About 100 opponents to amnesty for illegal immigrants rallied today -- Cinco de Mayo -- in Santa Clara's Central Park.
The group, some dressed from head to toe in red, white and blue, waved American flags and held up signs that read ``Protect our borders,'' and ``Enforce our laws.''
Santa Clara tech worker Jill Easton said her concern with illegal immigration was economic. ``Because of all the illegal immigrants, our hospitals are broke and are schools are broken because we're pouring all this money out,'' she said.

(05-05) 17:01 PDT Santa Clara, Calif. (AP) --
About 150 demonstrators lined a busy boulevard here Friday to protest illegal immigration and counter the massive pro-immigrant rallies that have dominated recent headlines.
The protest in Santa Clara's Central Park was one of about 30 such demonstrations against illegal immigration planned for Friday in cities nationwide, according to organizer Roberta Allen.
"We're here to show the legislators that there's another side to the immigration issue," said Allen, 62, a San Jose optician. "We should start enforcing laws on the books, start enforcing laws on employers and start taking away perks" such as free health care and education.
The protesters, who were mostly white and middle-aged, waved American flags and held signs that read "Mr. President, Secure Our Borders Now,""Immigrants Yes, Illegals No" and "Wait Your Turn, No Amnesty."

"Immigrants Yes, Illegals No" <<< The other side of my sign was a variant of this (it said "Legal Immigrants YES; Illegal Invaders NO).
Sounds like an invasion to me.

May 5 - BCN - The massive immigrants rights protests that raged nationwide Monday stood in stark contrast to the muted anti-illegal immigrant demonstration attended by nearly 200 people in Santa Clara today.
Looking more like a picnic gathering with a few dozen people lining Kiely Boulevard at Central Park with protest signs, the rally nonetheless had its moments of heated debate.
"We are the indigenous people of this land. This is stolen land," local La Raza representative Quetzaoceloacina, who came with a dozen people to counter the anti-illegal immigrant protesters, said today. "You are the ones who are illegal aliens," she told a demonstrator who begged the difference before the two were separated by a police officer.

"We're outraged about their defiance of the laws that we have," Alan Hall, 41, of San Jose, said today. "What we want isn't much -- secure borders. We want people who are here to belong here. People who are legal citizens who have gone through the legal process, those are the people we want in this country. What we are opposed to is the illegal invasion of our country."

Great job! Thank you for the report.
GREAT JOB 3C. Wish I could join y'all but that's not a possibility.
Your AP photographer captured a few of our events over here.
Stay the course and pass out a few Atta-Boys/Girls to your co-patriots from me.
Good photos, but the AP photog's captions leave a lot of confusion...
It's time for a D.C. FReeper to wish we were out there.
From the news article,
"Some of the other visitors to the large, popular park said they agreed with the protesters on the issue, but didn't feel strongly enough about it to join in."
That is also part of the problem - let someone else worry about it. Sounds like a RINO to me. Sure glad there were very few RINOs around in 1776.

The immigrant advocate with the Aztec name has got it all wrong.
If she is angry about "illegal invasion" let her take her protest to Spain.
Their captions truly suck and are deceptive. Amazing how often they often leave out "ILLEGAL."
Waving American flags and attracting supportive honks and derisive jeers from passersby, Bay Area residents who stood on the edge of Santa Clara's Central Park on Friday said their voices had also been pushed to the fringe in the debate over illegal immigration.
``I'm just a worker, and I deserve the right to voice my opinion and to be heard,'' said Elizabeth Hernanadez, an electrician whose great-grandparents emigrated from Mexico. ``I understand people want to have a better life, but they should do it the right way and understand that we are struggling, too, to pay all these taxes to support them.''

I'm a personal FRiend of Alan. He rocks, and I give my highest recommendations to any and all FReeperetts looking for a date with one Kool guy.
I had looked at your profile page in a long time.
That graphic of the LA freeperettes is very funny.
But, Anna is no longer a LA girl...she is now a Texican...but she will always be part of our crew.
Duh.... had NOT looked....
I think you're only down to 2 L.A. girls now, yes? One in Tejas, one in Oregon, one in Switzerland (for a few months)...
Getting harder to do a reunion with y'all. :-/
Anyway, back on topic... we had another rally today and the crowd seemed to be larger for our side. Yay!
"An immigrants rights supporter...."
"...of the anti immigration rights group..."
Who wrote this crap?
It's sickenly dishonest "reporting."

Immigration-reform rally -- but this one is against
Robert Drobot of Milpitas, pictured, and dozens of like-minded protesters stage an anti-illegal immigrant rally at Central Park in Santa Clara along Kiely Boulevard to make their views known amid the much larger marches and demonstrations that have captured the majority of media attention of late. Their rally was part of a nationwide effort on Friday to give voice to the anti-illegal immigrant side in the wide-ranging immigration-reform debate. Chronicle photo by Michael Macor
