With just five months to go before the midterm elections, President Bush, whose once-faithful base has abandoned him in droves, is turning to the same conservative hot-button issues that won him re-election in 2004 -- homosexual "marriage" and judicial nominees. The president, now fully aware that his plummeting approval ratings could cost the Republicans control of one or both congressional chambers in November, will use his radio address today and a speech Monday to push a constitutional amendment banning same-sex "marriage," just as the Senate prepares to vote on the issue. The crux of his argument is simple: A majority of Americans support the idea that marriage is exclusively between a man and a woman, and activist judges across the country are thwarting the will of the people.

" The crux of his argument is simple: A majority of Americans support the idea that marriage is exclusively between a man and a woman, and activist judges across the country are thwarting the will of the people."
Absolute correct, Mr. President and this is a very important issue and one we Conservatives support and commend you for.
However, what about a much more pressing--and a much more vital to our security, if not the survival of our nation as we know it--issue, and that being of securing our borders? NOW!
With all due respect, Mr. President (and you too Mr. Guru, Rove) if you want to grab onto an issue which would send your approval ratings "SOARING" (in a New York minute) all you would have to do is to all of a sudden have an epiphany and explain to the public that you are going to support the House Bill and (seriously) work towards "sealing" our borders and plan on doing so before the end of the year--regardless of the cost and regardless of the consequences (most notably, your friendship with El Presidente Fox).
Of course we Conservatives want (and expect) you to nominate more conservative judicial nominees
"Democrats will make a huge mistake if they're too partisan and refuse to give us a hearing on the nominees. So it's not even the vote that matters, it's what Democrats do when the nominations come in," the former official said."
"If Democrats move to squelch the nominations, the president plans to hammer home the split on core values between the two parties in an attempt to woo back his base."
You know what? I believe you are on the right track here, Mr. President and this "strategy" (one of putting the onus squarely where it belongs--with the obstructionists and liberal opposition) is brilliant.
Of course, Mr. President, will you (and your spokespersons) "hammer" Republican Liberals/Moderates RINOS(you know, McCain, Chafee, Shay, et al) who will oppose you as well?
And, Mr. President, if this "strategy" you intend to employ is one which you believe is going to be advantageous and help improve you favor ability among your base (and I believe it will) WHY NOT utilize it in the immigration issue, or, perhaps, we are not misguied or in error, when myself and many others "suggest" that you are NOT sincere when you speak of "securing" the borders and could care less about the dire consequences this Nation will suffer as a result of the Senate Bill which you so wholeheartedly endorse and support?
Finally, while we Conservatives are extremely disappointed in so many areas and issues you have supported (or conversely not supported);and while many of us are criticize and condemn, we have NOT forsaken you or the Republican Partywhich unfortunately, is the ONLY viable political party which closely reflects our views.
The question remains: Have you, Mr. President, forsaken not only your base, but the rest of the Conservative Americans who supported and voted for you?
I agree with you 100%. Gay marriage is an important issue, but it is not anywhere near the paramount issue for me. To gain back my approval and the approval of people like me the President has to change his stance on the borders and stop pushing one of the most destructive pieces of legislation this country has ever seen. Then he needs to do start to attack the out of control spending that we've seen under his administration. I'm sick of seeing him push new entitlements and government programs as the solution to almost everything and i'd love to see him wield that veto pen.
At least.
Overnight.
Bush must get tough on medical marijuana - big raids on cancer wards - perpwalks for paraplegics - yeah, that'll help his plunging approval polls.
Blah Blah... Sorry but the bigger issues are in play.. I for one give him the benefit of the doubt and so will history.... If the House and Senate do not provide the right legislation to deal with the illegals then maybe they should lose.. in the mean time I am 100 percent behind this President who by the way remains a true U.S. hero as history will judge...
When asked in 2004, what were the 3 main issues I had in the Presidential election, my answer was, and still is....Judges, judges, and judges.
Not to diminish any of the other issues, how many people were voting for "immigration reform" in 2004?????
we know the gay agenda msinly wants attention why give it to them, ignore the narcissistic activists
It's simply the wrong time for this sort of thing. With our gaping, wide open borders, pressure for amnesty, Iran about to go berserk, rampant corruption and spending, who cares about gay marriage right now? I mean really? This is something I agree with but it's not even on the radar right now.
I hope that was cathartic for you.
the right legislation to deal with the illegals ????
We have laws. Bush does not enforce them. And now he wants more legislation - more laws that he won't enforce. This ain't nuthin' but dogs and ponies.
Agree, it is a isuue that is waaaaay down the list. Borders, spending, and Iraq/Iran. The rest can wait.
Some of our are so pathetically easy to MANIPULATE.
It was. Was it "good for you too?" LOL
No matter the topic, they have to start their Bush bashing and thread hijacking.
Here they go again. They are so predictable, that even the alley drunks are catching on. The Republicans and Democrats are controlled by the same contributors and and do what they are told. They let us argue over religion, the English language and Homosexuals, but the money issues are theirs - even when they are selling out the country.
The Kavanaugh confirmation suggests that this year the Democrats don't intend to mount anything more than token opposition to judicial nominees.
It just saddens me to see how easily so many on our side get played like a fiddle.
The truth is, many of "our side" are really the opposition. Either they're liberals pretending to be conservatives or they're groups like the old Pat Buchanan Brigades that have been out to destroy the GOP since 1996.
lol. You're recycling that false dichotomy again? Isn't it hackneyed enough? At this point, we'd settle for, say, 40%, of a conservative agenda. You bots are desperate.
I'm not ussually a fan of Michael Savage, but he is spot on when he emphasizes the need to safeguard our borders, language and culture. If Bush would pick up on the simple fact that we want an English speaking country with secure borders and our American culture preserved his approval numbers would still be near 50%. Gay marriage is a part of this, but it's only a small aspect of a bigger picture and Bush doesn't seem to see that bigger picture.
Probably about the same amount who voted in 2000 to go into Afganistan.
GEEESH, the problem hadn't presented itself, but I voted for Bush as he represented the Law and Order party and I expect the Law to be upheld when the problems become so big that they have to be dealt with.
Hint, hint the laws are already on the books.
Is this nonsense spewing day for you? We're neither. GWB is destroying the GOP, as I said on here many times, to great screaming, since 2002.
Is that a time machine in your pocket or are you just happy to see me? You have no more of an idea how history will judge "W" than an ant does.
George W. Bush has been and is today a dunce when it comes to the illegal alien invasion issue. If he allows 10's of millions more illegal or legal Mexicans in to the US because he had a Mexican nanny when he was a kid he is likely to be seen as the president that killed America.
The illegal alien invasion issue appears to be to him what "no new taxes" or "the checkout scanner" was to his father. As far as I'm concerned the queers (<1% of the population) can get married every day if they like if the president shuts down the borders and stops the decay and expense brought by allowing Vincente Fox and the owners of Mexico to dump their poorest and most wretched here. Mexico should be taking care of their folks, not us.
Maybe someone should just drive the president around Houston or most other cities in Texas so he can see what's happening. I see that Texas Gov. Rick Perry wants to put cameras on the border to show the Mexicans coing across. Heck, all he needs to do is put them on the freeways now.
I'm tired of being taxed to support these folks. Send them back to their own countries.
Well, I set out my 'appeasement' criteria three years ago and they haven't changed any. The bar I set was rather low too, and Pres. Bush has still managed to meet just one of them. This is what they were: (1) Keep the economy from falling into recession .. check! (2) Win the war in Iraq .. bzzt! (3) Secure the borders .. bzzt!
For every thousand base voters Bush alienates he's picking up at least ten illegal votes. While it's hard to understand that logic, it must make sense to GWB/Rove.
Why can't we secure our borders right NOW?
If his approval drops further he'll probably get more conservative, might even look at that house bill, or get out that pen.
All you people are posting like you won't vote foe
President Bush in '08. That's the point, he don't
give a rats,...A%% what you or nyone else thinks about
polls or their numbers..take a big pole and stick it
qwhere the sun don't shine....HeeHaw....Jake
Not to diminish any of the other issues, how many people were voting for "immigration reform" in 2004?????
Judges (Conservative/Constructionist) are VERY important. However, won't you concede that the Illegal Alien issue is AS important?
After all, if we end up with the Bush/Senate version, what kind of country will we have (If at all) in 20 - 30 years from now?
Furthermore, what to say its all or one or the other? WHY NOT BOTH? Or all three (reducing the size of gov't)? Or, 4 (cutting spending)? etc.
You know, none of this is a "Zero sum Game!"
Although homosexual marriage is deplorable, several million homos did not take over our streets and threaten the social order of the nation during the past several months: Illegal aliens did. In other words, we have a bigger problem than the homogenda.
Jorge needs to get in touch with his Conservative side, if he still has one.
Because Bush doesn't really want too..that's why.
sw
OK good luck getting Hillary to see your side of the illegals argument.... I am quite sure W knows where he came from and understands the issue... Blame your congress people for not enacting the legislation you believe is correct. If he vetos a sound rational conservative bill then come talk to me until then you are just accepting and supporting the wedge issue that the Liberals drove in the conservative base...
and while he's at it why doesn't he cure cancer and solve the all the worlds problems then he'll get called the anti christ jeez...
Mis-direction.. a diversion.. IT WORKS..
The boy is distracting from the B.O.R.D.E.R..
AND he THINKS it will work.. it will among RINOs and other democrats..
The BASE will see even MORE clearly that amnesty and 20 "plus" million(or more) prospective democrats is what the President WANTS TO HAPPEN..
AS HE ACTIVELY takes the republican party apart bone by bone.. The man is butcher slicing the republican party as cleanly and accurately as if he knows exactly what hes doing..
Occams razor DEMANDS that he does.. But Denial of the faithful demands the turning of the head, you know, for the squeemish.. In five years republicans(if they are still republicans) will SPIT when they hear his name.. They laugh at Jimmah Carter but will SPIT when they the name George Bush.. By then the democrats will have found out George was their secret weapon.. He will be a HERO, to them...
Hillary however will never like him.. but then Hillary by then will be Empress..
The ungrateful wretch will think she was elected on her good looks.. and not because of 20 "plus" million(probably more) brand new democrats.. courtesy of George W. Bush.. Oh! and a few RINOS in Congress(Senate)..
Its not easy being a prophet...
There's nothing more important than conservative judicial appointments. And defense of religion and family are also vital.
Immigration is not first on my list. BUT . . . it's becoming more and more important as I watch Bush flout the will of the people, kick his base in the teeth, and refuse to do his duty to enforce our country's laws.
It's not only a question if immigration, it's also becoming an issue of whether the president is willing to sell out his country in return for donations from big business and factory farming.
He took an oath to uphold the laws of our country. It's time for him to realize that he cannot just throw that solemn oath of office into the garbage in return for campaign donations.
Just out of curiosity, my friend, what is your concept of the "right legislation?"
I also like and respect President Bush as a person, however, I am scared to death that if we don't secure our borders NOW (and it may already be too late) something terrible is going to happen.
It's shameful, isn't it?
Bump.
Opposition to what? Liberalism? Partyism?
Opposition as in Democrats/Liberals.
Yeah, right. As if the media manipulated both conservatives and republicans to vote for the dems in 2000 and 2004.
You should realize the media has no play in this fight between conservatives and the pubbies.
Despite the fact that they are enjoying our internal fight, they have nothing --- NOTHING --- to do with it.
He wishes. The illegal vote goes to Democrats, because they are the ones who overwhelmingly vote for government welfare benefits to illegals, and who provide cultural cover for illegals through their steady drone of 'multi-cultural' propaganda that gets tattoed onto the foreheads of liberals, dupes and students from coast to coast. At best, Republicans may get 25% of the votes of LEGAL aliens. Bush is the worst thing for the Republican Party since Nixon, though for different reasons.
This is frankly offensive and pathetically transparent. Bush is screwing us and the country on immigration and arrogantly believes his base is nothing more than little Pavlovian dogs that will reflexively vote the party line once the gay marriage button is pushed. It reminds of the democrats scaring senoir citizens every election season that republicans will cut social security.
The people spoke their wishes in California a few years back. What was it Prop 19 or something. Who shot down the people on that?
I do believe it was Judges.
I don't think we'll get this Bill. I think it was a "jerk the wool over the eyes" type of thing. They don't want the Bill, only the appearance of looking like they're doing something about it.
That doesn't mean I don't think the existing laws shouldn't be enforced, but as I said, I have little confidence in the present Judicial system to do the right thing either.
You probably played ostrich this year and burried your head in the sand. The millions of illegal aliens didn't take over our streets in 2003-2004. They did so this year. It is an issue now.

Ah, when you don't have much to say say "HILLARY!".
All Bush needs to do is instruct the appropriate agencies to enforce current laws. Or he could simply sign an executive order and do just about anything he wanted to.
Please don't mention Hillary again. It means nothing. And if you don't think the president of the United States could protect our borders tomorrow if he wanted to you are sadly mistaken. It's his damn job! He agreed it was his job. Here is a picture of him doing so:
Sad but telling that Bush is pushing the marriage issue from a position of weakness rather than strength. Is futile action on social issues planned for times of unpopularity, or is it a stupid coincidence?
Thanks for advice. I'll be sure to inform my parish priest.
Sorry, no shrink yet. Worked my way thru PTSD after NAM (and about 20 years) on my own, and think these issues are much less traumatic and emotional, that I believe I can deal with them myself.
But your right in one way, FR is an excellent way/place to vent and have some of your peers express their support and/or opposition to our opinions. And you know what they say about opinions . . . . ?
