Kosovo consternation
The Washington Times ^ | 9 May 2006 | James "Ace" Lyons, Jr.

Among the most important priorities of U.S. global policy is combating the international traffic in drugs and in persons (often a euphemism for women and children forced into prostitution).

Because of the linkage and overlap among terrorist networks and organized criminal gangs, the battle against trafficking is also an integral part of the war on terror.

Amazingly, that's what the international community seems to want to help establish in the Serbian province of Kosovo. When Kosovo was placed under United Nations administration and NATO military control at the end of the 1999 war, some hoped the province soon would meet at least minimum qualifications for some kind of independence, as demanded by Muslim Albanians who greatly outnumber the remaining Christian Serbs.

That hasn't happened. Instead the drug, sex slave, weapons, money-laundering, and other illicit trades that helped fuel the conflicts of the 1990s have continued to grow.

"If UN ended its involvement over there what would it change? Please explain!"

If the UN ended its involvement - or never got involved - especially in the beginning. There'd be more chaos for NATO - making their job more difficult. It would also have enabled Serbs to fend for themselves - as the UN police confiscates Serbs weapons.

Also it wouldn't have fed the Albanian criminals - including their brothels. The UN money goes into supporting Kosovo and helped build up the terror-mafia state.

They've parked themselves there for 7 years. They are definitely responsible to a large degree, even if others are even more guilty.

You obviously didn't understand my statement, democrats are quick to deflect blame and absolve responsibility in favor PC expediency.

"NATO is in real charge in Kosovo. If UN ended its involvement over there what would it change? Please explain!"

Who would replace the UN, hmm?

The UN f**ed up in Africa, was that NATO's fault too?

I am losing you. War on Serbia and occupation of Kosovo was NATO job. Two out of five permanent members of Security Council were opposed to it so UN was not capable to assume this responsibility. UN was brought later to provide some legitimacy to NATO presence.

The UN personnel indulge themselves while Serbs are without proper medical treatment and have their electricity cut off for months in the middle of winter. Some American Serbs had to send over generators for the suffering villages.

You are letting them off the hook.

Their money has supported and built up Kosovo. They are not refusing the mission nor have made a real effort to help Serbs who have died because of lack of medical care, medicines, food, heat, etc. while many of them are living high on the hog - and renting homes and apartments to Albanians who cleared them of their Serb owners.

You are intentionally losing me in favor of trying to apologize for UN negligence.

Based on your line of logic, the KLA should be absolved of any responsibility since as well since they were really puppets of NATO and the CIA. The murders perpetrated by the KLA is really all NATO's fault while Thaci, Ceku etal should simply go scot free because it was all NATO's doing?

"and renting homes and apartments to Albanians"

Should be: "and renting homes and apartments from Albanians"

They have helped make the evil Kosova state possible. They also seem rather content and proud of themselves - the organization - that they helped steal the province from Serbia and its all running rather smoothly - for them.

Who are you kidding???

I am not making the UN into anything....much less a scapegoat!!! HAHHAHA!You are just too funny.

The UN stinks and I hate it for just the reason you state... it is a rubber stamp for the so-called Great Powers and it is a POOR debating society at that.

What a waste of money and energy is the UN.

OK, I give up. The responsibility for war on Serbia and occupation of Kosovo belongs to UN. The attack was led by the Russian and Chinese military. Chinese and Russian troops are supporting Muslim Albanians and standing by during the pogroms against Serbs and Gypsies. Who says otherwise is a Democratic Clintonian dupe. Are you satisfied now?

The Russians did a few years as KFOR, but then left, saying they couldn't support such a mission because of what was happening to Serbs. However, while there, the Russian soldiers did kill 3 Serbs at the beginning who were shooting back at drive-by Albanian shooters. They were praised by Javier Solana - and NATO relaxed knowing the Russians really would go against them.

We aren't saying NATO isn't guilty, but the UN is a participant and supporter of what is happening.

Now you're just being a disingenuous loser. I'll make the same type of stupid comment you just made.

Yeah, it was all NATO, the UN is simply too dumb to take responsibility for its own actions. We here at the UN are so stupid in fact that NATO even pulled our purse strings in Africa, yeah that's the ticket. The Oil for food debacle was all NATO's fault too because we lowly UN guys are too incompetent to know right from wrong...etc etc.

Talk about skirting the issue...

WHY do you defend the UN???

I am just saying that NATO is responsible. UN, ACLU, Greenpeace, Nation of Islam, Catholics for Choice, Aztlan, CPUSA, Objectivists, Scientology Church are not, even if we might not like them.

It is not the issue of UN being dumb, but that Russia and China have veto power and they were opposed to war on Serbia.

I went to that web site www.kosovo.net and found out many things about what is NOW going on on Kosovo in regard to non-Albanians.

I think everybody should check out the site. It is an eye opener.

One of the latest news items is about a Christian priest and his young family being ambushed in their car by men in a dark colored car who followed them from another town.

SHOCKING, but I am not surprised by it. Of course it was Albanians who did it... NO CIVILISED PERSONS WOULD SHOOT AT A CAR WITH A RELIGIOUS LEADER, HIS WIFE AND BABIES IN THE CAR!!

THANK GOD he and his family got away!

Russia and China were opposed to the fight, but they OK'd the UNMIK forces and administration of Kosovo by the UN flunkies.

I think we are discussing something that in the end we do agree.

THE NON-ALBANIAN POPULATION OF KOSOVO IS SUFFERING MIGHTLY UNDER THE UNMIK ADMINISTRATION AND THE NATO MILITARY OCCUPATION!! THE KLA IS A CRIMINAL ALBANIAN ENTERPRISE SANCTIONED BY THE UNMIK/NATO FORCES AND THEY ARE EVIL, EVIL,EVIL!!

What does that have to do with UN incompetence in Kosovo now?

Russia and China's oppsoition has nothing to do with their fondness for Serbs, but rather their disdaine for the US in general.

Do you honestly believe that the Russian Duma and the Chinese Government are worried about Serbia for Serbia's sake? They're simply looking out for their own interests.

I can say with a degree of confidence that the Russian citizenry, onthe other hand in general, support Serbs as kindred Orthodox people but certainly not the Duma in that regard.

UNMIK expects a wave of violence | 09:32 May 11 | B92

PRIŠTINA -- UNMIK police say that the recent increase of attacks on Serbs is a reason for concern in Kosovo.

“After the stoning of the bus, we are practicing in order to react quickly in unforeseen situations, and the mission chief is continuing the investigation.” UNMIK representative Nirad Sing told daily Glas Javnosti, adding that conflicts do not serve in the best interest of Kosovo and that it is time for both sides to realise that.

Commenting the most recent attack on a bus full of Serbs, UNMIK said that these actions are initiated by people who want to see the Kosovo status discussions called off. They added that the situation is getting more and more critical everyday, and that UNMIK will be preparing its police officers for similar incidents.

“On the same night that the United Nations bus which was carrying Serbs was stoned, we started to test our forces to see how fast we can react in unexpected situations.” said UNMIK spokesperson Kelly Collins Mcmurry, adding that UNMIK’s task is to protect all people in Kosovo.

She added that the police are not able to stop all crimes in any region of the world, and that UNMIK is well aware of the potential problems in Kosovo, adding that its forces will be well-prepared.
