That's all?????????? LOL!!! Just pulling your leg. I collect cookbooks and have over 200. And I use them all (not at one time of course).

Cooking is a bit of a passion with me....some would call it an obsession. And thus I have a hard time with folks who claim they can't cook....to me it is just a matter of being too lazy to bother trying. There was a time I couldn't cook, so I learned. To this day I still occassionally have to ditch something that I had been working on....but it doesn't deter me.

I agree with you. It seems more important to most parents to keep their kids in organized things (sports, music) than spending time at home with the family. These are good things in themselves, but when they come to substitute for family time at home, they can get to be destructive. Home cooked meals usually also mean dinners together. Research has been showing that success in school is more closely associated with eating meals as a family than any other one factor. And the health of the family is a major responsibility of the parents in my opinion, too. Home-cooked meals do not have to be elaborate. My daugher used to get them when I raised her as a single parent and had a very demanding full-time job. I just learned how to cook my own fast (but good-quality) food. Lots of soups and raw veggies... We loved it!

Thanks! I'll give it a try and let you know how it goes. I don't have much of a food education--let's just say my grandmother would consistently make "healthy" cookies for us kids by substituting butter with fat-free spread.

One of my favorite chickens to make is the Roast Sticky Chicken. Great, if you ever have about five hours that you'll be hanging around the house. The chicken is stuffed with onions. The naked chicken gets a massage with seasonings. Then, it goes into the oven for five hours at 250 degrees

We've been trying to move for years. I keep packing things up to go to storage. If not for that, we would have many, many more! Our cookbooks won't go until we put the house on the market. Actually, I've been wanting to buy software to put our favorite recipes in and key it to ingredients so that we can use ingredients that we need to get rid of. I used to cook, but my husband took that responsibility away from me when we got married. And I got lazy--I used my extra time to read, my other love! Now that he can't cook as creatively as he did at one time b/c of diabeties, I've told him he needs to tinker with sauces and dressings to find good things without all the junk that diabetics can eat.

You have a good point about substitution of organized activities for family time. We've put limits on what our daughter does. She is currently doing just Little League and Brownies.....that is more than enough outside activity for a 2nd grader, IMO.

She already knows how to make pie crust and pasta from scratch, as well as apple sauce, tomato sauce and jelly. She and her best friend are going to learn how to can veggies this summer.

If you are watching Dr. Phil, you have some significant problems of your own. Do you honestly need someone to tell you how to live life? Do you have a problem with deciding between right and wrong?

I know all about that putting stuff in storage to move routine. When we decided to move, I made the mistake of packing away the vast majority of my cookbooks and only kept the ones I use on a regular basis.........unfortunatley it took us 3 years to sell our house and move. In that period of time, I kept acquiring more and more cookbooks. We've lived here 3 years now and it was only a month or so ago my husband found the box that had the last of my cookbooks. Now I need another book case :)

Both recipezaar.com and epicurious.com let you create a cookbook (with recipes from the sites) that you can key to ingredients or manner of preparation. And if I remember correctly, one of the preps includes dietary considerations.
