In Rhode Island, Chafee Leads by Double Digits A new Rhode Island College poll shows Sen. Lincoln Chafee (R-RI) with a double-digit lead over Sheldon Whitehouse (D), 51% to 32%.

When Steve Laffey (R) is the GOP nominee, Whitehouse wins, 50% to 27%. However, in the GOP primary Chafee is ahead of Laffey by a wide margin, 56% to 28%.

In Pennsylvania, Santorum Continues to Trail The latest Rasmussen Reports poll shows Sen. Rick Santorum (R-PA) trailing rival Bob Casey (D) by 13 percentage points, 51% to 38%.

"Santorum is struggling with his base, consistently earning less than 70% of the vote from Pennsylvania Republicans. He's at 65% support from the GOP in the current poll. Casey, on the other hand, is supported by 77% of Democrats."

In New Jersey, Menendez Holds Six Point Lead Sen. Robert Menendez (D-NJ) has opened a 40% to 34% lead over State Sen. Tom Kean, Jr. (R), with 20% still undecided, according to a new Quinnipiac poll.

The Quinnipiac poll has never shown a Republican ahead in any race, as far as I know.

Very serious question -- what's with you Pennsylvania republicans? Why aren't you supporting Santorum. We -- well perhaps it's just me --- love him.

He's exactly what we need more of.

Your link's messed up. And what's with the Republicans from Pennsylvania? Rick's a solid conservative from a state that went for Gore and Kerry, I don't think you can do better.

Chafee's really a Dem in disguise. He shouldn't even be allowed to have (R) after his name.

Chaffee -- i couldn't care less about. Who cares if he wins or loses? It doesn't make any difference.

It's Santorum we care about.

"Rick has always run from behind,IIRC, my guess is he'll be just fine."

I think he's in real trouble.

Casey has name recognition (Bob senior was a popular pro-life Dem governor) and little else known about him--and the Dems want to keep it that way, while waging a major smear campaign against Santorum.

I don't think I've seen a car yet with a Casey sticker on it that the other end of the bumper didn't have something negative in true Democratic tradition such as "Sanitize the Senate. Remove Santorum"

As usual, facts are irrelevant to Democrats. Perception is everything, and they are putting top priority on this race, as they always turn their biggest guns on any Republican they see as a threat as an effective leader.

And of course the Republicans traditionally manage to allow them to prevail.

This mid-term election, given that a Dem Congressional majority will mean certain nonstop impeachment hearings that will cause our economy to tank and result in Dems winning the White House in 2008, can arguably be said to be the most important in U.S. history.

It will mean the liberals will be able to complete the destruction of this nation as it was originally founded and clear the way for outside forces to prevail, since they can't govern without the free enterprise they hate providing the tax dollars for them to buy votes with.

This nation will be an unrecognizable third world hodgepodge not unlike some of the savage Islamic nations in a mere 20 years.

Chafee is about as Republican as Howard Dean...or Arnold Swartznegger.

Its run by a liberal Democrat.

I hope Chaffee loses to a Republican in the primary.

In New Jersey there is no substantial philosophical difference between Tom Kean Junior and Menendez. The main difference is the party label.

If Kean wins by some quirk, expect him to behave EXACLTY like McCain, Snowe, Chaffe, et al. He'ss stab Bush and the other Repubs in the back as sure as the sun will rise tomorrow.

By the way, I heard a joke on the radio today. Govenor Pataki thinks he can get nominated as a Republican candiadte for President!!

I do not believe in polls. Chafee has a poor record and should lose and I believe he will. I expect it will be the news of the day after the primary.

what's with you Pennsylvania republicans? Why aren't you supporting Santorum.

Rick's problems with conservatives began when along with George Bush, he supported liberal Arlen Specter in the primary against conservative Rep. Pat Toomey.

To compound that gaffe, Rick Santorum has a lifetime grade of F for border security and enforcement of laws against illegal immigration. He has improved his recent grade on this issue to a C, as judged at Americans for Better Immigration.

In short, Rick has abandoned his base on crucial issues. Today, many pro-life Republicans who would have been expected to vote for him will likely either stay home on election day, or vote for pro-life Bob Casey.

I intend to vote for Rick, but too many friends of mine ask "why bother?"

You are 100% correct. The worse news is that Specter the A-hole is threatening to shut down the funding for our deployed troops. We Pennsylvanians don't support that and we don't support Specter. Santorum did and he will probably pay for it.
