Kosovo was occupied by the NATO troops. It was divided into five occupation sectors: German sector in the south, US sector in the south east, British sector in the center, French sector in the north and Italian sector in the west.
The leading role belongs to US. The main military base is Camp Bondsteel, built on 750 acres of former farmland near Urosevic with a 6-mile perimeter and with thousands of US troops.
Russia which had arranged the compromise between NATO and Serbia, was denied any sector despite promises (NATO did not keep the deal). The compromise called for UN control and for the return of Serbian troops after stabilizing Kosovo and for Russian participation.
Russians managed to inject some troops and seized the Pristina airport. It almost led to the armed confrontation with British troops ordered to confront Russians by US general Clark. Fortunately British general refused to obey the orders.
The decision to separate Kosovo will come from where .... wait for it.. the UN!!
I hate the UN so very very much. Don't you????
