not a plant? and "The Games" mean money, so let's not scare the tourists scenario? However, this shows bin Laden was under surveillance.

A number of transnational Islamist terrorist groups, including the Al-Qaeda of Osama bin Laden, have established a presence in Bangladesh in alliance with the various fundamentalist organisations in the country. Osma bin Laden donates funds to the Pakistan-based terrorist outfit Harkat-ul-Mujahideen (HuM), which has contacts with the Dhaka-based Bangladesh Harkat-ul-Jihad-e-Islami (HuJ). The HUJ was established with the aid of Osama Bin Laden in 1992.

The covert activities of Osama bin Laden and the Al-Qaeda came to the fore during the visit of the then United States President, Bill Clinton, to Bangladesh in March 2000. One of the reasons for the cancellation of President Clinton's scheduled visit to Joypura village and the national memorial at Savan was due to the threats that emanated from the Al-Qaeda.

A number of terrorist groups, both regional organizations such as the Abu Sayyaf Group and transnational groups such as Osama bin Laden's Al-Qaeda network were under critical surveillance during the Sydney Olympics for possible acts of terrorism.

Perhaps Iraq and 'Doofus Mole-in-a-Hole' Saddam was an easier road to do battle than Iran, was the thought then..

Excerpts from http://www.satp.org/satporgtp/usa/international_links.htm

March 1991, Iran dispatched several terrorist squads to Canada for operations in the U.S., both independently and in support of local networks. One of these hit teams would assassinate Mrs. Rafizadeh, the wife of a senior intelligence official of the Shah's regime, in New Jersey on March 26, 1992. A milestone in the emergence of Islamist terrorism in the U.S. took place on October 18, 1991. The International Terrorist Summit convened in Tehran decided on a rejuvenated Jihad in the U.S. as part of the Iranian-led pan-Islamist strategy of confronting Pax-Americana.

From December 1992 through January 1993, Iran conducted a strategic test of the entire concept of a US operation. Former foreign minister Ibrahim Yazdi arrived on a secret mission with a reconciliation initiative at the same time that Tehran transmitted through back channels an explicit threat of "war between the SAVAMA and the CIA." Yazdi's initiative was rebuffed. On January 24, 1993, Mir Aimal Kansi, a Pakistani Iranian agent, killed several people at the entrance to the CIA headquarters in Langley, Virginia, demonstrating that Tehran was serious. From January 22-26, 1993, Tehran further tested the U.S. reaction system in the form of phone calls from the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine threatening to blow up a skyscraper in New York.

Assumed: Since there was no special reaction from Washington, Tehran concluded that terrorist operations should proceed as planned.

Ali Mohammed, 48, an ex-US Army Sergeant of Egyptian origin pleaded guilty before a US District Judge in October 2000 to a charge of plotting with Osama bin Laden to kill Americans anywhere in the world. He also admitted that he had helped in secretly moving bin Laden from Pakistan to Sudan and trained members of his Al Qaeda outfit. Pakistan and Afghanistan-based Islamist terrorists have recruited members from the Muslim communities in North America as also the Caribbean Islands to utilise them for terrorist operations against US interests in West Asia and also for promoting Jehad in the US. Ramzi Ahmed Yousef of Pakistani origin and other US-based Muslim mercenaries of bin Laden were responsible for the explosion inside the World Trade Centre in February 1993.
