The Senate bill gives a cover story to the supporters that they are voting for our security.

A security we'll never see.

By the way, Pence's move is combined with what I've seen, an opening campaign for President. He's doing it for the money. If he thinks the people will support his bill over a tough one he drank the Koolaid.

LOL!! Everyone who attempts to craft a solution out of the morass has some nefarious ulterior motive.

Only you "let's kick 'em all out" jihadists are pure and, by God, it's going to be your way or the highway.

That's why congresspeople like Tancredo are peter-principled out in his current position: he'd rather go up in flames than try to actually get something passed.

My message to my representatives from Idaho in the House is simple...HOLD THE LINE.

""LOL!! Everyone who attempts to craft a solution out of the morass has some nefarious ulterior motive.""

It's a higher office is a common motive in Washington. Costs money.

"Only you "let's kick 'em all out" jihadists are pure and, by God, it's going to be your way or the highway."

Well I've never been called a jihadist and I don't advocate kicking them all out and I've argued for a small worker program for agriculture "legalizing" ag workers already here many years with green cards and who will be sponsored by Ag industry and must provide health insurance.

"""That's why congresspeople like Tancredo are peter-principled out in his current position: he'd rather go up in flames than try to actually get something passed."""

They did get something passed, and Bush wouldn't fund it.

But since the House passed a bill, the House should be insisting that the SENATE move toward the HOUSE bill, in the interest of "getting something done".

I like to think the House will stand tall and kill this bill from the senate, but I have my doubts. I do not think Hastert can take the pressure from Bush and the RINOS. I was reading an article today and it indicated that if Hastert appoints a committee to negotiate with the Senate a bill of some kind will be passed. Our only hope is that Hastert refuses to appoint a committee to negotiate. Thus the bill dies .

You mean the Senate ignored it. It takes BOTH Houses to pass a bill for it to go to Bush's desk.

Bush budget scraps 9,790 border patrol agents - President uses law's escape clause to drop funding for new homeland security force

"Rep. Mike Pence of Indiana, who leads House GOP conservatives, unveiled a bill that would preserve the House's border security plan but add a narrow temporary worker program that would require immigrants to go home to become eligible.

Arguing that "a rational middle ground can be found between amnesty and mass deportation," Pence proposed having employers request foreign workers through private agencies. The agencies would find matches for the jobs and conduct health screening and background checks, with visas issued by the State Department in the workers' home countries."

Sounds logical to me. I'm really
upset about these Latinos organizing
and signing up voters for a June
vote in California. They already
HAVE citizenship as far as they're
concerned!

Now you're off in the weeds. HR 4437 is the bill the House passed in December that stands over against the Senate bill that will be passed on Friday.

What good is a bad "accomplishment"? Is the GOP more important than the country? If the Republican Congress rallies 'round the party, who's gong to rally around them in November?

None, no, nobody.

The Senate is great on compromises. Let them compromise with the House by taking out all non-enforcement provisions of the immigration bill on the promise to consider them in two years, when the enforcement provisions have had a chance to show their worth.

Well, we now know what the house and the senate propose. The senate clearly is representing the welfare and interests of the immigrants and the house is clearly representing the welfare of the exising citizenry. I anxiously await the results of the the upcoming compromise, assuming we even get to that point.

I have decided, however, that I'd prefer to see no bill if anything rsembling the senate bill is passed.

Under the bill, immigrants who have been in the country longer than five years can stay.

That is they are given a Green Card, for permanent residence, a Social Security #, and yearly Government check for up to $4,700.

...and get on an 11-year citizenship path after working...

Minimal requirement.

...passing background checks...

Yeah, right, for millions?

... paying fines...

$2000, which will be less than their EITC check.

...and back taxes,

Illegals don't earn enough for income tax. The only back tax liability an illegal would need settle is EITC payments to them.

...and learning English.

They need only enroll in a course, they don't actually have to learn anything.

"I want to renounce my citizenship and become an illegal alien. Can anyone here at Free Republic tell me how to do it"

Not a bad idea. You would get welfare, free medical, food stamps etc...right from the get go.

Passing something in the pretense of doing something is worse than useless. Tancredo is right, you are wrong.

We need to enforce the laws we have now and dump all the idiotic ILLEGAL ALIEN bills that are now in the works, especially the senate bill. We need to get rid of the parasitic scum who are sucking up our tax dollars and driving wages down.

We are in danger of totally ruining our economy with this idiotic move by the Pres and the senate, not to mention losing control of the house and senate in the near future. Anyone who underestimates the number of conservatives who are going to vote 3rd party or stay home are fooling themselves. Hopefully the house will stay the course.

Which means no reform. How do you feel about the status quo? Like it?

That's what you'll end up with.
