Illegal border crossers step up effort to enter U.S. after Bush's speech

Thousands of illegal immigrants cross the U.S-Mexico border into Arizona every day.
To better yourself, for your family, and for a better life, says Alfonso Miramontez, whos from Los Mochis, Sinaloa, a town that's about an 8-hour bus ride from Nogales.
Miramontez says, once he heard the U.S. might be sending National Guard troops to the border, he immediately headed north, and was planning to illegally cross into Arizona Monday night.
Itll now be much harder to cross through the desert," says Miramontez, but the Army (National Guard) on the border wont stop me.
Like Miramontez, Eduardo Reyes, an immigrant from Mexico City, just arrived to the border town of Nogales, Sonora with the intention, of crossing into Arizona and finding work in the United States, says Reyes.
Miramontez says, Its bad in Mexico. Its also hard because the U.S. soldiers are fighting wars in other countries, and now, many are going to be along the border. When I cross, it scares me and makes me think twice.
Miramontez adds, I just want to be happy, and Ill try to work in the U.S., no matter what happens.

Not to worry Alfonso.
You're not illegally entering Mexico's southern border.
If you were doing that, you'd be very afraid.
And/or killed.

Sounds like we will see a "spike" up in illegals trying to get in before the Guard is in place. To be expected, I suppose.
Good reason for W to come out tomorrow and say; " I was just kidding about the 6,000 Guardsmen. It's really gonna be 6,000 spec op snipers."

Estimates for the first 3 months of 2006 have approximetely 470,000 illegal aliens crossing through Arizona. We'll be looking at between 1.5 and 2 million coming through Arizona this summer as they try to beat the enforcement on the border. Residents of Arizona are going to take it in the shorts on this one and our lovely governor is going to help the illegals as much as she can.AWB

As the Mexican govt/drug Cartels set the prices and distributes the operating areas, they most have known what was coming down.

If the MSM had done their job last night, they'd have been doing

Of course, it's hard to get a good interview of someone when

Perhaps we shouldn't only put the NG on the border but also bring in the CeeBee's and have them build another Panama Canal only 3 times as wide and separate the U.S. from Mexico once and for all.

This evening Alberto Gonzales (sp?), suppossedly the Attorney General
of the USA, was on TV...saying that the "rules of engagement" for
the troops on the border hadn't been set yet.
My suspicion is that our troops will never have a magazine loaded.
And that our troops will be instructed to NEVER fire and to just
run away at the first sign of a challenge by a coyote or drug runner.
Dubya doesn't have the intestinal fortitude to explain some dead
Mexicans on the border (even if they had it coming) to his buddy Vicente.
I will be more than happy to eat crow (with much BBQ sauce, please)
if the BP and NG combine to really control the border and turn back
the invaders.

You can call me a conspiracy theorist if you like, but I'm sensing and ulterior motive behind the federal government's movements towards "controlling the borders."
When the CFR-members in Congress get behind something, I tend to get suspicious. Conservatives have been griping about immigration for years and now, all of a sudden it's the major headline every day. I think the sudden interest by our policy makers is going to lead to what the President mentioned last night: a secure, biometric ID card that you'll need to get a job in he USA. This will have to extend to citizens as well.
This whole immigration debate is going to a national ID card. The CFR-world federalist bunch are going to use the momentum to push this through. Just wait and see. Soon it will be, "Ach, Haben sie ihr Papieren, mein Herr?"

First hint: "cha-ching!"
Everyone benefits from the coyote, to Vicente from the return vouchers,
to the local bank that loans them $$$ for a home and car, etc., etc.
Votes for illegal immigration supporting legislators.
Cheap, compliant, hard-working (de facto slave) labor force for contractors
nurserymen, farmers, factory operators, etc.
By the way, nice of you (and a bunch of us) to be compassionate
to give 'em free healthcare, eduction, etc.
See, we benefit by getting to feel good about ourselves.
Well, that's what some Republican legislators would tell us.

I'm afraid that already describes the situation for many in the USA.
The people known as "legal citizens".
Pulled over by the police? Produce a drivers license and proof of insurance
or bad things happen.
Boarding a plane? Bend over!
(Hell, I was getting the "sir, can we do an extra inspection on your
bag?" years before 9-11. I guess I was such an average, middle-aged
white guy, I just had to be a Serbian terrorist)
Etc.
It's the illegals that rarely have to worry about that documentation hassle.

Gonzales was pretty pathetic in that interview. Not militarizing our border - have to be careful to not offend our friends - NG will have right to defend themselves (??)
transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0605/16/sitroom.02.html
(snip) BLITZER: Well, what do you think? Some of your conservative friends think this is a facade, that these troops going to the border for two-week periods of time without even weapons is useless.
GONZALES: Well, I think having a strong show of force along the border will have a deterrent effect.
BLITZER: Are they actually going to be on the border, though, or as opposed to being behind the scenes?
GONZALES: Well, I don't -- there will be a sign of force that will be visible along the border. Clearly, the National Guard troops will be there to support the work of the Border Patrol officers. They're there to provide a supportive role. They will not be engaged in law enforcement.
But I think any time you have that kind of visible show of force, I think it will have a deterrent effect.
BLITZER: Will they be armed? In other words, are you fully clear on the rules of engagement these military forces will have?
GONZALES: Well, obviously, that will be something that will have to be worked out. Those rules of engagement will have to be very, very clear so there's no misunderstanding. Clearly, though, these folks will have -- will have the opportunity and the authority to defend themselves, to protect themselves. But as to the specific rules of engagement, that will be something that will have to be worked out.
BLITZER: Will they carry weapons?
GONZALES: Again, I think -- that will be something that will have to be worked out. But I'm quite confident they certainly will have the authority to protect themselves.
BLITZER: If there's a show of force, as you say, along the border of Mexico, isn't this the same thing as militarizing the border with a good friend, Mexico? And people in Mexico would understandably be upset about that?
GONZALES: We want to be very, very careful, of course, about making it clear to Mexico and other folks along the border that this is not about militarizing the border. We have had National Guard troops working along the border for quite some time...
BLITZER: But only a few hundred.
GONZALES: ... on counter-narcotics efforts. Clearly, this -- we're talking about an increased number here, but one of the reasons the president went out yesterday to talk to the American people and to our friends in Mexico is to make it clear what his objectives are here. And that is to secure the border. This is not to militarize the border.

I remember many years ago in the 50's my Dad (A vet from Patton's 3rd Army) often saying, "Son, our freedom depends on our will to fight". I believed him of course, but I was just a tyke.
Today, with my Dad long passed, I still hear his words and wonder if there are enough of us who grasp such a basic concept.

To: Soul Seeker
Lt. Gen. Blum was on Medved today. He said basically the guard will be doing their required trainings along the Southern border. He also refuted the 1 year. He said they will be there as long as they are needed.
To: SandRat
"but the Army (National Guard) on the border wont stop me. Like Miramontez, Eduardo Reyes, an immigrant..." He's right, they won't stop him. The NG troops will be there only as spotters. Allegedly, if they see illegals trying to cross the border they will call the Border Patrol agents in to deal with them. In other words, they will be stationed on the border largely as window dressing to deceive the American people into believing that President Bush is taking serious action.
