'Marketing of Evil' tops Amazon 'Current Events' chart

Controversial book banned by college profs skyrockets up best-seller lists

The book banned by the faculty of Ohio State University as "hate literature" and "homophobic tripe" is currently No. 1 on Amazon.com's "Current Events" best seller list.

"The Marketing of Evil: How Radicals, Elitists, and Pseudo-Experts Sell Us Corruption Disguised as Freedom," by WND Managing Editor David Kupelian, is at the center of a major controversy at OSU's Mansfield campus. Recently, the entire faculty voted to investigate librarian Scott Savage on allegations of "sexual harassment" and complaints that he made the campus "unsafe" and "threatening" – all for suggesting the school's freshman class read Kupelian's popular but controversial book.

Savage also suggested three other conservative best-sellers – "The Professors" by David Horowitz, "Eurabia: The Euro-Arab Axis" by Bat Ye'or and "It Takes a Family" by Sen. Rick Santorum. But it was Kupelian's book that caused several professors to file a formal complaint and launch an investigation of Savage for alleged sexual harassment, calling Kupelian "anti-gay" and the book "hate literature."

Released in August, "The Marketing of Evil" has become one of the nation's most talked-about books, widely praised by Dr. Laura, David Limbaugh, Michelle Malkin, D. James Kennedy and many others and garnering over 100 five-star reader reviews on Amazon.com. Although some 1-star Amazon reviews attack Kupelian in the same vein as the OSU professors, most readers sound a very different message, as reflected in the following reviews:

Well, I no longer feel safe knowing this is on the Amazon best seller list.

or are you arguing that homosexuals are not in the same category and that homophobia is not therefore a matter of discrimination

Quote from one of the gay nutty professors and the answer is YES.

The left must not have discovered this book yet. Usually any controversial book on Amazon gets knocked down to 3 stars as the 5-star "almost as good as the Bible" reviewers are balanced against the 1-star "Mein Kampf with a new cover" crowd. I got a kick out of one 1-star reviewer who did not seem to realize the self-contradictory silliness of his statement "There is NO universal truth".

I notice Barnes & Babel isn't mentioned as a place of purchase. GOOD

I'm sure most FR'ers know that B&N is so far out to the left that they'll never find their way back to sanity.

If they carry this book, it will probably be buried on the shelves behind the checkout counter and one will have to demand it to buy it.

I,for one, will never spend one thin dime at B&N - had quite a 'conversation' with them during last election over their prominent, trip over as you enter, table stacked full of only Bush-Bash books - while trying to find any Coulter, Hannity or other conservative books turned into having to demand their whereabouts - and there they were - behind the counters!

So the manager and I had a 'discussion' as I took photos - 'course, he didn't seem to appreciate my ID label (I was on a lunch break - delegate to our state convention)

I will NEVER give them a dime!

The same thing happened to me at my local B&N. As soon as you walk in the front door you were confronted by bash Bush books. When I asked where the books by conservative authors were - they had to pull them out from BEHIND a counter - where no one could see them. I told the manager that I would never spend another dime in his store. And I haven't.

Now is the time to take advantage of the one media outlet we all still have access too - and inform our local folk at the same time: Write a "letter to the editor" of your local papers and recommend this book!

You might even be able to get a local "parlor discussion" group of like-minded folk together that could serve as a watchdog and sound-the-alarm group to get out news that the MSM buries.

It's great to be in here and commiserate but we need also to be reaching our neighbors and FR's have the unique opportunity to plant the seeds all across the neighborhoods of this country. We can show them a thing or two about 'marketing!'

I get the assumption here that the freshman class can read. I think the reality here is that unless there is a DVD available of an HBO mini-series the "freshies" won't get the point.

I guess we're pretty lucky. The B&N at the Slatten Ranch shopping center in Antioch, CA, generally has these books. It's true that you are assaulted by the leftist, Dem-praising, Bush-bashing books as you walk in, but back in the Political and History section, adjacent the info kiosk, the books by Hannity, Coulter, etc., are there, in about an even balance I would have to say. If a book is too new, I can order it at the info kiosk, and the young clerks are respectful, and even receptive to information about the content. I get the books at my door in a few days, with my member discount. I could order them online, but I prefer to browse.

The other local B&N stores, Pleasant Hill and Walnut Creek, may be a different story. I don't bother with Borders or Waldenbook. The reality is, there are more sicko Dems cranking out hate books than there seem to be thoughtful conservative authors, perhaps because thoughtful books are harder to write and have a more limited audience.

Followup to my previous post. I called the Slatten Ranch store, and spoke to one of the clerks about the in-store availability of these four books. Kupelian's and Santorum's books are on hand at the store. All four are available online.

The clerk (who sounded conservative, by the way) agreed with the point in my second paragraph. She also says that Corporate makes decisions about how many of a book's publishing run they think they can sell in their stores; the rest would go to their warehouse, where you could order them online. I think that the Antioch store, being further away from the liberal core of the SF Bay Area, is more conservative. I would expect that the Vacaville or Fairfield stores would be similar. There will be a more conservative client base for those stores (Fairfield, CA, is home to Travis AFB, for instance), and this will probably be reflected in the way merchandise is stocked and displayed.

I don't know about the Vacaville B&N store, but the one in Fairfield does carry a fair supply of good books. However, the Bush Bashing books have the prime display sites, probably as per corporate guidelines. My wife has never been insulted when she buys a book with a gift certificate.

Our DIL has seen some improvement with the Antioch store after the last election when that part of the Contra Costra county voted for GW. She loves to go in that store and the one in Walnut Creek to needle and upset the clerks and managers and demanding that they stock conservative books.

Our DIL, her husband our oldest son and my wife are voracious readers and they end up with a lot of gift certificates at these left wing stores, so they go in to redeem them.

I gave up on these left wing owned bookstores back in the 1990s after being insulted when I tried by Rush's books, the Black Avenger's book and Dr John Lott's book. I order everything on line now. I used to send copies of my invoices to the local independent book stores and the a$$holes at the local Walden store. Now they are closed. I enjoyed going into the local Walden store in its final throes to laugh at the lesbian and homosexual haters/clerks/managers of America. They are like left wing newspaper people when they get laid off, not even capable of asking "Would you like Fries with that order!"

A book that presents the hidden agenda of left wing facists in our public school systems is a very good thing indeed. The Holy Bible opened my eyes to the deception behind facsim, his name in heaven is called Lucifer and the devil. O.S.U. is grounded is the self destructive agenda of the left wing facists, the end result being blood and more innocent blood.
