we will see, floppy disks worked great and i never heard of someone scratching one.
Did'nt get out much? Floppy cases were cheaply constructed (for obvious reasons) and would break in ways that ruined the media.
BetaRay is dead before it ships. Sony has repeatedly pissed off many early adopters. I will not send another dollar Sonys way untill Sony execs are locked up for computer crimes.
BTW just by using decent compression you can get a 1040p movie onto a conventional single layer DVD. Hacks are already available to make component output DVD players play HD content burned onto a DVD.

hopefully i will be able to skip blueray and HD-dvd and go right to holographic :D
Two weeks ago I placed an order for a new $3999.00 Samsung 56 inch DLP 1080p TV just so I can play the PS3 and Blue-ray in its native format. I already have xBox 360. One of these days Sony will win a format war. However I think the 2 formats (HD and Blue ray) will be available in the same player.
Sony has a horrible reputation for "orphan" formats.
Their digital camerals were essentially "non existant" because of the ridiculous memory stick UNTIL they created an SD chip adpater for memory stick.
It really hurts the brand name "sony" when you associate it with yet another blunder.
I don't see "blue ray" being very market smart despite any tech advantage. This the same problem apple faces year in and year out.
You're fighting a losing battle here. Just don't scratch the DVD! If you personally want a case, then you can put the DVD back in the case when you're done using it.
