But still, nobody has answers with a clear answer : does alcool impairs a driver more than marijuana does? yes or no... nobody answered as clearly, so that means something to me, people can't talk objectively of a subject that would go against their fondamental beliefs, which belief is not necesseraly controled by themself...

Irresponsible article

Drugged Driving

While alcohol is the predominant substance found in fatal automobile crashes, marijuana is the second most frequently found substance in drivers. Alcohol and marijuana are also frequently found together, resulting in a dramatic decrease in driving performance and spike in impairment levels.

According to a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Study, a moderate dose of marijuana can impair driving performance. The study also found the effects of a low dose of marijuana combined with alcohol were markedly greater than for either drug alone. Driving performance was measured by reaction time, visual search frequency, and the ability to perceive and/or respond to changes in the velocity of other vehicles.

According to estimates derived from the U.S. Census Bureau and Monitoring the Future data, approximately 600,000 of the nearly 4 million U.S. high school seniors drive under the influence of marijuana. Approximately 38,000 seniors reported that they had crashed while driving under the influence of marijuana in 2001.

does alcool impairs a driver more than marijuana does?

Depends on the dosage. I expect that for any given amount of alcohol, there is some amount of marijuana that is equally driving-impairing; but I wouldn't be a bit surprised if the degree of driving impairment from 'typical' use of marijuana (if any) is considerably less than that for 'typical' use of alcohol.

The Department of Transportation has published two studies examining the impact of marijuana on driving performance. Marijuana - the most widely abused illegal drug - slows a driver's perception of time, space, and distance.

Marijuana

While many drivers believe that drugged driving is safer than drunk driving, in reality, marijuana can affect concentration, perception and reaction time up to 24 hours after it’s smoked says the federal director of drug policies, John Walters. That’s much, much longer than alcohol can affect behavior.

In a 1990 report, the National Transportation Safety Board studied 182 fatal truck accidents. It found that 12.5% of the accidents were caused by drivers using marijuana.

A New England Journal of Medicine report on drivers without alcohol in their systems who were stopped by police for reckless driving found that 45% had marijuana and 25% had cocaine in their systems.

Marijuana is not safe for truck drivers or those who share the road with them.

ok i see! you still believe what the DEA tells you...it is not a reliable source of information, for your own information, try to look more about independant study...the reason i am telling this is the DEA would be the 1st agency to get it's budget cutted down if marijuana wasn't that devilish...

"slows a driver's perception of time, space, and distance"
but at what level? sleep depravation can be a lot worse affecting those perceptions of time space and distance...plus from personnal experience, i don't see where marijuana did affected my perceptions of space and distance? you are not hallucinating under it's influence you know, you just don't see life or don't hink the same way...and not in an extreme manner...

"up to 24 hours after it’s smoked says the federal director of drug policies, John Walters. "

haha! yeah right! please don't pick your sources of information from only one place, again take information from independant studies, marijuana affects you a big maximum of 5 hrs (and this includes the new and unexperienced smokers) haha 24 hrs, that is why john walter doesn't have that much credibility, his lies are to obvious, even someone who tried pot but really hated the experience can tell he is full of sh...well you know the brown stuff!

"In a 1990 report, the National Transportation Safety Board studied 182 fatal truck accidents. It found that 12.5% of the accidents were caused by drivers using marijuana."

and the 87.5% were from alcool? only kidding!

"A New England Journal of Medicine report on drivers without alcohol in their systems who were stopped by police for reckless driving found that 45% had marijuana and 25% had cocaine in their systems."

do you have a link? that would be interesting to analyze that article...because again these rating are well above the majority of other articles i read...

but thanks for your post, it's good to go further down the hole!

Back in the day when I was known to smoke and drive, 30 mph seemed like 90 mph. I was no threat to anyone. It's been about 30 years and I understand they have some interesting flavors of pot these days. I should do another research sampling and get back to you, I suppose.

Oh come on! don't ruin away so easily! youare showing great weakness with that last argument...you seem to me more like an elephent scared by a mouse!! and by the way i used to smoke pot and drive...now i don't smoke at all, maybe i'll have a joint at my birthday, but that would be about it...

if you keep your head stuck in the sand of stereotypes, you will never get anywhere in life...

by the way the only accident i had, guess what, i was sober...and the only time my best friend had an accident, he was the designated driver...now i don't say drive under the influence, i say that accident can happen any time any where, and not caused necessarly because of your mind state...

so please for your own good, try to open your mind to something different, which doesn't mean dangerous...( and in case you misunderstood, i am not saying do drugs, but more don't criticeise things you don't or can't understand, try to learn from them instead, it is a lot more useful...)
