Researcher Finds Letter Linking Geronimo, Secret Yale Society
AP via FoxNews ^

HARTFORD, Conn. — A Yale University historian has uncovered a 1918 letter that seems to lend validity to the lore that Yale University's ultra-secret Skull and Bones society swiped the skull of American Indian leader Geronimo.

The letter, written by one member of Skull and Bones to another, purports that the skull and some of the Indian leader's remains were spirited from his burial plot in Fort Sill, Okla., to a stone tomb in New Haven that serves as the club's headquarters.

According to Skull and Bones legend, members — including President Bush's grandfather, Prescott Bush — dug up Geronimo's grave when a group of Army volunteers from Yale were stationed at the fort during World War I. Geronimo died in 1909.

I thought it was Will Shakespeare that swiped Geronimo's skull. Or was it Sir Francis Bacon?

Jim Morrison, perhaps?

Little know fact. On the way to bringing the skull back to Yale, the plane caught fire and they had to bail out and thus originated the practice of yelling "Geronimo" when exiting an airplane via hitting the silk.

I know what my reaction would be if some idiotic college "secret society" desecrated the grave of one of my relatives. Whether they raided Geronimo's grave or that of some other hapless Apache, Skull & Bones committed a crime - hopefully the modern day version is a little more mature.

I have it on good authority that the researcher who was looking into this "very strange coincidence" had his notes mysteriously disappear during a flight over the Bermuda Triangle. His name; Lemony Snicket.

"hopefully the modern day version is a little more mature."

"Mature" means "emasculated" by many standards.... though I believe today's Ivy Leaguers are both less mature and more vile than ever.

I share your revulsion in any case. True or not, they revel in their own despicable myths.

The Wall Street journal had an article about this yesterday. The weight of the evidence is against any theft of Geronimo's bones. Among other reasons, at the time President Bush's grandfather was stationed at Fort Sill it would have been extremely difficult to find the grave, since it was unmarked and heavily overgrown. There is also no comtemporaneous evidence of the grave having been disturbed. The Director of the Fort Sill museum has researched this incident for 20 years and is convinced it is a hoax.

Unless, of course, it's total BS.

There's this legend of a big hairy animal in the Pacific Northwest...

There's this legend that if you kiss this stone in Ireland...

There's this legend that if you believe BS stories, particularly ones coming from an extreme anti-American leftist institution that is now proud of it's Taliban student, and particularly if that BS story takes a personal slam at the sitting president's family, then you'll believe just about anything...

The Apache, according to the article, are extremely sensitive to anything involving the remains of the dead. For this reason, again according to the article, the Museum curator has never attempted even to probe the grave ultrasonically to see if the body appears to be intact. I assume that same sensitivity would nix any effort to take DNA for comparison purposes.

Everybody knows the Skull n' Bones stole Geronimo's skull. Prescott Bush was involved in the theft. Yale has not done a thing about it even though a lawsuit was filed a few years ago. Think about this: If the skull was from a famous black man, for example Frederick Douglas, the Yale campus might have been hit by arson years ago.

BUSH FAMILY MEMBERS OF SKULL & BONES SOCIETY

by: Brenda Norrell - Correspondent For Indian Country Today

http://indiancountry.com/?1064420579

MOUNT GRAHAM, Ariz. - The Skull and Bones Society admitted to Apache leaders 17 years ago that they had a skull they call "Geronimo's" in their secret cult museum in New Haven, Conn. Still, his remains have not been returned.

Raleigh Thompson, former San Carlos Apache tribal councilman for 16 years, said it is time to bring Geronimo home to be buried in the mountains that he loved.

"Geronimo left his rifle and peace pipe here when they took him away," Thompson said.

"When Geronimo was taken from this land, he wanted to come back and be buried on San Carlos in the Triplet Mountains."

During an interview at the Mount Graham Sacred Run, Thompson said he was present in New York when the Skull and Bones Society admitted that it held Geronimo's remains in 1986.

"They dug up Geronimo's body in 1918. His body is at the Skull and Bones Museum. Grandfather Prescott Bush dug it up," Thompson said.

The grave robbing was exposed when Apache leaders received a photo and information in the 1980s. The informant, fearing for his life and never identified, provided Apache leaders with a photo of the cult museum's display of Geronimo's remains in a glass cage. The informant also provided a copy of a Skull and Bones Society log book, in which the 1918 grave robbery was recorded.

According to the Skull and Bones log book entry, Prescott Bush, grandfather of George W. Bush, and five other officers at Fort Sill, Okla., desecrated Geronimo's grave.

After receiving the information, San Carlos Chairman Ned Anderson, Thompson and tribal attorney Joe Sparks were in an Apache tribal delegation which met with the Society. During a series of meetings, they met with Skull and Bones officials and Jonathan Bush, George Bush's brother, in New York City in 1986.

However, Thompson said the skull that the Skull and Bones Society offered to return to the Apache delegation was that of a young boy, not Geronimo, and the Apache leaders refused it.

"They admitted that they called this skull Geronimo. They gave us the skull, but the skull was so small that it looked like a young boy's skull." Thompson said.

"Based on that, we didn't want to take the skull. I think they switched the skull on us."

Thompson said the Skull and Bones Society has other items of Geronimo's, including one of Geronimo's elbow bones and his horse's bridle bit and straps. They have been on display in a museum cage in the secret society's "tomb," as shown in the photograph the Apache leaders received.

In the 1980s, Anderson pressed Arizona congressmen, including Republican Senator John McCain, for assistance in retrieving Geronimo's remains. However, Skull and Bones did not return the remains.

Anderson gave congressmen a copy of the Skull and Bones Society's internal history, "Continuation of the History of Our Order for the Century Celebration," written June 17, 1933, by The Little Devil of D'121."

This log book states that the attack on Geronimo's grave was in May 1918, at Fort Sill. One of the grave robbers advised the others to proceed with caution. He is quoted as saying, "Six army captains robbing a grave wouldn't look good in the papers."

Skull and Bones members are referred to as "patriarchs" in the early log book. The reference to Prescott Bush is written as "Patriarch Bush."

The log book states, "The ring of pick on stone and thud of earth on earth alone disturbs the peace of the prairie. An axe pried open the iron door of the tomb, and Pat[riarch] Bush entered and started to dig. We dug in turn, each on relief taking a turn on the road ."

"We quickly closed the grave, shut the door and sped home to Pat[riarch] Mallon's room, where we cleaned the Bones. Pat[riarch] Mallon sat on the floor liberally applying carbolic acid. The Skull was fairly clean, having only some flesh inside and a little hair. I showered and hit the hay ... a happy man ..."

Although Jonathan Bush and Society members admitted they have a skull they call Geronimo's during the 1986 meetings in New York, the Society's attorney denies it.

Attorney Endicott P. Davison, attorney for the Skull and Bones Society, denies that the society had Geronimo's skull. He claimed the log book describing the grave robbing was a hoax. * * *

I'd be delighted if the story wasn't true, since it's disgusting. However, the Yale historian has a letter which will presumably be examined and verified if it hasn't been already. Meanwhile, you've provided nothing to cast doubt on the Yale historian's story.

A) It's a letter from someone who wasn't there talking about a legend from before his time

B) It's a Yale "historian," only slightly less disreputable a title than a University of Colorado at Boulder historian.

C) Even the Yale historian doubts the story

D) My mother was raised on reservations and the universal attitude among The Nations warriors towards an enemy tribes dead was (and is) "piss on 'em." Ever heard of "Crowe Heart's Butte" in Wyoming? Know why it's called Crowe Heart's Butte?

Not really sure, but I think that a paratrooper yells "Geronimo!!" as a catharsis to overcome the instinctive fear of falling. I guess.

But in the parody "Top Secret", OSS agents jump from a C-47, each shouting "Geronimo!"; then an Apache in full warpaint and feather bonnet jumps, shouting, "Me!!!!!!"

(Oh well, I thought it was funny.)
