Immigrant Backlash In Herndon Voters Oust Leaders Who Supported Center

By Bill Turque and Nikita Stewart Washington Post Staff Writers Wednesday, May 3, 2006; A01

Herndon voters yesterday unseated the mayor and Town Council members who supported a bitterly debated day-labor center for immigrant workers in a contest that emerged as a mini-referendum on the turbulent national issue of illegal immigration.

Residents replaced the incumbents with a group of challengers who immediately called for significant changes at the center. Some want to bar public funds from being spent on the facility or restrict it to workers residing in the country legally. Others want it moved to an industrial site away from the residential neighborhood where it is located.

The day-labor center thrust the western Fairfax County town into the national spotlight as the issue of illegal immigration became emotional. Even though fewer than 3,000 people voted yesterday, advocates on both sides of the issue looked at the election as a test case of public sentiment. Outside groups such as the Minutemen Project, which favors sharp curbs on illegal immigration, intervened in the town debate. Judicial Watch, a conservative legal group, is suing the town over establishment of the center.

"I'm really proud of what I stood for and proud of what I did," said O'Reilly. "I think there was a lot of misinformation that was out there. There may be a lot more resentment and hatred out there than I anticipated."

Hatred of criminals and their supporters, yes.

Hey, Mayor! I hear the car wash is hiring (provided you don't ask for too much per hour).

Karl Rove, Bill Frist, John Boehner, Denny Hastert - Are you listening. The sound of foot steps behind you should get your attention.

Americans one and all are sick and tired of your not listening to our overwhelming VETO of your ideas to legalize illegal aliens, then offer them "citizenship."

Close our borders once and for all and go after businesses that hire and recruit illegal aliens. We are sick and tired of closing much needed Emergency Rooms, overcrowding of Public Schools, Driver's Licenses being given in Spanish, referring to those of us who desire our laws to be enforced as "vigilantes."

DITTO!!

IMO, the great May 1st walk out and protest was a big BUST! Am I the only one who thinks this? It sure didn't cripple the economy like they said it would.

I hope they keep showing their butts; it just turns America against them even more.

That sounds fair to me. People shouldn't be taxed to pay for foreign citizens services. They're being taxed enough to support American citizen services the way it is.
People shouldn't be forced to support the worlds population. How ridiculous is that? This shouldn't even be debated!

I'm curious, who here went to their last city council meeting? I did.

If you are not involved in local city politics give it a try. Go to the meetings or read the minutes on the city web site. Usually, you can also read the agenda for the upcoming meeting. If you have something you WANT on the agenda ask that it be put on the agenda.

Local city politics is fun. Give it a try.....

The politicians are afraid of being called racists. Ordinary citizens can vote as they choose thanks to the secret ballot. If the ACLU could figure out a way to prevent citizens from casting a "racist" vote, they would. Somewhere, no doubt, brilliant legal minds are working at removing decisions like these from the people.

It is not government's responsibility to find jobs for anybody, much less illegals. That is the responsibility of the citizen. These job centers just become excuses for leeches, on unemployment or welfare, to claim they looked for a job that week, and collect a paycheck while watching TV. Government can't replace desire to earn a living, with a program for drug addicts, mentally ill, criminals, and losers who can't set an alarm. It just won't ever work.

Herndon voters yesterday unseated the mayor and Town Council members who supported a bitterly debated day-labor center for immigrant workers....

ESTABLISHED FACT

All public officials---elected and appointed---in their capacity as fiduciaries of public monies---are required, by law, to be bonded. The express purpose of bonding government employees is to protect the public's money. Each state sets their own regulations, and selects a bonding insurance carrier.

Public entities that mandate bonding include: Municipalities, counties, townships (government employees of licensing agencies, and the like), school districts, ambulance districts, volunteer fire departments, community college districts, public universities, transit authorities, landfills, sewage treatment facilities, public works maintenance facilities, airports.

IMPACT

Concerns on this issue center on instances when elected and appointed public officials used government agencies fraudulently, and misused tax dollars----to build mustering zones----allowed illegals to use phony documentation to get government benefits, auto licenses, building permits, welfare, food stamps, health care, school subsidies, and other government benefits, to vote in elections, to vote on tax-exempt municipal financing issues, and the like using false documenation.........are all examples of fiduciary negligence, and would violate the state's bonding regulations, and the bonding requirements of the carrier.

FALLOUT

Now, if a bonded government employee had previous financial problems---perhaps a bankruptcy or a job loss for financial improprieties, etc, that would preclude bonding---and they failed to reveal the info to bonding agents, that would subject them to legal penalties for filing false applications.

Public officials with past financial problems who do not qualify for bonding would have to be tossed out of office.

Say government funds were stolen and the public official had failed to get bond coverage; the state would have no way to recover that money other than restitution through a criminal prosecution.

Public officials who lied on bonding applications might be subjected to fines or imprisonment.

If it is determined a public official failed to apply for bond coverage, he/she has broken the law, and is subject to an actionable offense.

A small town mayor and some council members don't make a trend. It may take more than this incident to drown the million marchers yesterday.

This is only the beginning. Americans are finally starting to wake up.

It's about time. The protests exposed the illegals. Before, they were pretty much out of sight and out of mind, but now the America citizen has seen how many people their tax dollars are supporting.
My gosh, Americans are counting pennies to support their own families after taxes, then they wake up one morning to see a million social parasites feeding off them on their TV screen and demanding even more from them.

"A small town mayor and some council members don't make a trend. It may take more than this incident to drown the million marchers yesterday."

Ya got a point there.

Then again, that's 1 million out of some 250 million. I'm pretty sure the VAST majority of Americans are in favor of sane, legal, organized immigration.
