Any non immigration related ideas to turn things around?

The President needs to get his fighting spirit back.

I heard gas prices may have hit their peak for the time being and may start going down after Memorial Day. We will see. I still miss the less than $1 on regular unleaded.

Why oh why do you (the generic "you", not the specific "you") keep posting these idiotic made up stories about polls. I'd rather waste time than fret over what the latest douchebag poll says.

IMHO, too late to turn things around. He has had his chance and blown it...let's see, how can a president expect to be popular, especially with conservatives, when...he spends like a liberal, ignores the majority will of the people, backstabs his own party, performs as a hypocrite when it comes to securing the U.S. (9/11 response versus wide open borders), supports illegal immigrants and panders to their governments, fails at reforming social security, hands government education over to the liberals (Kennedy, et al), conspires with the liberal enemy (that backstabs him) to generate an illegal immigrant amnesty bill....and if it had not been for his SCOTUS appointments (one of which had to be corrected) -- he would be marked as an almost complete domestic failure.

How can he expect to be popular?? -- especially after nearly two terms in the Oval Office and a majority Congress to go along with it?

Scott Rasmussen, the author of the poll that this thread is discussing is not a "douchebag." He's a business-investor class-oriented conservative and a Fox News contributor. If HIS poll, which is always the fairest to Republicans has Bush at 37%, that's serious.

I have never been polled by these people. No one in my family has ever been polled for these political surveys. No one I even know has ever been called.

I get polled at least 4 times a year, usually in the 60 days before the election every 2 years.

Bingo. Bush hasn't played to his base in some time, and it's going to cost him dearly if he doesn't realize that soon. If enough 'Pubs stay home this November, he ends up with Speaker Pelosi, and possible impeachment. He'll have no one to blame but himself if that happens.

Good post. The best we can hope now is that Bush is too weak to shove his hideous amnesty betrayal down our throats, but not so weak that he drags the GOP congressional majorities down his failure hole.

Because from what we've seen of Bush, he'll turn right around after being impeached (but not convicted) to embrace the new Democratic Congress as a "fresh partner" in bringing about his precious Mexico-merger.

"But, to say the President is a bad communicator is just wrong. In another era, he would be considered brilliant (he is) because of his ability to connect with people face to face."

I've never met the man, but neither has almost all the voters. Hes a terrible speech giver. He pauses all the time and just sounds stupid. I know that doesn't mean he is stupid, but some should work on that with him.

I may be in the Minority but I like the Guy.
I don't like everything he does. But I like the fact that he took the bull by the horns and went after Sadam.

Your right...so am I Ha.

Stick a fork in him. This W's lame duck is cooked. There will be no fence built. There will be no progress on entitlements, no tort reform, no tax reform, no progress on school vouchers. Sad it was in our hands...
Maybe he can get ANWR......

But at this point we will prolly lose the House and the best W will be able to do is not get impeached.

Maybe one 6 year term is the answer.

The President is destroying his base with his immigration stance and by going off on us being addicted to oil (shades of Carter).

"Doing work that Americans won't do" is another ghost of Jimmy Carter. Remember Carter's malaise speech in which is blamed the mood of the American people for national situation? Pres Bush is doing something very similar. He is effectively saying that Americans are lazy and deserve to be supplanted by the illegal workers which the Pres himself is encouraging to come over through promises of amnesty.

Bush hasn't played to his base in some time, and it's going to cost him dearly if he doesn't realize that soon.

I think there has been a sea change regarding conservatives' attitudes toward the Republican party. In the past Repub office holders could abuse the base, but right before the election they'd starting talking about "guns,God and gays" and we'd come running back. This time few people are in the mood to accept the pre-election blather.

Voting for the lesser of two evils has got us in a situation where RINOS drive out conservatives. This time alot of people will vote ONLY for the real deal. If no such candidate exists, they will not vote.

In the past, I was convinced to vote for the party to assure majorities in the Congress. I've been voting R for decades but partial birth abortion is still legal.

So, right before the election I'm going to get told the Republicans are the pro-life party and they are going to trot out the flag burning amendment again. No one is going to fall for it.

While I do not agree with some of the things he has done or some of his missteps.........I WILL STAND BY THIS PRESIDENT UNTIL HELL FREEZES OVER.

It is the cowards on the left, the traitorous MSM and the "turncoats on the right" that is doing him and this country the greatest disservice.

For those who keep bashing him, I sure hope that you are ready for the libs to be in power. Sure, you will blame Bush like you already do but, YOU will still have to live in the mess that YOU helped the libs to create.

Like I said in my post, he is not a good public speaker, and although he has worked on it and improved, it just isn't in him. But I've met a lot of very smart, capable people who are not good speakers.

In fact, some of the best speakers in the country right now come out of Hollywood and are dumber than a box of rocks.

That said, he is a brilliant communicator in the old fashioned sense. I have never met him in person either, but I watch him in crowds or answering questions. You instinctively come away understanding the man. It's not always words that communicate, it's the eye contact, the body language, a wink or a nod, a smile in the right direction or an empathic touch. He is brilliant in that regard. He makes honest, emotional connections with people very quickly. He is profoundly human, and it matters not if you are powerful or weak, he can make that connection with you.

That is the kind of communication that actually accomplishes things. The rest is the kind of communications that ends up in the "blah, blah, blah" pile.

The press knows this. That is why they so quickly cut away when he is in town hall meetings, but linger during press conferences and speeches. They are hostile partially because he does not want to communicate the way they think he should—from a distance with nice flowery words. You know, the way they do.

Most importantly, in the end it is not whether or not one sounds stupid that is important, it is whether or not one acts stupid. Because as Forrest says, "stupid is as stupid does."

It fascinating how disconnected some are from their own responsibility of contributing to todays problems isn't it?

It is so doggone easy to be a backseat driver. It takes no effort, no facts, no culpability, no decision making, no responsibility. Just a profound belief that you could do it better—but without actually having to try.

Sainthood without commitment. Perfection without progress.

Yes, but he's a subject. A subject can become a target very quickly. Look, I don't want Rove indicted, I just don't trust Fitzgerald and think he will go for it. He's after a job in Hillary's Administration. He's a hack and will indict.
