David Thomson and Jim Bourassa of the Quantum AetherDynamics Institute (QADI) released a new theory which mathematically predicts and explains the measured values of physics with striking precision. Their Aether Physics Model includes the "Holy Grail" of physics sought by Albert Einstein; the Unified Force Theory. "Our model shows the forces are unified by a simple set of general laws explainable as the fabric of space-time itself, which is a dynamic, quantum-scale Aether," said Bourassa.
In February 2002, Thomson was observing a peculiar setup of a Tesla coil and noticed what appeared to be two distinctly different manifestations of charges. Not finding an adequate explanation for why charge should take on two different forms, Thomson decided to re-examine the foundations of quantum physics. Within three weeks, he discovered the simple, empirically based equations, which produce the Unified Force Theory. "This new model of quantum existence does not change the laws of Quantum Mechanics, it merely changes our view of quantum structure," Thomson said.
"I placed an ad on my website for someone to develop the mathematics for a Unified Field Theory based upon the Aether," said Bourassa. "David said he not only could do it, but already had." Since then, they joined together to form QADI, a registered 501(c)3 non-profit research organization devoted to the development and dissemination of the Aether Physics Model, published Secrets of the Aether, a book about the theory, and released a new white paper that summarizes the theory, A New Foundation for Physics, which is available online at www.16pi2.com/files/NewFoundationPhysics.pdf.
Infinite Energy Magazine will be publishing the white paper this fall. "We just received our first acknowledgement," said Thomson. "Because we are self-educated and this revolutionary discovery about the mathematics and geometry of the space-time fabric is not coming from a well-known scientific organization, it has been slow to gain acceptance, despite the stunning results the theory produces," he continued. The fabric of space-time Thomson refers to is the ubiquitous Aether, long discarded by modern science. According to Albert Einstein's Special Relativity theory, there cannot be a rigid Aether, as envisioned by Albert Michelson. However, Thomson and Bourassa's quantified Aether is fluid, as recently proposed in the December 2005 issue of Scientific American by Theodore Jacobson and Renaud Parentani.
Besides the Unified Force Theory, QADI has also developed the foundation for an atomic binding energy equation, an electron binding energy equation, a conductance constant, fine structure constants for the proton and neutron, and geometrical models for photons, subatomic particles, and quantum units of space-time. These are significant accomplishments, and should be receiving close attention from scientists and researchers. The theory is testable, coherent, mathematically derived, empirically based, and uses easy-to-understand Newtonian equations.
Along with providing more precise values for the Strong Nuclear Charge and Weak Nuclear Relationship, three other measurements where they predict a slightly different value than the Standard Model are in the Casimir equation, the neutron magnetic moment, and neutron g-factor. More accurate experiments should confirm which values are correct, which could verify the validity of the Aether Physics Model.

Placed an ad on his website? That should be a giveaway right there.
Wonder if these guys are affiliated with the Raelians.
I'm not promoting for these guys. If I hadn't come across this at a respected news source, I would have ignored it.
Didn't some Nigerian guy produce a unified theorem a couple of years ago? Whatever happened to that?
And what's with publishing this in the fall? What, they can't just email it now? Do they have some PR campaign to accomplish first?
I don't mean to be cynical, but this 'Holy Grail equation' industry is suspect to me.
I believe the Nigerian guy lost interest in physics when he found out he could make more money thru email scams.
unless this unified theory ALSO explains where the disappearing sock goes (AND how to get it back), I'm not buying it.
No one is more suspicious than I am. (Besides, I plan to disclose a working model of my time machine tomorrow, on 6/6/6.)
HA! 666... Like I posted on another thread, the blood of Jesus is my weapon. Satan needs to be worried about me.
But back to the subject- this happens every so often, doesn't it? Some guys come out with a Master Theory and hit the promo circuit? I suppose it could happen with anything- cold fusion, free energy, etc.
The ads in the back pages of Mother Earth News or Popular Machanics are always fun to read.
Your socks are in the hozone layer.
Why does Paris Hilton take my socks?
(but how can I get them BACK?)
;)
LOL!!
Hmmmmn.
If it works, why haven't you done it tomorrow already?
Life is to short to read his "theory". I stopped at "Within three weeks, he discovered the simple, empirically based equations, which produce the Unified Force Theory." It has all the signs of a crackpot.
Layer, layer, socks on fire.....
(Or are we still disgusting Paris' situation?)
Wow! that's some neat trick.
"This new model of quantum existence does not change the laws of Quantum Mechanics, it merely changes our view of quantum structure," Thomson said."
Oh good! As long as they are happy. [He sez eyes glazed in incomprehension, assuming something momentous has occured]
Check in the arms of shirts and the legs of pants that you've not worn in a long time (i.e. those you've packed away till next winter).
to keep her ankles warm, of course
Thomson decided to re-examine the foundations of quantum physicsIt's about time somebody did that. Everybody talks about quantum mechanics, but nobody does anything about it.
sounds vacuus to me.
If you drive a Quantum, it's always hard to find a good mechanic.
Good explanation for gravity (ie. there isn't one.)
Is this a parody?

I have the same problem and have long suspected that there is a "worm hole" in the laundry room.
Why is it always Telsa Coils?
The guy who says "let's get ready to rummmble!" should be announcing this.
Sounds like a load of crap, we'll see
bump
At least he comes right out and admits he's weird. All the signs of a certified nut ball are in place though.
I'm still gonna read that white paper though.
Then again, Einstein was a patent clerk with communist leanings. Michio Kaku and Stephen Hawking aren't exactly "normal" either.
I don't mind that he said "aether." I do mind that he mentioned "aether" as a class of object of which the fabric of our space-time is one and we should all know what he means.
But I haven't read another thing past that. It's no fun guessing if you don't commit out loud before reading on, I say.
Uh-huh.

Upon traversing a black hole, and discovering a planet in another dimension; Ren and Stimpy found all the missing left socks. As far as I know they didn't return with the socks.

Be very careful about this. If they are not doing statistical mechanics they are operating at an undergrad level.
"Eurekalert" is generally a good source. But it has a pay-to-publish aspect. I looked into it some time ago so details are hazy--but for a couple of thousand dollars, you can become a member and you get certain substantial privileges in terms of moving out your press releases.
Is there a problem with this scenario? ... They have developed "quantum units of space-time" derived through "easy-to-understand Newtonian equations".
Within three weeks, he discovered the simple, empirically based equations, which produce the Unified Force Theory.
One the one hand, they claim they have a theory that "predicts" physical constants, but on the other hand, they state they discovered "empirically based" equations on which their theory is based. If the empirically based equations have fundamental physical constants implicitly embedded within them, it should come as no surprise that they can then use them to "predict" the fundamental physical constants to a high degree of precision. It's no prediction at all, but but rather regurgitating what was already implicitly buried in the empirical data. The Holy Grail that physicists have been after is an explanation that predicts the physical constants based on theoretical considerations, not regurgitating them post hoc.
The classic case of a theory predicting an experimental outcome is something like Einstein's e=mc2, based on theoretical constructs, and experiments or observations showing that the data match the prediction. Einstein's prediction of the perihelion precession of Mercury using his General Theory of Relativity is another example. It sounds like what these guys did is the equivalent to measuring the precession in the perihelion of Mercury, then fit the data to some equations ("empirically derived"), and then announce that they have discovered a wonderful "theory" that correctly predicts the precession in the perihelion of Mercury! Where's the explanatory model?
The other thing that smoked my BS meter is the fact they are publishing their findings in "Infinite Energy" instead of a respected peer-reviewed physics journal. My guess is these guys are a bunch of "Ether-freaks" -- folks on the fringe of physics who have been chafing for over a century in their zeal to restore the Ether to it's former glory after it was derailed by Michelson and Morely, among others.
They reappear as unused metal coat hangers in your closet.
Mine too. I'm amazed, however, at where this article appeared. I had always assumed that EurekAlert.com only reports peer-reviewed results, or -- at worst -- press releases from reputable labs. I don't understand this situation at all.
"I'm still gonna read that white paper though."
Thanks. The theory is coherent.
"Then again, Einstein was a patent clerk with communist leanings. Michio Kaku and Stephen Hawking aren't exactly "normal" either."
Thanks again, I think.
I will be the first to admit the claims I make are something I wouldn't believe if I heard them from someone else. It took me a long time to accept what I was seeing in the math. You need to realize this new paradigm is based upon new perspectives that all charge is distributed and that there are two distinctly different manifestations of charges. These charges are quantifiable and derived from first principles. Everything in this theory is rooted in empirical data.
As for being called a crank or crackpot, if that turns people on, go for it. The theory has to speak for itself. If you can find an error in the math or someplace where the wrong data was used, let me know. After four years, nobody has found any such errors. Maybe you will be the first.
There are several qualified physicists who have reviewed the theory and found that it is sound, although unconventional. Perhaps one of the best things going for the Unified Force Theory is that no one else has yet found a quantifiable Unified Force Theory that incorporates the Newton and Coulomb force laws.
Someone at the AAAS should be pretty embarrassed about this, because it looks like they were taken in by a couple of cranks.
It smelled funny to me (aether theory??) - just to make sure, I checked the SPIRES database for publications by either of the primary 'authors' - there are no publications by Jim Bourassa; there are publications by a David Thomson (or multiple David Thomsons), but nothing related to any of the work claimed in this article, and nothing between 2001 and 2005. (SPIRES is a good, public reference for high energy physics archives - any authors in either theory or experiment conducting worthwhile research in this field would most likely be linked in their database.)
I also looked at the paper in the link for a few minutes - nothing more complicated than high school algebra, and nothing even making the slightest reference to common phemonena known about the fundamental forces.
"Established physics does not recognize the strong charge of the electron," quotes the paper. Well, 'established physics' tends not to recognize things that can be experimentally shown to not exist. It also states that, according to physics, the "weak interaction of [the] electron is not recognized", which is completely false; so false that it's by itself a dead giveaway as to the lack of knowledge of the authors.
My prognosis: complete crackpots. I sincerely hope someone at EurekAlert gets a sharp smack on the wrist for this. (Really, this is pretty bad.)
