The Naked Guy, whose au naturel jaunts through Berkeley spurred a nudity revolt in the early 1990s and earned him national fame, died in a San Jose jail cell, apparently of suicide.
...After his days as the Naked Guy, Martinez spent the next decade bouncing among halfway houses, psychiatric institutions, occasional homelessness and jail.
...In typical Berkeley fashion, Martinez's nudity soon hatched a political movement. In September 1992, Martinez organized a "nude-in" on campus, in which about two dozen people stripped down to their birthday suits to exert their right to free speech.
...Martinez's run-ins with the law began in the fall of 1992, when he was arrested for indecent exposure while jogging naked near southside dormitories at 11 on a Saturday night.
The charges were dropped, but he was arrested again when he showed up at his court date naked.
... On Jan. 10, he was arrested after a fight at a halfway house where he was living and charged with two counts of battery and one count of assault with a deadly weapon.

Berkeley and Liberalism cause death.
The other significant bit of news coming out of the bay area is that a significant number of (presumably normal) people joined the "movement" he "sparked.
Says it all...
"It was an endless cycle of trying to get answers but never getting any," said his mother,
Perhaps a well-shined mirror would give you some of those answers, "mom".
Suggestions?
This story is just another in a long line of stories where we give people cult like attention for quirky behaviors which alot of times is really is a mental illness. May he rest in peace.
Sort of like Howard Dean?
Huh . . . who'd have known he was crazy?
I always wonder if these types started their mental illness with injudicious use of drugs that permanently affects their brain chemistry.
Having worked with the mentally ill a time or two, many times it's impossible to tell which came first, the drug use or the mental illness.
Sorry ... couldn't help myself.

By all accounts, this character was a real piece of work.
When I got up this morning, the air smelled just a little fresher, as if it weren't being filtered through a useless pair of lungs.
Now I know why.
Response: Is this the naked truth?
"Champion of Nudity"
That is what the Comical calls a raving lunatic who won't wear clothes. Priceless.
I guess bums who pee on the sidewalk are "Masters of Urination".
Paragons of Urban Campcraft
I'll say the same thing when you die.
The biggest lesson for me in this man's sad life is that even liberals themselves cannot seem to distinguish liberal behavior from mental illness.
Reporters, who appear to get stupider every year, go out and treat these sad people like they're celebrities or people of deep thought, rather than just attention hungry clowns or legitimate mental cases.
I keep thinking about how much I would have hated to be assigned his chair in the following class. It's enough to make you keep handi-wipes in your backpack.
Me, I actually met Martinez during the height of the public-nudity fracas, and he seemed a very nice, gentle guy. I think his demons really began to get the upper hand after he was expelled from UCB and tossed out of the limelight. Personally, I'm praying for his soul.
You'll be feeding worms a long time before me jerkoff.

I still consider it the funniest story that happened while I lived in CA. This good-looking male college student starts attending college in Berkeley buck naked. He claims he is moivated by a believe in freedom of expression & the repression caused by clothing. Rather than arrest or suspend the guy, the college & community agonizes for several weeks over whether his progressive cause outweighs - not the need to maintain public decency, mind you - but the need to be sensitive to the women attending college who felt sexually uncomfortable, or even harrassed by this naked guy sitting next to them in class. Priceless.
I didn't even know there was a nude championship...
Hey! If it lasts more than four hours you're supposed to seek medical treatment, not bash people with it!
I understand they didn't even have any hard evidence.
