Panel: Churchill should be fired
Denver Post ^ | June 13, 2006 | Dan Elliott

Ward Churchill, the professor who called some of the World Trade Center victims “little Eichmanns,” should be fired because of “repeated and deliberate” infractions of scholarship rules, a University of Colorado committee said today.

The recommendation, which came on a 6-3 vote, now goes to university officials for a final decision.

SWEET Ann Coulter takes another look at the Ward Churchill controversy:

Tenure was supposed to create an atmosphere of open debate and inquiry, but instead has created havens for talentless cowards who want to be insulated from life.

Rather than fostering a climate of open inquiry, college campuses have become fascist colonies of anti-American hate speech, hypersensitivity, speech codes, banned words and prohibited scientific inquiry.

Even [leftists] don't try to defend Churchill on grounds that he is Galileo pursuing an abstract search for the truth.

They simply invoke "free speech," like a deus ex machina to end all discussion. Like the words "diverse" and "tolerance," "free speech" means nothing but: "Shut up, we win."

Remember

this is the exalted HIGHER EDUCATION at work in this country.

" When one of his students, a Mandan-Hidatsa Indian, wrote a piece raising doubts about his claimed biography, he dropped her grade from an A to a C-minus."

There were hundreds of fellow professors who took out large newspaper ads and marched in support of Ward, earlier.

These fellow travelers are now silent.

Now is the time to speak up. They should ask Ward, for the good of the University and for the good of academia, to resign. Unless, these fellow travelers also practice plagiarism, etc.

Of course, Ward will never resign and admit to being a fraud.

It is not enough that a small handful note Ward's corruption.

Where is the outrage ?

Ward is just the tip of the iceberg. The problems below Ward are huge.

Actually they have to do this by the book. One mistake and the university is in court and the plaintiff wins. Then he has to be reinstated with back-pay.

SO take you time, make sure that you have all your paperwork in order, the i's dotted and the t's crossed. Then fire his sorry ass.

I think this is a good time to play REM's "It's been a Bad Day, please don't take my picture..."

I'm sure Harvard has some openings.

Isn't there an opening in Lawrence, KS?

"From the point of view of an academic, what he did is absolutely the worst sin you can be condemned of..."

Yes, and isn't it 'interesting' in light of this that THREE members of the panel could not vote to recommend his termination!! Even with such a fair and thorough report documenting his severe transgressions there are still plenty of academics who would let him off with a slap on the wrist. His misconduct should earn him the "death penalty" for any further academic career, if the academy is to maintain any reasonable standards at all, but he will probably insinuate himself elsewhere within a couple of years, after milking the speaker circuit for his $20K fees (which come out of the pockets of parents and students paying the "activities fees" etc. at so many universities).
