you would think that perhaps this event - will force the government to pass some strict laws regarding identity theft on the credit agencies and card companies. all the burden is currently on the victims.

This is scary. When did Sandy Burger start working for the V.A.? Seriously, this is a potential mess. I was in the USAF from 1970-74, so I guess I'm safe. So far.

To: saganite
Well this is just great and if I'm affected will mean the second time the government has "lost" my personal data to thieves (BoA government travel card info was stolen last year).

Individual notification letters also will be mailed to veterans. Wow, they know our addresses after 30 years or more?

A class action lawsuit against Veterans Affairs with 26.5 million plaintiffs might be hard to ignore.

Who is the RAT that stole Maryland Lt. Gov. Michael Steele's personal info?
They need to raid that guy's office.

There is no indication when the career employee removed the information from his office, but the data was stolen when his home was burglarized sometime this month, Nicholson said.Wonderful (extreme sarcasm)!
The data was stolen when this scumbag removed it from its legitimate place. Of course, if we won't send Sandy Burglar to prison for stealing/destroying Top Secret documents I guess we'll probably give this guy a promotion.
To: SandRat
Like what kind of info was stolen? SS# and what else?

Just heard of this... the employee should be fired immediately. The US Government should set up a clearing house to clear up any fraud immediatly as well...

The intel I got, was that it was information from 1970 forward. Check your cover.
